Mumbai: IIT Bombay professor Suryanarayana Doolla has been asked to proceed on leave amid the ongoing probe into the death of second-year BTech student Sahil Wakode.
The move comes as the institute has set up a 10-member committee to examine the circumstances surrounding Wakode’s death. The panel has been given one week to submit its report.

The Mumbai Crime Branch is conducting a separate investigation and is examining CCTV footage from the examination hall, including an interaction between Wakode and Doolla shortly before the student left the exam.
Doolla had earlier been removed from his administrative position as Dean of Administrative Affairs but continued as a faculty member.
Wakode’s family has levelled allegations of harassment and caste-based discrimination against institute officials, including Doolla. The allegations are under investigation and have not been established.
