Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modis proposed daylong fast against complete washout of Parliaments Budget session, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that one hoped that he would also fast over the latest custodial killing in Uttar Pradesh.
Unnao gang-rape case has snowballed into a full-blown controversy with the Supreme Court announcing that it will hear next week a plea for a CBI probe into the matter.
It has been alleged in the plea that the minor was abducted and raped by a BJP MLA from Uttar Pradesh and others in July 2017. The victim’s father died after he was taken to custody by police.
The victim has alleged that the Unnao district magistrate had confined her in a hotel room without providing water.
On the other hand, accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s wife claimed that he had isolated himself accused media of declaring his husband a rapist.
Police had on Tuesday arrested the MLA’s brother Atul Singh.

The Allahabad High Court also took suo motu cognisance of the matter and sought a detailed report on the case from the Yogi Adityanath government. The court is set to hear the case tomorrow
The Uttar Pradesh government has been on the backfoot ever since the Unnao rape case came to light and the father of the complainant died in police custody.
“The barbarism unleashed against a father seeking justice for his (rape survivor) daughter in Uttar Pradesh has shamed the humanity.We hope that the Prime Minister will also observe a fast very soon over atrocities against women, increasing lawlessness and anarchy under the BJP rule.,” the Congress president tweeted in Hindi.
Earlier on Monday, Rahul took a jibe at the Modi government's 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' campaign, tweeting: "Save the girl, get yourself killed. A young girl accuses a BJP MLA of rape. The police, instead of arresting the MLA, take the girl's father into custody. Immediately after that, he dies in police custody."
