Hit-and-run in India’s Mumbai: Woman killed as BMW rams bike in Worli, politician’s son blamed

A woman in the Indian city of Mumbai was killed on Sunday (July 7) after a car rammed the bike. A report by the news agency ANI citing police said that the woman was identified as 45-year-oldKaveri Nakhwa, a resident of Worli Koliwada.
The accident took place at Worli on Sunday at 5.30 am local time when the bike was passing in front of Atria Mall. The police said that the car involved in the crash was a BMW, adding the driver fled from the spot post the accident.
"The accident happened when the couple from the fishing community was returning home after buying fish. The husband managed to jump off the speeding BMW's bonnet. The woman injured in the accident died during treatment," the police said.
Investigation launched
An investigation was launched into the matter. The BMW belonged toRajesh Shah, deputy leader of the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra's Palghar district. According to the police, Shah's son Mihir, 24, and driver Rajendra Singh Bijawat were inside the BMW at the time of the accident.

Both Rajesh and Rajendra have been taken into custody while Mihir is still on the run. A report by NDTV on Sunday said that Mihir was driving the car and was drunk.
Action will be taken against guilty: CM Eknath Shinde
Addressing a press conference, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that the hit-and-run case was very unfortunate, adding, action would be taken against the guilty.
"I had a conversation with the police. Whoever is guilty, action will be taken against them...We treat everyone equally. Whatever happens will be legal...," Chief Minister Shinde said.
