A former IT professional in the Indian city of Bengaluru has been arrested for stealing 24 laptops worth over $11,994 (Rs 10 lakh), media reports said on Friday (Mar 29). The techie, a 26-year-old woman, stole the laptops from multiple paying guests (PG) accommodations across Bengaluru. She had moved to Bengaluru from Noida in search of employment, a report by India Today said.

She was arrested on Tuesday (March 26).

She had lost her job during the Covid pandemic. The report said that the woman then allegedly started stealinglaptops and gadgets from PGs and sell them in the black market in her home town Noida.

She would monitor the neighbouring rooms. When the occupants would move out of their rooms for a snack or tea break, she would steal their laptops and gadgets. After committing the crime, the 26-year-old woman would change the PG accommodation.

The matter came to light when a PG resident complained to the police that many laptops were missing.
