The Gujarat and Himachal election results show the country is ready for reform, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said after winning Gujarat.
Modi was speaking at BJP headquarters in Delhi after the win.
The BJP has reached the victory mark of 92 in Gujarat -- but is looking like it will struggle to reach the 100 mark
The BJP has also won Himachal, getting to the victory mark of 35.
The election results and "in this day and age, for a party to keep winning for so long," Modi said, "are historic".
"Recent elections results have proven that the country is ready for reform, is looking towards things that perform in a positive way and believes in transformation," he added.
"After 2014, there is hunger for development. Even if you do not like BJP, do not try to derail the progress being made towards development," he said.
He also added that "So many conspiracies were hatched in Gujarat by Congress, misinformation was being spread." But "People cannot bear if anyone makes fun of vikas (development)".
Development was the key theme of Modi's speech, with a few exceptions:
30 years back, poison of caste was spread so badly in Gujarat that it took workers like me 30 years to get rid of it. In last few months there were attempts again to sow seeds of casteism, but people rejected it,I congratulate them, but ppl must be alert: PM Narendra Modi pic.twitter.com/srlI5bsa3Y— ANI (@ANI) December 18, 2017
Taking of the Himachal elections, he said the results there "show that if you don't do development and are embroiled in all wrong acts then after five years people will not accept you."
And he thanked the people of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh for choosing the path of development.
