The CBI court on Thursday began hearing the matter of former finance minister P Chidambaram's bail plea at Rouse Avenue District Court.
Representing the probe agency CBI, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta sought 5-day custody of Chidambaram and told the court that Congress leader did not cooperate with the probe. The CBI court has reserved its order on CBI application of seeking five-day remand of Chidambaram.
"He (Chidambaram) was taking advantage of Delhi High Court’s protective cover. This is a classic case of money laundering," Mehta mentioned adding that Chidambaram is not providing the required documents for the investigation.
Chidamabaram told the CBI court that he has answered every question that was posed to him.
"Please look at the questions and answers. There are no questions that I have not answered, please read the transcript. They asked, if I have a bank account abroad, I said no, they asked if my son has an account abroad I said yes," P Chidambaram told the CBI court.

Arguing for Chidambaram, senior advocate and Congress leader Kapil Sibal said the accused in this case is Karti Chidambaram who was granted regular bail by the Delhi High Court in March 2018. "Others accused in the case also got bail. Peter and Indrani Mukerjea are on default bail," Sibal argued.
"This is the case which has nothing to do with evidence but with something else," Sibal argued before the court.
"Investigation is complete as a draft charge sheet is ready. The sanction was sought," Sibal stated adding that Foreign Investment Promotion Board approval is given by 6 government secretaries and none of them have been arrested.

"This is a case of documentary evidence. He (Chidambaram) has never skipped an interrogation," Sibal told the CBI court.
"Non-cooperation is if the probe agency calls me five times and I don’t go, non-cooperation is not giving the answer they like to hear. They called P Chidambaram once, and he went. Where is non-cooperation?" argued senior lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
