A day after actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth expressed his disappointment over staging the IPL match in Chennai over the Cauvery issue, members of Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TMK) began their protest outside the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Rajinikanth had said he was "embarrassed" over the IPL match being held in Chennai while the state was in the middle of the Cauvery stir.

The superstar had asserted that people should be more sensitive towards the plight of the farmers who were hit by severe water shortage in the state.

"If not then at least acknowledge the fight of the people of Tamil Nadu. Our team should wear a black band. Those who go for the match can also wear a black band."

Another actor-turned-politician Kamal Hassan who recently formed a political party Makkal Needhi Maiam(MNM) had also spoken out against Chennai holding IPL matches.

Political parties in the state have been calling for the setting up of the Cauvery Management Board to address the issue.

Tamil Nadu has moved a contempt plea in the Supreme Court, seeking action against the Centre for allegedly failing to form the Cauvery Management Board within six weeks as ordered by the court on February 16.

On Monday, the top court had rapped the Centre for not framing a water-sharing scheme for the Cauvery and ordered it to prove its "bona fides"by submitting a draft scheme by May 3.
