He made the remarks Monday evening at a boat race at Tripura's Rudrasagar Lake.

Deb said the ducks recycle water when they swim, thereby increasing oxygen levels. That, he added, helps fish populations grow.

Deb's theory was quickly put down by scientists. News reports Tuesday quoting them as saying Deb was quacking up the wrong tree.

This is not the first time Deb has put his foot in his mouth.

He has before this said we had the internet and satellites during the days of the Mahabharata.
