The situation has not changed much as the frothing continues even today.

The white discharge from the lake overflows into residential areas and roads, often disrupting the traffic.

The toxic foam has caused breathing problemsand irritation in the skin, reports said. The carcinogenic foam has also led to serious health hazards.

The white froth over the lake is majorly the result of a directdischarge of untreated domestic waste in it. Out of the total waste dumped into the lake, 90- 95 per cent accounts for domestic waste.

An IIT Bengaluru research stated that around 90 per cent of the lakes in Bengaluru were affected because of the " sustained inflow of untreated sewage and industrial effluents", a report said.
