"Right at the top let me not compare the two films a s the first has a massive heads up of cumulative nostalgia…. This sequel speaks of our times, the ( sadly) emerging irrelevance of serous journalism …the digital overdrive Mania that is eating into the beauty of print… the powerlessness of the artistically powerful forces at the hands of corporations… the need for consolidations over ideations… all that in a Comedy? Yes… that’s the solid strength of Part 2 it makes u think of the travesty of our times," he added.

Also Read: Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci shine bright with Hollywood Walk of Fame Honour

Johar also highlighted how the characters' journeys have changed over time.

About The Devil Wears Prada

Directed by David Frankel, the sequel revisits the world of Runway magazine nearly two decades after the original The Devil Wears Prada. Here's what we know Karan Johar praises the film After watching the film, Johar opened up about his long-standing admiration for the original, and how the sequel made him revisit those emotions. "Nostalgia is powerful…. It keeps the present hopeful … my memory of watching #devilwearsprada is embedded in my heart… I walked out more in love with Meryl Streep ( if that was possible ) and understanding the pursuits of Miranda Priestly .. even though she was a tough leader, even though she was aesthetically judgemental and raising eye brow elitist to a fault…. But I understood her for her chase to attain excellence and perfection…. I wondered how I would feel revisiting Andy, Nigel, Emily and Miranda…," he wrote. Charles and Camilla, who married in 2005, are wrapping up a state visit to the United States, a visit that is being seen as a chance for London and Washington to move past a difficult few months.

A new documentary series based on hours of previously unreleased recordings made by Diana, the late Princess of Wales, is in the works, producers announced Thursday. Diana: The Unheard Truth, set for release in 2027 -- 30 years after her death in a Paris car crash -- promises to tell the story of "the people's princess" in her own words. Using five hours of conversations between Diana and her close confidante, surgeon Dr. James Colthurst, the tapes formed the basis of Andrew Morton's explosive 1992 book Diana: Her True Story. "This revelatory three-part docuseries restores authorship of one of the most scrutinized lives in modern history," said a statement released Thursday by Love Monday TV, the production company behind the venture. It "will change public perception of Diana forever." "Through the tapes, we come to know a resilient, perceptive, and relatable young woman, finding herself in the brightest of global spotlights, and navigating the challenges with grace, self-awareness, and determination." Diana's role in Britain's storied monarchy is unparalleled. The sumptuous 1981 wedding between Diana and the future King Charles III was a global extravaganza of good will. But what followed quickly degenerated into a tabloid feeding frenzy as cracks appeared in the fairytale, with husband and wife seemingly seeking solace in the arms of others. Diana's shocking 1997 death in a Paris tunnel in a car speeding away from paparazzi sparked a public backlash in Britain that rocked the monarchy and the media. The tapes, say producers, are a reminder that things could have turned out differently. "We hear her infectious humor and twinkling laughter, as she reveals the truth about life inside the most famous family in the world," the statement said. "But most importantly we hear her dreams for a future that could have been; a new chapter in which Charles goes off into the sunset with (future queen) Camilla, leaving Diana free to carve her own path." Charles and Camilla, who married in 2005, are wrapping up a state visit to the United States, a visit that is being seen as a chance for London and Washington to move past a difficult few months. The documentary series will also incorporate the perspectives of Diana's inner circle, including advisers, close friends, her hairdresser, her bodyguard, and one-time royal press secretary Dickie Arbiter.

"To review for #Patriot is going to be difficult as the film's story is highly socially relevant and it's executed really well with top notch quality. All actors delivered absolute banger but for me #Fahad stood out. However, the second half of the film looses direction in Screenplay and Direction. Especially climax, and Mahesh failed to balance the stardom and character arc of Mohanlal which as a fan was disappointing. Not asking for the mass moments but the emotional connect could have been worked out a little more. I felt the movie could have been even elevated to an edge of the seat espionage thriller in the second half and it showed the potential in first half. This could have been a Bourne level movie, but it looses itself in it's hype. Overall it is a very good watch worthy movie in the theatres", wrote the third user.

Also Read: Mammootty and Mohanlal's Patriot teaser leave the internet gushing, Salman Khan too cheers for the two superstars

Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his great stories of leadership and battles are something that many of Indian are grown up listening to. And if not books, then Bollywood has created enough movies that have pictured the stories of Shivaji well in all of our minds. Adding more to the list is the film of Riteish Deshmukh's Raja Shivaji, and this one covers Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's one of the greatest victories against Afzal Khan. If you are still having trouble recalling, which you will have, then you might remember the image in the history books when Shivaji is killing a person, that person is Afzal Khan.

Directed and written by Riteish, the movie goes through its own lows and highs, with several inconsistencies. The depiction of historical figures comes with a lot of creative liberties, and because of this, the film succumbs to the heroic tone that it begins and ends with.

Also read: The Devil Wears Prada 2 review: A worthy sequel to a classic

For those who have watched the trailer, the movie feels like an extended version of it. People who are well-versed in history might find a few moments to enjoy, but for those who are only somewhat aware of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, you need to wait a lot, really a lot, to understand where the story is heading.

What works well, however, is the performance, which at several places is surely overdone.

Raja Shivaji: What's the story?

Shot well, Raja Shivaji begins in the 16th century, even before the birth of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The narrative opens at a time when the Maratha kingdom, under Shahaji (Sachin Khedekar), is caught between the Adilshahi, Nizamshahi, and the Mughal Empire. The family is constantly forced to shift their base on the orders of these ruling powers, especially under Adil Shah (Amole Gupte) and his wife Khadija (Vidya Balan), depending on whose side they are supporting.

Also read: Ek Din movie review: Junaid Khan, Sai Pallavi’s romance is sweet but predictable

With years of struggle, Shahaji, along with his wife Jijabai (Bhagyashree) and their two sons, Sambhaji and Shivaji, is forced to leave their home in Pune and move from place to place. Living under the control of these dynasties shapes and fills the two brothers with anger. Sambhaji and Shivaji grow up with a strong attitude and gradually learn how to stand up against the forces against them.

For Shivaji (Riteish Deshmukh) and Sambhaji (Abhishek Bachchan), the biggest challenge is Afzal Khan (Sanjay Dutt), the general of the Adilshahi dynasty. He is ruthless, someone who does not think twice before even killing a child.

With his vision of Swaraj and to take revenge for his brother's death and save his dynasty, Shivaji fights against Afzal Khan, around whom, the whole story revolves.

Still from Raj Shivaji

What works and what doesn't?

Deshmukh tells the story of Shivaji in a glorified light, focusing on one of the most defining episodes of his life. The film’s presentation is larger than life, with all attention centred on Shivaji’s character. Divided into chapters, much like Dhurandhar was, the first part feels stretched, with over-the-top moments, dialogues and fight sequences that take too long to establish the characters.

The second part begins with the momentum as the focus shifts entirely to Shivaji and his fight with Afzal Khan. This is where the film finally comes into focus, even for viewers who doen't know much about the history.

Given the emotional weight that Shivaji and films about this legendary figure carry, Riteish has clearly hit that mark. While the movie was shot in both Hindi and Marathi, it holds a special emotional core for the followers of Shivaji.

But if you set aside the historic figure's legacy and Riteish's performance, which comes across as over-the-top in one of the scenes, the film delivers a mixed experience. It engages in parts but falls short due to the over-dramatisation of the characters, especially the villains, which feel more cartoonish than real. I think this has become a trend in Bollywood. The first half is heavy on emotion and several dramatic high points. While the film holds interest in the second part.

Stylish, but lacks substance

While the film is technically strong, that’s also where it loses some of its realism. A period drama should connect emotionally through both story and presentation, but the heavy use of CGI and music may make the movie feel good and gripping, but it's also where it loses its soul. And here is where Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava maintained a good balance between the technical side and the emotional core.

Performance-wise, Riteish holds your attention with his committed performance. But surely, not his finest. He manages to convey his feeling that he had with the historical figure, even if the script lacks.

The supporting cast also contributes effectively. Sanjay Dutt's 2.0 version as a rowdy villain again impresses. Vidya Balan knows how to play with her emotions, and she, with her Began Jaan aura, has again given a win-win performance. Abhishek Bachchan did his best in the role of the warrior, but the character didn’t suit him.

Shot and made with pure and good feelings, Riteish's movie grips your attention in the second half. The ruthlessness, brutality and bloodshed are a lot and could be a little less. In the end, the movie has a cameo by Salman Khan, where you see him and Riteish as Sambhaji fighting, giving the feeling that I'm watching the climax of some action movie.

This movie demands patience, and if you have it, then you can enjoy it.

Directed and written by Riteish Deshmukh, the movie tells the heroic tale of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from his birth to his fight with Afzal Khan. Heavy on technical aspects, the movie is grand and stylish, with less substance.

Also read: The Devil Wears Prada 2 review: A worthy sequel to a classic For those who have watched the trailer, the movie feels like an extended version of it. Also read: Ek Din movie review: Junaid Khan, Sai Pallavi’s romance is sweet but predictable With years of struggle, Shahaji, along with his wife Jijabai (Bhagyashree) and their two sons, Sambhaji and Shivaji, is forced to leave their home in Pune and move from place to place.

Directed and written by Riteish Deshmukh, the movie tells the heroic tale of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from his birth to his fight with Afzal Khan. Heavy on technical aspects, the movie is grand and stylish, with less substance.

Raja Shivaji review: Riteish Deshmukh's film is stylish, lacks substance

One user wrote, "This is beautiful to see; it's this simple! Thanks for your solidarity." Worked with Andy on your movies too ! I did the keyframes when you first saw your suite as well as all the ants in the first Ant-Man! And the most popular keyframe that I created that they wrote in the script was when Ant-Man fed sugar water to one of the ants. I really loved working at Marvel from 2012 to 2021! I have known Andy way before Marvel and I must say that one of the artists i would think they would want to keep would be him. I really didn’t think they needed to dissolve the whole department. I am still in shock. I am so grateful, though, that I got to be part of this team.
An entire generation has grown up watching, loving and taking inspiration from The Devil Wears Prada. The film, released in 2006, went on to achieve cult status in subsequent years. And so, when the sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2, was announced, the news was welcomed with excitement and scepticism from ardent fans of the original. It is never easy to match up to a classic with sequels. The fact that the makers managed to bring back the majority of the original cast and crew - including the lead cast, director and writer- back on board for the sequel helped to keep the continuity. But the burden of expectation was huge right from the time the filming of The Devil Wears Prada 2 began, with social media flooding with BTS sequences from the film set. Some felt overexposure would kill the excitement way before the film even released, but instead, the images and some aggressive marketing before the film’s release have only piqued everyone’s curiosity about the film. The Devil Wears Prada 2

What’s the story of The Devil Wears Prada 2

Andy Sachs is now a well-known, award-winning journalist who writes human interest stories. An unexpected layoff and fiery speech post about corporates and profitability during an awards night by Andy goes viral. Meanwhile, Runway magazine has been firefighting after promoting a fake brand in its magazine. To regain their credibility, the owner of the magazine hires Andy back, this time as a features editor, to write ‘serious’ articles that can add more credibility to the fashion magazine. Of course, Miranda is not convinced that Andy is fit for the job, but in the two decades since the two worked together, a lot has changed. Miranda still has the sass, but now is more open to adapting to the changing times (she even hangs her own court). Andy finds herself in a familiar territory yet uncomfortable under Miranda’s (in)famous icy gaze. Nigel still remains an important figure at Runway, almost like a second in command to Miranda. Meanwhile, Emily has now moved to Dior as the communication head, who calls the shots about what should go and not go in the magazine as a primary advertiser.

The magazine is evidently struggling to stay relevant and sell at a time when digital media has slowly permeated the collective consciousness of humans. Will Andy be able to change Runway’s course and save her and others' jobs, while reinstating the magazine’s reputation, forms the rest of the story.

Also read: Best-dressed looks from The Devil Wears Prada 2 London premiere

What works

Writer Aline Brosh McKenna and director David Frankel throw in references from the original into the new film and merge them into the present scenario. Since the film has the original actors reprising their roles in the sequel, there is a sense of relatability for the viewers. Andy is now more confident, yet nervous around Miranda. Miranda is more conscious of what to say and what not to say, yet her sarcasm and sass remain intact. Nigel, too, remains brutal with his takes. And the actor too slip into their roles seamlessly, almost as if not a single day has gone by since the first film came out. Anne Hathaway is charming as Andy, someone you can walk up to and share your problems with. After the first film, one would have wanted Andy to evolve into this confident woman who is charming and strong-willed. Who is easily approachable but also someone who seeks validation secretly. And Andy is just that in part 2. Meryl Streep continues to play the steel, frosty editor to perfection.

The scenes involving the two ‘Emilys’ - Emily Blunt and Anne Hathaway- are such a joy to watch. They are limited, of course, but Blunt and Hathaway have an easy chemistry on screen, and it's always a delight to watch them perform together.

I do wish the two had more scenes together and as a trio along with Miranda.

Also read: Anne Hathaway was the 9th choice for The Devil Wears Prada? The behind-the-scenes history of the film ahead of its sequel

The Devil Wears Prada 2 very effectively talks about the changing times in the media. Gen Z is now part of the workforce, and millennials are finding it hard to stay in touch with the changing times. Boomers, meanwhile, are struggling with social media. The film brilliantly highlights the pains of keeping print and human interest stories relevant at a time when the average human's attention is limited to a reel on social media.

As a journalist, I had a lot to resonate with. The fleeting triumph of writing a meaningful, original piece—only to see it buried by a lack of clicks—is a struggle shared by both Andy and every journalist who aspires to be more than a content creator. The film beautifully highlights the imposing threat of AI, talks of the growing authority of influencers, the perennial urge of the management to cut costs, the hunger for more views and traffic on the website and keeping fashion writing and journalism alive amid viral gimmicks.

Look out for the cameos, including that of Lady Gaga's- some very prominent names from the world of fashion, casually stroll around across the screen adding more heft to the star studded film.

What does not work

While the film gives an inside view of how media houses are functioning, adapting and making desperate attempts to stay relevant in today’s time, it's a theme that perhaps may not resonate with all. As a journalist, I could relate to a lot of aspects, but the film in totality may not leave a defining impact on the audience at large.

Andy's romance track with Peter (Patrick Brammall) seems unnecessary to the plot. Justin Theroux, as the maverick billionaire, seems too loud in the world of couture and almost like a caricature.

The film is also more in-depth and goes easy on humour. Much like Miranda, the makers are conscious of what is politically correct and what’s not.

The plot too isn’t very ‘groundbreaking’, and the narrative too moves ‘at a glacial pace’ - at least in the first twenty minutes.

Final verdict

Despite the flaws, The Devil Wears Prada 2 works primarily because of its actors. They, once again, make you privy to the world of fashion, media and the complexities that come along. Of course, the first part was fresh and one of a kind and hence iconic. Expectations have doubled up since then, and perhaps that’s why the sequel isn’t as fun as one would think it to be. Yet, it manages to strike a chord, for it adapts to present times and gives a fresh perspective into the world of publishing.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 looks beyond fashion and offers a nostalgic yet grounded look at how much the media landscape has shifted in the two decades since the original. The film still has the sass courtesy Merly Streep and charm, thanks to Anne Hathaway.
