As Sanju continues to dominate the domestic box office with staggering collections since its release, more factions come out to speak against the film and portrayal of Sanjay Dutt as someone who has been ‘misunderstood’ while all he did was make ‘bad decisions’ throughout his life. The most recent being that of a magazine that is reportedly affiliated to the RSS -- claiming that the makers have “glorified” a criminal like Sanjay Dutt.
Commenting on this growing sentiment of some people, Sanjay Dutt finally opened up and rubbished all such claims. Also read: Sanjay Dutt's sister could not 'connect' to Paresh Rawal and Manisha Koirala in 'Sanju'
Coming out to support his friend and filmmaker of Sanju, Rajkumar Hirani, Sanjay Dutt questioned as to why a director would spend as much as Rs 30-40 crore just to whitewash someone’s image. He was quoted telling in an interview, “I don’t think anyone would spend Rs 30-40 crore to change his image. That is too much of an amount. I have told the truth and the truth has been accepted by India, and the box office collection shows that.”
Having re-lived his troubled times with the film, Sanjay said, “It was difficult to relive that. I was trying to hold back my emotions in the theatre. It is difficult to relive your life. After the film ended, I just broke down. I just couldn’t believe it. Ranbir was much much better than the real Sanju.” Also read: After watching 'Sanju', real-life Kamli writes an emotional note for Sanjay Dutt
