Samantha hits back at doctor who called her ‘illiterate’ over her nebuliser post

An online debate has been triggered between actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Dr Cyriac Abby Philips, who bashed the actress for recommending a hydrogen peroxide nebulisation to her millions of followers.

After the doctor slammed the actress by calling her “health and science illiterate” for recommending the harmful medical practice, Samantha issued her clarification.

Taking to her Instagram, Samantha shared a lengthy post defending her treatment, which has been advised toher by highly qualified professionals.

Saying that she's not naive enough to strongly advocate a treatment,she wrote, “Over the last couple of years, I’ve had to take many different types of medicines. I’ve tried everything I was strongly advised to take. As advised by highly qualified professionals and after doing as much self research as is possible for a lay person like me.”

Without naming the doctor, the actress slammed his words and said, "A certain gentleman has attacked my post and my intentions with rather strong words. Said gentleman is a Doctor too. I have no doubt that he knows more than I do. And I am quite sure his intentions were noble. It would have been kind and compassionate of him had he not been so provocative with his words. Especially the bit where he suggests I should be thrown in prison. Never mind.''

"We cannot just give up when medicines aren't working. I certainly wasn't ready to give up... Coming back to the topic of the said gentleman Doctor, it would have been nice had he politely invited my Doctor, whom I have tagged in my post, rather than go after me. I would have loved to have learnt from that debate and discussion between two highly qualified professionals," she wrote in her post.

Concluding her post, The Family Man 2 star said, “End of the day, we all depend on educated doctors to guide us. This treatment was suggested to me by a highly qualified doctor who is an MD, who has served DRDO for 25 years. He, after all his education in conventional medicine, chose to advocate an alternate therapy.”

A few days back, Samantha, who was diagnosed with myositis, an autoimmune condition in 2022, shared an Instagram story showing her doing a nebulisation.

Sharing the photo, the actresswrote, “Before taking medication for a common viral, consider trying an alternative approach. One option is to nebulise with a mixture of Hydrogen peroxide and distilled water. Works like magic. Avoid unnecessary use of pills.''

Her post caught the attention of Dr Cyriac Abby Philips, who bashed the actress through his social media handle.

Sharing Samantha's post on her X, he called Samantha ''health and science illiterate'' over her IG post in which, she recommended her followers to inhale hydrogen-peroxide to treat respiratory viral infections.
