Panchayat actress Sunita Rajwar who is currently in Cannes to represent her film Santosh in the Un Certain Regard section, spoke about the conditions in which supporting artists are made to perform in comparison to lead actors on a film set. She revealed shocking details of the discrimination that supporting actors have to deal with.

Sunita spoke to Brut India and said, "Lead actors are given the call time as per their convenience," and that how they are treated is “humiliating." So much so that it broke her down some years ago and she took a break from acting for two years.

It's humiliating, says Sunita Rajwar

Sunita added that when given small roles, actors are not respected and "treated like animals", which is heartbreaking. She detailed the gaping difference between what is offered to a lead actor vs a small part actor and said, "If you know you are not shooting with a particular artiste then call them later. What’s the need to make them sit? It’s like you are trying to shoot others down.”

"Lead actors are pampered. Their room will be neat, they will have a fridge, and microwave. Whereas others like us, we will have a small dingy room. They will make 3-4 people sit. The roof is falling. No clean bathroom. Your bedsheet will be dirty. Seeing all this, I always felt so bad."

Sunita Rajwar is best known for playing Kranti Devi in Panchayat and Bittu Ki Mummy in Gullak. She has been in the industry for many years and has played some remarkable roles in both the space of television and OTT. She will next be seen in Panchayat season 3, a TV series created by The Viral Fever (TVF) for Amazon Prime Video.

Panchayat season 3 will drop on May 28.
