India born Priya Serrao has won the Miss Universe Australia title for 2019. She will now represent Australia in the Miss Universe competition later this year.

She contested for the coveted title along with 26 other women from across the country in Melbourne. 

After being crowned Miss Universe  Australia, Priya said, “I just want to see more diversity and the fact someone that looks like me and has my background is here is amazing.”

She further said, “I have never entered a pageant before and I have never done a modelling before… So this was a huge surprise. I wanted to be a part of the experience.”

Priya shared photos of her win on social media and wrote, “I still can’t believe everything that’s happened in the last 24 hours. A huge thank you for all your support so far. I can’t wait to get started!”

Priya is a law graduate who currently works in the Department of Jobs, Precincts and regions in Melbourne. She was born in India and her family migrated to Australia from the Middle East. The family stayed in Oman then moved to Dubai before settling in Australia.  

The top three at the pageant were rounded by Western Australia’s Bella Kasimba and Victorian Marijana Radmanovic placed at second and third.
