Emmy and Grammy award-winning singer Lizzo has shocked fans with an announcement on Instagram, indicating her departure from the entertainment industry. The singer, known for hits like "Truth Hurts" and "Good as Hell," expressed frustration with being constantly criticised and ridiculed, both online and in her personal life.
In her Instagram post, Lizzo wrote, "I'm getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet. All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I'm starting to feel like the world doesn't want me in it."
The 35-year-old artist, whose legal name is Melissa Jefferson, has been a prominent figure in the body positivity movement but has also faced significant backlash and fat-shaming comments. The singer has also faced career setbacks due tosome legal controversies.She has been accused of and sued by her dancers for alleged sexual harassment, racial discrimination and fostering a hostile work environment.
She highlighted the impact of online negativity, stating, "I'm constantly up against lies being told about me for clout and views… being the butt of the joke every single time because of how I look… my character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn't sign up for this."
