
After Barbie, actress Margot Robbie is set to work on amovie based on the game Monopoly. The Oscar-nominated actress is on board as a producer and will be backing the project with her production company LuckyChap.
The big announcement was made at CinemaCon. Robbie along with her production company partners Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara will be backing the live-action feature film based on the popular board game.
Apart from LuckyChap, Monopoly backers Hasbro Entertainment and Lionsgate will be the producers of the project.
As per Variety, ''Lionsgate extended its development rights to the board game with its purchase of eOne, which was completed in December 2023.''
However, it's not clear how Robbie and hercompany will make a story based on the Monopoly world.Lionsgate's film chair Adam Fogelson said at the Cinemacon session that, LuckyChap has “a clear point of view” on the upcomingmovie.
''I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap. They are exceptional producers who choose their projects with great thought and care, and join Monopoly with a clear point of view,'' Fogelson said.
In recent years, LuckyChap has backed movies like I, Tonya, and Promising Young Woman among others. The most recent blockbuster that LuckyChap produced was the blockbuster movie Barbie.
Directed by Greta Gerwig, the movie based on the iconic Mattel dollearned $1.4 billion globally.
The multiplayer board game is about buying, selling and renting properties.Created in the 1900s by Lizzie Magie, the board game was once known as The Landlord's Game.
