Eddie Murphy reveals Shrek 5 will come soon, also Donkey spinoff

Great news for fans of Shrek as Eddie Murphy dropped some exciting news about his character from the film. Eddie revealed he’s already recorded the first act of Shrek 5, so the DreamWorks Animation film is already in motion. The production house hasn’t announced the film as of yet.

Eddie revealed that another film from the franchise is in the works – a Donkey spinoff.

On the possible release date of Shrek 5, Eddie Murphy said, “I think it’s coming out in 2025”.

Animated film sequels have been a hit with the audience in the past

The news comes amid a resurgence of popular animated franchises. Currently running in theatres, Inside Out 2 has proven to be a crowd-puller. Also, 2022’s Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was a great hit. The two films collectively grossed $724.3 millionand close to a half billion dollars worldwide.

Eddie Murphy was on the press tour for Netflix’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley when he spoke about Shrek to Collider. He said, “We started doing Shrek 4 or [Shrek] 5 months ago. I did this, I recorded the first act, and we’ll be doing it this year, we’ll finish it up. Shrek is coming out, and Donkey’s gonna have his own movie. We’re gonna do Donkey as well. So we’re gonna do a Shrek, and we’re doing a Donkey [movie].”

Will rest of the original cast reprise their roles in new Shrek film?

We are unaware if the other cast members from the Shrek universe - Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz - will reprise their roles.
