Former United States President and Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump named Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate on Monday (Jul 15). Vance has been serving as a US Senator since 2023. He is also married to Indian-American Usha Chilukuri Vance, an accomplished lawyer.
Much before he became a Senator, Vance had published a memoir Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis which was later turned into a film. The 2016 book was adapted into a film with the same name in 2020 and was helmed by Ron Howard.
The film starred Gabriel Basso, Amy Adams, Glenn Close, Freida Pinto and Haley Bennett.
Close even earned an Academy Award nomination for her role as Vance's 'Mamaw.'
So, much before his vice presidential candidature, Vance's life was portrayed on screen by some prominent names in Hollywood.
Gabriel Basso as JD Vance
Basso took on the role as Vance in the Netflix film. Basso portrayed Vance's life as a Yale law student who receives an urgent phone call, requiring him to return to his hometown in Ohio and face "three generations of family history and his own future," as per IMDb.
Amy Adams as Bev
Amy Adams took on the role as Beverly "Bev" Vance, JD's mother, in the Netflix film. Bev was a struggling mother of two who battled addiction.
Glenn Close as Mamaw
Glenn Close took on the role as Bev's mother, Vance's "Mamaw," or grandmother who played a major role in his upbringing.
Haley Bennett asLindsay Vance
Haley Bennett took on the role as Lindsay Vance, JD's sister, in the film. Bev gave birth to Vance's older sister just a few weeks after graduating from high school.
Freida Pinto asUsha
Indian actress Freida Pinto appeared as Vance's wife, Usha Chilukuri Vance in the film. According to People magazine, Usha and JD met while attending Yale Law together and wed the year after they graduated in 2014. The couple has three children: two sons, Ewan and Vivek, and a daughter, Mirabel.
