Daniel Day-Lewis to make a comeback, star in son’s film Anemone

Daniel Day-Lewis won Oscar for My Left Foot: The Story Of Christy Brown

Daniel Day-Lewis is ending his seven-year hiatus from acting to star in Anemone,a film directed by his son, Ronan Day-Lewis. This marks Ronan's directorial debut and a collaborative effort between father and son, who co-wrote the screenplay.

Focus Features and Plan B announced the project on Tuesday (Oct1). The cast includes Daniel Day-Lewis alongside Sean Bean and Samantha Morton.

Earlier the same day, paparazzi spotted Daniel Day-Lewis and Sean Bean riding a motorcycle in Manchester, England, fueling speculation about the acclaimed actor's return to the screen.

This comeback is surprising since Day-Lewis, now 67, had previously declared his retirement from acting after his role in Paul Thomas Anderson's 2017 film Phantom Thread.

“All my life, I’ve mouthed off about how I should stop acting, and I don’t know why it was different this time, but the impulse to quit took root in me, and that became a compulsion,” he toldW Magazinein 2017. “It was something I had to do.”

Since he announced his retirement, Daniel Day-Lewis has rarely been seen in public. However, he made an unexpected appearance at the National Board of Review Awards in January to present an award to Martin Scorsese, who had previously directed him in Gangs of New York (2002) and The Age of Innocence(1993).

Anemone, which is currently in production, is said to delve into "the complex dynamics of father-son relationships, sibling bonds, and family ties."

At 26, Ronan Day-Lewis established himself as a painter, having showcased his work in New York. Coincidentally, his first international solo exhibition is set to open in Hong Kong on the same day as the film announcement.

The phrase "Daniel Day-Lewis, madness in his method" appears to be a playful reference to the actor's known commitment to method acting, though it's not fully clearif this is a tagline for the film or simply a commentary on his acting style.
