Cuban reggaeton artist El Taiger is in critical condition after getting shot in the head in Miami on Thursday (October 3). The Miami Police Department shared details about the horrific shooting during a press conference on Friday.
Police officers responded to a call just after 7 a.m. and found the musician inside a black Mercedes SUV at NW 17th St. and 10th Ave. He was in the third row of the vehicle and was pulled out of the trunk by first responders. El Taiger was quickly rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where he underwent surgery. He is currently on life support, according to CBS News Miami.
As of Friday morning, El Taiger remains in critical condition. A representative for the artist, Carlos Alfaro, told NBC 6 that the singer suffered severe brain damage.
Miami Police spokesperson Mike Vega said it’s still unclear if the wound was self-inflicted or if someone else shot him. Vega also mentioned that there was no sign that the shot was fired inside the car, suggesting the incident happened elsewhere before the vehicle was found. "Someone brought him here, left him, and left on foot," Vega said.
El Taiger’s manager, Macel Reinosa, told CBS News Miami that the team does not believe the singer attempted suicide, based on the position of the bullet. He added that there is a person of interest in the case, someone who knows El Taiger and who allegedly called 9-1-1.
Police are still gathering evidence and have not identified any suspects or publicly named the owner of the SUV. Investigators are interviewing a person of interest, but no arrests have been made.
