They breathe life into the slightly preachy and predictable plot with humour and genuine emotions. While Bollywood actors like Priyanka Chopra, Shah Rukh Khan, and Kalki Koechlin have played especially abled characters in the past, no one has brought authenticity to these characters as much as these new actors have. Full marks to the makers, for casting them instead of trying regular, known faces in these roles. Sitaare Zameen Par shines because of this bunch of actors,” wrote Sen in her review.

The incident took place in the Meghani area, five minutes after take-off. Several celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma, and Ranveer Singh extended their prayers and condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy. Actor and comedian Vir Das, however, is facing backlash for his comments in regard to the issue and even deleted the tweet he had replied to the user, which has now gone viral.

Why Vir Das is facing the ire of netizens for his comments on the recent Air India crash?

Recently, Vir Das took his official X handle and wrote, "I flew Air India home from London. It was all great. The crew, happy to report, still the kindest in the sky". To this, many taunted him by asking if he was getting free tickets for complimentary meals every time. But, one user wrote, "The only thing I have to say to whoever came up with this lame PR unit at @airindia. This is just sad, you're embarrassing yourselves at this point". To this, Vir Das, replied, which has now been deleted, "I should clarify. I support the airline because I have a very biased history with them. My grandfather worked at Air India. It is an airline with problems I know".

Also read: Ahmedabad plane crash: Music director goes missing, wife's desperate search continues

He further wrote, "I have flown every circuit and every seat class through my career.
This is not the first time, he has shown support for the airline. Post-crash, Vir Das had shared a tweet supporting Air India. He wrote, “The plane burst into flames after piercing through a medical college mess, where young doctors were having their meals. It is not an airline without problems but without fail, I know them to be the best crew in the sky. Time will tell what happened on this tragic flight. Aamir Khan films that were allegedly remakes - Sitaare Zameen Par, Ghajini and more

From Sitaare Zameen Par to Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, here's the list of Aamir Khan's films that were allegedly remakes.

Being an avid fan of murder mysteries, one of the best things about this genre is how well the films unfold, making the movie even more fun and gripping. While delving into a crime-infused serious whodunit is another kind of thrill, sometimes watching a murder mystery with a bit of humour isn’t a bad idea, especially during a lazy weekend. A recent addition to this genre is Diljit Dosanjh's Detective Sherdil, an Indian version of Knives Out. Ever since the Hollywood film was released, several desi versions have come out, none as sharp as the original. However, I must say, having watched this film a week after Housefull 5, Dosanjh's film is definitely a better copy.

Directed by Ravi Chhabriya, the movie brings an entertaining vibe, well-presented cast and a quirky background score, but does all this make this goofy murder mystery a gripping whodunit? I'm sceptical.

What is Detective Sherdil about?

The movie starts with the introduction of Dosanjh as Sherdil, one of the best detectives of Budapest, who celebrates the closing of every case with an Instagram reel. Just as he's about to enjoy a hard-earned vacation, a new case is ready - the murder of a billionaire, Pankaj Bhatti (Boman Irani), who has been gunned down. Detective Sherdil review: Diljit Dosanjh's film is a cheeky Knives Out copy for casual viewing

While things might seem easy at first, with two culprits missing, Sherdil knows how to find the real killer or the killers. Bhatti is a self-made billionaire with a seemingly good-looking family - his wife Rajeshwari (Ratna Pathak Shah), son Angad (Sumeet Vyas), and a deaf and dumb daughter, Shanti (Banita Sandhu), who Bhatti loves the most. There is also a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Sarah Barlondo), and Bhatti's brother-in-law, Bodhi Mama (Chunky Panday), who are also a part of the family, but Bodhi Mama lives in the garden. While what appears to be a perfect family, it's all dysfunctional, and things turn worse when Bhatti leaves nothing to his family in his will, giving 10% to his dog and a huge chunk to his dead accountant Purvak (Arjun Tanwar), who also happens to be Shanti's boyfriend. While the prime suspects are the missing accountant and the driver, Sherdil knows that there's a lot more when one scratches the surface. How he and his team find out the killer makes the plot of rest of the plot. Detective Sherdil review: Diljit Dosanjh's film is a cheeky, desi version of Knives Out for casual viewing

Aamir Khan is back with his trademark, quintessential feel-good movie. Over the years, the actor has carved out a niche in Indian cinema for making entertaining films that convey important social messages. Sitaare Zameen Par review: Heartwarming and imperfect, Aamir Khan the producer triumphs over the actor

Sitaare Zameen Par's premiere was a star-studded affair. Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan, and Salman Khan were also seen at the special screening of Aamir Khan's latest released film. The event was held ahead of the film's release, which drew several big names from the industry. However, one video from the event has caught the attention of eagle-eyes netizens is when a man tried to breach Salman Khan's security.

Aamir Khan and Gauri Spratt hold hands, steal the spotlight at Sitaare Zameen Par screening

Actor Aamir Khan is set to return to the big screen with his movie Sitaare Zameen Par. A day before its release, Khan hosted a special screening in Mumbai. For the event, Aamir appeared with his girlfriend, Gauri Spratt. The couple walked the red carpet hand in hand, joined by Aamir’s youngest son, Azad Rao Khan. This marked Aamir and Gauri’s first public appearance together at an event. With broad smiles, Aamir, Gauri, and Azad posed for the paparazzi. Aamir wore an off-white sherwani with intricate embroidery. He paired it with churidar pants and brown boots. Gauri looked elegant in a turquoise green saree with golden embroidery, paired with a green blouse and a golden necklace. She kept her makeup subtle for the occasion. Azad, looking smart, wore a dark blue suit with a white shirt and black shoes as he posed alongside his father and Gauri. Aamir’s daughter, Ira Khan, also attended the premiere with her husband, Nupur Shikhare.

Aamir first introduced Gauri to the media on his 60th birthday in March. Since then, the couple has been spotted together at multiple events. Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao.

I was suffering from impostor syndrome for a long time at the beginning. Working with Aamir was like climbing Mount Everest for me. I was really scared. Yeah, because I'm not used to that terrain. Little did I know that it would happen so soon.

When this story was offered to me, what at the time it was untitled. And at that time, what struck me and my writer Divy Nidhi Sharma, was the enormous opportunity for fun in this movie. It was an incredible story that came to us, and it had all the exciting ingredients to make a mainstream film, but with a difference. We had had an opportunity to speak about a lot of things, and we had this opportunity to cast 100 people of neurodivergent. I just felt that the story was so powerful, and I remember taking it to Amir, sir, and when he said, Yes, that's when things got really exciting and anxious for me. I felt, ‘Oh God, maybe Amir sir is making a big mistake by making me the director. Will I be able to do this?’ I was all nervous until I met him.

WION: Were Aamir and Genelia both the first choices for their respective roles?

RSP: So sometimes a cast just leaps at your face. Amir Sir was the 1st person who came to my mind for the film. Once he came on board, we started the casting process, and we were discussing which other actors I'd like to work with. And so, in one of those discussions, Aamir Sir said, ‘Hey, you know what? So we were about to test some actors right? I just met Ritesh and Genelia after a long time. And do you want to meet her? I mean, what do you feel?’ I said, sir actually, she might be the perfect person for this character, and when you see the movie you know there's so much in the movie that her character brings to the forefront. But again, we did our readings. We did our test shoot with Aamir and Genelia before finalizing.

Aamir and Genelia

WION: Your first Hindi film, Shub Mangal Savdhan, was such a sweet film. But I observe a pattern. Both Shubh Mangal and Sitaare are message-driven films. Do you see cinema as a medium for societal change?

RSP: Not so much societal change, but I feel a human conversation. I'm a person who loves conversations, and I am quite appalled by the fact that growing up in a middle-class household, I was the guy saying all the awkward stuff. And then everyone is grown up. I used to be the kid who called out hypocrisy, and I used to just speak my mind and get in a lot of trouble because of that. I was attracted to cinema and books that asked questions that others were afraid of asking. When it came to cinema, I had to define who I am by making my 1st film Kalyana Samayal Saadham right. It came organically to me. I think my personality and everything came together in the film.

And the fact that people are saying ‘Oh, my God! How can you say the story?’ That is exciting. So Sitaare Zameen Par is yet another conversation that makes people uncomfortable. So maybe I should have it, you know. Also I think humor is a great kind of softener. A lot of conversations, when you have it through characters and through humor, people accept it. More than societal change, my cinema enables human conversations. It's about relationships for me, you know. Society is, after all, an expansion of the individual, isn't it?

WION: Sitaare Zameen Par is launching 10 very unique actors in the film industry. While it's fascinating that you have cast differently abled people in those roles, does it come with certain challenges?

RSP: Everything is challenging. Human relationships are challenging. But that is what is exciting for me. I don't see it as a challenge. I see it as an opportunity to do something fun and do something new. Because theoretically, one knows that it is possible. Otherwise, one doesn't embark on the journey.

I think more than working with neurodivergent actors, the casting process was more challenging. I knew that once we get these actors, we have processes, workshops and all to get there right. But we need to be able to find these actors, and for that, I would say kudos to my producer, Mr. Amir Khan, because he was the one who gave me the confidence to audition actors. I was helped along the way by amazing casting Director Tess Joseph, and then Anmol also came along as a casting director. So we reached out to so many organizations, we did 2,500 plus intros and auditions, and from there we kind of got these amazing actors right. I was very confident about the quality, but we need quantity, too.

WION: What's been the biggest learning for you while making Sitaare Zameen Par?

RSP: That dreams can come true because I never in my wildest dreams imagined I'd sit next to Mr. Amir Khan, let alone work with him, let alone direct him. If you do things from your heart, and maybe the universe will indeed conspire to make it happen. The biggest learning is to listen to the voice of intuition, which is always a whisper.

WION: Aamir Khan is known to be a perfectionist. What is it like to have Amir Khan on the set, even when he's not facing the camera? Does he give input? Or he's more of a director's actor. He follows instructions?

RSP: He's a director's delight. So he is a person who completely submits to the film, to the script, and is very respectful of protocol. He's very respectful towards any suggestion he gives any insights he has. There's not one input he will ever give you that is about himself as an actor; it is more about the film. He's very selfless. He is just phenomenal to work with. Forget Aamir, my Sitaares gave me suggestions all the time!
