Laapataa Ladies screened at Supreme Court, Kiran Rao says she's 'over the moon'

Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies is one of the most heartwarming Bollywood movies. Released on March 1, 2024, the movie earned outstanding an response from the audience and critics alike. Months after the release, a special movie screening was organised at the Supreme Court of India.

On Friday (Aug 9), the movie was screened at the apex court as part of a gender sensitisation programme in the presence of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. Producer Aamir Khan and director Kiran Rao were present at the event.

A day after the screening was held, Director Rao shared photos from the screening. Expressing gratitude, shewrote in the caption:''We had the unbelievable honour of screening our film Laapataa Ladies at the Supreme Court yesterday. As is visible in these pictures, I am over the moon! Deeply grateful to our absolutely brilliant CJI DY Chandrachud, his wonderful partner Ms Kalpana Das, and the whole team of the CJI. It is an experience I will personally always hold dear, and on behalf of my entire cast and crew, I am so thankful for this honour. ✨''

The screening was held to commemorate the 75th year of the Supreme Court. It took place in the auditorium of the Supreme Court's administrative building complex. Not only judges, but their spouses and registry officials were also present at the screening.
On Friday, photos of Aamir sitting in the front row of the court and watching the court’s proceedings wentviral.
After the screening, the CJI said, “I invited both of them to come and visit the court and see the courtroom. So when Aamir Khan came to the court I said, ‘I don’t want to cause a stampede in the court’, but I welcomed Aamir Khan in the midst.”
