One of Bollywood's most iconic war films, Border is going to be back with a sequel. Actor Sunny Deol announced Border 2 on Thursday as he shared the film's announcement with a video on social media. Border 2 is a sequel to JP Dutta's 1997 film Border which was based on the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war. Border had released on June 13, 1997 and 27 years on, the makers have announced a sequel.

In the video, he says, "27 saal pehle ek fauji ne vada kiya tha ki vo vapas aayega. Ussi vaade ko poora karne, hindustan ki mitti ko apna salaam kehne, aa raha hai (Twenty-seven years ago, a soldier made a promise that he would return. To fulfill that promise, to salute the soil of India, he is coming)."

The announcement video describes Border 2 as "India's biggest war film." Roopkumar Rathod and Sonu Nigam's hit song Sandese Aaate Hain - which featured in the original film- plays in the background of the video.

Border 2 will be directed by Anurag Singh. He has earlier directed films like Dil Bole Hadippa!, Jatt & Juliet, Punjab 1984, and Kesari. The makers are yet to announce the rest of the cast of the film.

About Border

JP Dutta's war drama was released in 1997 and was set during the Indo-PakistanWar of 1971.The film was a multi-starrer and features actors Sunny Deol, Suneil Shetty, Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, and Puneet Issar, among others. Deol essayed the role of Major Kuldeep Singh in the first film.

Earlier on Thursday, Jackie Shroff celebrated the 27th anniversary of Border as he shared a video clip from the film. He portrayed the role of Wing Commander Andy Bajwa in the movie.

Border 2 will be produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta.
