Barbie director Greta Gerwig to be honoured with 2024 Will Rogers' Pioneer of the Year award

Greta Gerwig is all set to add another golden feather to her already decorated hat. The Barbie director will be receiving the Pioneer of the Year award by the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation (WRMPPF) at the Beverly Hilton.
In a ceremony scheduled for September 25, Greta will be honoured for her contribution to the motion picture industry, her exceptional leadership and service to the community.
Past recipients of the award include Erik Lomis, Elizabeth Banks, Tom Cruise, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, Jim Gianopulos, Kathleen Kennedy, Mike Campbell, and Jeff Blake among others.
“Greta Gerwig is a dynamic filmmaker with extraordinary vision who entertains and inspires audiences everywhere,” said Jeff Goldstein, President of Warner Bros. Domestic Distribution and Co-Chairman, Pioneer of the Year Dinner, according to Deadline.
“The Will Rogers Pioneers Assistance Fund is proud to celebrate Greta’s achievements and present her with the 2024 Pioneer of the Year Award,” added Kyle Davies, President of Distribution at Bleecker Street Media and Chairman, the Pioneers Assistance Fund Committee.
All proceeds from the event will go to Pioneers Assistance Fund, which "is a program with five levels of assistance offered to industry veterans in need. Assistance can range from a monthly stipend to medical rehabilitation, equipment aid, emergency grants or vocational retraining," according to their website.

Greta Gerwig's achievements
Greta has helmed three major projects: Lady Bird, Little Women, and Barbie, which each earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture. For her film Lady Bird, she also received Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. For Little Women and Barbie, she also received Oscar nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay.
We all witnessed the craze surrounding Barbie last year. It became the first film from a solo female director to gross more than $1 Billion worldwide. It is also the highest-grossing film in Warner Bros history.
As an actress, Greta has delivered several breakthrough performances in films like Greenberg, Frances Ha, and White Noise.
