Defending champions Australia will lock horns with last edition's finalists South Africa in the first semifinal of the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup, on Thursday (Oct 17) in Dubai. It is a repeat of the 2023 T20 WC final as the Laura Wolvaardt-led Proteas Women have a stern task to move past favourites Aussies and enter the summit clash.

Talking about Australia, they topped Group A by remaining unbeaten; with four wins on the trot. They were hardly challenged by any team in the group and look set to enter another WC final. The six-time T20 WC winners are sweating hard on captain Alyssa Healy's fitness, who missed her side's last group game (versus India). If she misses out, Tahila McGrath will continue to lead. 

On Healy, stand-in vice-captain Ellyse Perry said, ahead of the game, "As it stands, it's the same thing for Midge, the medical staff and the team are going to give her every opportunity and possibility of playing tomorrow night. I don't think anything's changed in that respect. We'll just have to see in the next 24 hours."

Meanwhile, SA have reached the semifinals with one loss, to England, and three big wins. Like Australia, their openers know how to make it big in knockouts and pacer spearheads of both sides have been economical. It will all boil down to handling nerves on the big match. In head-to-head, Australia lead SA 9-1 in T20Is.
