Morne Morkel

India's new bowling coach Morne Morkel has said that being appointed in his current position is a matter of shared pride in his family. Morkel made the comments at the Indian team's camp in Chennai ahead of the upcoming first Test of the two-Test series against Bangladesh.

Morkel also revealed that he informed about this moment first of all to his father who has been a cricket fan for years.

“When I ended the call, I sat for about five minutes in the room reflecting on it and then I first phoned my dad,” Morkel said in a video shared by BCCI.

“I didn't even go to my wife. You know, normally they say go to your wife first, but I spoke to my dad and I mean, being a cricket fan for years and knowing what was going to come up, this is quite a special moment for me.

"For him, the appointment is not just a professional achievement but a moment of shared pride with his family. I enjoyed it for about 5 to 7 minutes to myself and then obviously shared with the family that this is an opportunity and potentially that might happen. I'm just so delighted that we eventually got things over the line, and I'm here,” Morkel added.

India have a bumper Test season coming up which starts on September 19 against Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma-led team hosts New Zealand for three Tests before travelling to Australia for a five-Test Border-Gavaskar series.

India will be looking to find the right replacements for veterans Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane in the two home Test series before travelling to Australia where they aim to win a third consecutive Test series.

India last lost to Australia in a Test series back in 2014 and have won all four played since then between the two countries.
