Team India return home: Will remember hugging Rohit after T20 World Cup final win, says Virat Kohli

Team India returned home on Thursday morning (July 4) in New Delhi after a victorious T20 World Cup campaign, in West Indies and the USA. They landed in New Delhi and met PM Narendra Modi before heading to Mumbai, where the BCCI had an open bus victory parade arranged for the national side. Ahuge crowd had gathered to get a glimpse of the players, while they headed to the Wankhede Stadium for their felicitation. During the event at the Wankhede, Virat Kohli recalled hugging captain Rohit Sharma after India's 7-run win in the T20 WC final versus South Africa, in Barbados, on June 29.

Talking to Gaurav Kapoor, the event host, Kohli said, "Rohit and I, we've been trying this for so long. We always wanted to win a World Cup. Bringing the trophy back to Wankhede is a very special feeling... When I was walking up the stairs, I was crying. Rohit was crying. I will never forget that moment."

At the felicitation ceremony, the Indian team was handed acheque of INR 1.25 billion ($15 million) by BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah and Treasurer Ashish Shelar.

In the same event, outgoing head coach Rahul Dravid also showered high praise on the Indian team. He said, "I think they are like family. It has been just incredible what these boys have done. Just the level of hard work, resilience, a fighting spirit, a never-say-die attitude, and constantly looking to get better. As a coach and as a support staff, we could never have asked for anything more. It is truly a privilege to be able to coach and work with these boys."

Dravid's tenure as India's head coach ended with India's T20 WC run. He is likely to be replaced by Gautam Gambhir, later this month.
