Faf du Plessis ran riot at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru as he scored 64 runs off 23 balls to wreak havoc for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) on Saturday (May 4). Playing against Gujarat Titans, the RCB skipper was at his fluent best to help his side to a 92-run opening stand in the IPL 2024. The quick start, however, was followed by a titanic collapse as RCB lost six wickets in the next five overs.

Needing 148 runs to win, Du Plessis took the attack to the opposition bowling attack and scored runs all over the park. His 17-ball fifty was the second-fastest for the franchise andone thatlaid the foundation for a good start. His innings of 64 runs consisted of 10 fours andthree sixesandwith ViratKohlihe scored 92 runs in the powerplay, thehighest for RCB in the tournamentâs history.
Having been 92/0, the hosts quickly were reduced to 117/6 as they lost six wickets inthe space of25 runs. Joshua Little was the architect of the RCB downfall as he scalped four wickets during his four-over spell. After Fafâs dismissal, Will Jacks (1), Glenn Maxwell (4), Rajat Patidar (2) and Cameron Green (1) departed in quick succession. Virat Kohlialso joined the pack when hewas dismissedfor 42 off 27.
In the end, Dinesh Karthik (21) and Swapnil Singh (15) got the side home to register just their fourth win of the IPL 2024 season.
However, despite thisRCBstill managed to secure the win as they won by four wickets with 38 balls to spare. The big win helps them improve their net run rate whilealsolifting the side from the bottom of the IPL 2024 standings.
RCB are now seventh in the standings with eight points in 11 matches and still retain an outside opportunity to reach the playoffs. They next face Punjab Kings on Thursday (May 9) in Himachal Pradesh.
