It was a perfect day at the office for Team India in the ongoing first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai on Saturday (Sep 21). The duo of Shubman Gill (unbeaten 119) and Rishabh Pant (109) slammed respective hundreds as India are now six wickets away from victory as Bangladesh closed Day 3 at 158/4 and need 357 runs to win. However, it was the great Sachin Tendulkar who caught the eye of the netizens as he took to his social media to congratulate the duo after a successful Day 3.
Tendulkar applauds Gill, Pant
"Loved watching @ShubmanGill glide his way to a hundred. And @RishabhPant17, despite being away from the longer format for quite some time, looks as sharp as ever. Great to see both of them in such fine rhythm,” Tendulkar posted on his X handle.
Starting the day at 81/3, the Indian batting duo of Gill and Pant would come out with class as they scored respective hundreds. The latter’s hundred saw him equal MS Dhoni’s record for most Test hundreds for India by a wicketkeeper-batter. It was Pant’s sixth in the red-ball format having only returned to the format after 21 months. He was later dismissed by Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 109 as India’s lead was on the verge of 500.
KL Rahul remained unbeaten at 22 while Gill carried his bat on 119 before Rohit Sharma declared at 287/4. Miraz scalped two wickets while Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana bagged one each.

Bangladesh collapse after good start
Needing 515 runs to win, Bangladesh openers Zakir Hasan (33) and Shadman Islam (35) got their team off to a good start. They stitched a partnership of 62 runs for the opening wicket before a brilliant catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal at wide slip saw India break the partnership with Hasan’s wicket. They would soon lose Islam before Mominul Haque (13) and Mushfiqur Rahim (13) and were sent back to the pavilion by Ravichandran Ashwin.
He ended the day with figures of 63/3 having also scored a hundred in the first innings. Bangladesh at Stumps were 158/4 with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto unbeaten on 51 and Shakib Al Hasan on 5.
