Tata Motors, the Indian automotive giant, experienced a decline in its August 2024 sales compared to the same period last year. The company's total sales for the month stood at 71,693 units, an eight per cent decrease from the 78,010 units sold in August 2023. This decline was observed across both the domestic and commercial vehicle segments.

In the domestic market, Tata Motors' sales fell by eight per cent, from 76,261 units in August 2023 to 70,006 units in August 2024. The commercial vehicles segment, which includes trucks and buses, also saw a 15 per cent decline, with sales dropping from 32,077 units in August 2023 to 27,207 units in August 2024.

Going deeper into the commercial vehicles segment, the domestic sales of medium and heavy intermediate commercial vehicles (MH & ICV), including trucks and buses, registered a 12 per cent decline, from 13,506 units in August 2023 to 12,008 units in August 2024. The total sales for MH & ICV, including both domestic and international business, stood at 12,708 units in August 2024, down from 14,016 units in the same period the previous year.

In the passenger vehicle segment, which includes electric vehicles (EVs), Tata Motors witnessed a three per cent dip in sales, from 45,933 units in August 2023 to 44,486 units in August 2024.

However, the company's performance in the April-June period of the current fiscal year (FY25) was more positive. Global wholesale numbers for all Tata Motors' commercial vehicles, including the Tata Daewoo range, reached 93,410 units, a six per cent increase over the same quarter in the previous fiscal year (FY24). In contrast, global wholesale numbers for passenger vehicles, including EVs, were slightly down by one per cent, reaching 138,682 units.

Overall, the sales figures for the first quarter of FY25, covering both domestic and international markets, stood at 229,891 vehicles, an increase from the 226,245 units recorded in the same period of FY24.
