Firm with China link faces inquiry after Bangkok skyscraper collapse in quake

A strong 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck near Tonga in the early morning hours of Monday (Mar 31) local time, according to the US Geological Survey. Following the tremors, a tsunami warning was issued in the region, which was later lifted for the Pacific island nation.
According to the USGS, the shallow quake hit about 100 kilometres (62 miles) northeast of the main island of the Pacific country. The warnings have also been issued for the island nation of Niue.

According to local media Talanoa o Tonga, tsunami sirens were heard shortly after the quake, which occurred at 1:18 am, urging residents to move inland. There were no initial reports of damage.
The Tonga national disaster agency issued a warning, urging residents to stay away from beaches and shorelines.
&ldquo;People living on the low lying coast areas please move to higher grounds or further in land,&rdquo; said Tonga National Disaster Risk Management Office.

'Lay down arms and leave': Netanyahu offers Hamas leaders way out of Gaza, but with one condition

United States President Donald Trump said that no option was off the table for his plans to take over Greenland in an interview on Saturday (Mar 29). The president also defended his national security team amid the Signal chat leak.

As President Donald Trump&rsquo;s new tariffs are set to take effect in just two days, India and the United States have agreed to wrap up part of a trade agreement by the end of the year. 
Despite this progress, there has been no word on whether India will be granted any relief from the incoming tariffs. Starting 2 April, Indian exports are likely to be hit by fresh import duties from the US.
Officials from both nations held discussions in New Delhi this week, working on the first stage of a wider trade deal that they hope to finalise by autumn 2025.

<h2>What was discussed?</h2>
In a statement released on Saturday night, India&rsquo;s commerce ministry said both sides had "broadly come to an understanding on the next steps towards a mutually beneficial, multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), to finalise its first tranche by fall 2025".

The talks covered ways to "deepen bilateral cooperation in priority areas including increasing market access, reducing tariff and non-tariff barriers and deepening supply chain integration".
Still, there was no indication that either side would act before Tuesday when the new US tariffs are due to start.
According to India Ratings and Research, a credit rating agency, the US tariff hike could cause India&rsquo;s exports to fall by as much as $7.3 billion in the next financial year.

Tehran has reportedly issued a warning that it will target British forces in the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean if United States President Donald Trump attacks Iran. The Telegraph on Saturday reported, quoting a senior Iranian military official, that Tehran would strike the joint US-UK naval base on Diego Garcia in response to any US attack. The warning came a day after Trump said that Iran faces severe consequences if it fails to reach a nuclear deal.&nbsp;
"There will be no distinction in targeting British or American forces if Iran is attacked from any base in the region or within the range of Iranian missiles," he said as quoted. &nbsp;

While responding to the threat, a British government spokesman on Saturday told the UK-based media outlet, "The UK Government continues to work with partners across the region to encourage de-escalation."&nbsp;
"The base on Diego Garcia is vital to UK and US security and plays a crucial role in maintaining regional and international security," the spokesman further added.&nbsp;

As per the report, the Iranian state media said that Tehran would strike the Diego Garcia facility with ballistic missiles and suicide drones in retaliation for any US "hostile action against the Iranian nation".&nbsp;
"Iran possesses adequate weapons for such an attack from its mainland, such as newer versions of the Khorramshahr missile that have an intermediate range, and the Shahed-136B kamikaze drone with a range of 4,000km [2,485 miles]," it warned.&nbsp;
