Russian President Vladimir Putin with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a display of camaraderie and collective military solidarity, arrived in Pyongyang to a resplendent welcome on Tuesday (June 19).
The visit, a first in 24 years by a Russian leader, marked a gesture of friendship between Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, against the backdrop of escalating tensions of the two countries with Western nations.
After he stepped on to North Korean soil, Putin embarked on a series of engagements to underscore the deepening ties between Moscow and Pyongyang.
Putin's arrival saw the streets of Pyongyang adorned with flags and images of him.
A highlight of the visit was a leisurely drive that Putin took with Kim in a luxurious Russian-built Aurus limousine, a gift from Putin himself.

The black armoured vehicle, akin to Putin's own official presidential car in Russia, became a symbol of their burgeoning friendship as they cruised through the city streets.
Russian state TV captured the moment showing Putin at the wheel and Kim beside him.
The trip also solidified their military cooperation, with both leaders signing an agreement that included a mutual defence pledge. Kim described the strengthened ties as an "alliance".
"The comprehensive partnership agreement signed today provides, among other things, for mutual assistance in the event of aggression against one of the parties to this agreement," Putin said.
The camaraderie extended beyond the diplomatic talks, as Putin and Kim were seen strolling side by side through a wooded area, engaging in conversation.
North Koreans lined the streets, greeting both leaders warmly as they passed by in an open top Mercedes.
Kim, known for his appreciation of luxury vehicles, received his first Aurus limousine earlier this year from Putin.
As both leaders shared moments ofleisurely drive, the gesture further cemented their personal rapport.
The visit also coincided with heightened tensions between Russia and the West, particularly in the wake of economic sanctions imposed on Russia in the wake of its attack on Ukraine.
North Korea, despite its own challenges, has emerged as a steadfast partner for Russia amid international isolation.
