Trump assassination attempt: Who was the man killed at ex-US president's rally?

The man who was killed during the assassination attempt on former United States (US) president Donald Trump has been identified. According toPennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, the victim wasCorey Comperatore,a former fire chief from Butler. He was aged 50 at the time of his death.

Governor Shapiro calledComperatore a "hero" and said that he was an avid supporter of Trump. "Corey was an avid supporter of the former president and was so excited to be there last night with him in the community," Shapiro told reporters.

"Corey was a girl dad. Corey was a firefighter. Corey went to church every Sunday. Corey loved his community and most especially, we loved his family," Shapiro further said during the press conference.

ThePennsylvania governor said that, according toComperatore's wife, her husband protected the family when gunfire began at Trump's rally.

"She also asked that I share with all of you that Corey died a hero, that Corey dove on his family to protect them last night at this rally," said Shapiro. "Corey was the very best of us. May his memory be a blessing," Shapiro added.

'The hatred of one man...'

In a post on Facebook, the victim's sisterDawn Comperatore Schafer said, "He was a hero that shielded his daughters. His wife and girls just lived through the unthinkable and unimaginable. My baby brother just turned 50 and had so much life left to experience."

Talking about the shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks, Schafer said, "The hatred for one man took the life of the one man we loved the most."

"Hatred has no limits and love has no bounds. Pray for my sister-in-law, nieces, my mother, sister, me, and his nieces and nephews as this feels like a terrible nightmare but we know it is our painful reality," she added.
