Three Indian-origin students killed, two injured in road accident in US

Three Indian-American students were killed and two others were injured in a road accident on May 14 in the US state of Georgia.
According to local police, the deceased identified as Sriya Avasarala, Anvi Sharma and Aryan Joshi, were killed in a single-vehicle crash last week on Westside Parkway in Alpharetta.
It is believed that the driver, Rithwak Somepalli lost control of the car which flipped and came to rest upside down in the tree line.
Two of the occupants, Joshi and Avasarala, lost their lives while the remaining three were rushed to North Fulton Hospital for treatment, where Sharma succumbed to injuries on May 15, Alpharetta police said in a statement.
Avasarala and Sharma were University of Georgia students while Joshi was a senior at Alpharetta High School.

Rithwak Somepalli, a Georgia State University student who was at the wheels, and Mohammed Liyakath, a senior at Alpharetta High School, were identified as the other two injured students. All were 18 years old, according to the police statement.
The incident prompted the closure of the roadway between Hembree Road and Maxwell Road.
The investigation into the case remains ongoing. However, the police statement said that from the initial data gathered it is believed that speed may have been a key factor in the crash.

The University of Georgia issued a statement expressing condolences for the lives lost in the tragic accident, extending support to their kith and kin during this challenging time.
“The University of Georgia community mourns the lives lost in this tragic accident. Our deepest condolences go out to their families and loved ones as they navigate this difficult time. We hope their memories bring comfort and strength to all who knew them,” UGA Media Relations said.
