Israeli attack in Gaza kills 20, including women and children, say Palestinian officials

An Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza on Monday (November 04) night killed at least 20 people, most of whom were women and children, claimed Palestinian authorities on Tuesday.
The strike hit a residence in Beit Lahiya, a town close to Israel’s border, where several families who had been displaced were taking shelter, said local media reports.
The Israeli military said that the target was a weapons storage site used by a militant. They added that “numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians.”
According to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry’s emergency services, the victims included eight women and six children. Additional airstrikes across Gaza on Tuesday morning killed another 10 people, health officials confirmed.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) have ordered a full evacuation of Beit Lahiya, along with the nearby town of Beit Hanoun and the densely populated Jabaliya refugee camp.

In a seperate development, over 100 patients, including children with trauma and chronic illnesses, will be transported from Gaza in a rare evacuation from the conflict-affected area, a World Health Organization (WHO) official confirmed on Tuesday.
“These are ad hoc measures. What we have requested repeatedly is a sustained medevac (medical evacuation) outside of Gaza,” stated Rik Peeperkorn, the WHO’s representative for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, noting that 12,000 individuals were still in need of transfer.
The patients will be part of a large convoy passing through the Kerem Shalom crossing into Israel before flying to the United Arab Emirates. From there, some will continue their journey to Romania, he added.
