Last month President Trump had imposed stiff tariffs worth $60 billion on Chinese goods entering the US which led China to hit back with similar tariffs in a tit-for-tat move.

In a move to recognise China as a key backer of North and South Korean talks, President Trump today thanked President Xi's contribution as Kim Jong Un and President Moon concluded their day-long engagement at DMZ's peace village.

"Please do not forget the great help that my good friend, President Xi of China has given to the US, particularly at the border of North Korea," President Trump said even as relations between China and the US continued to be on the edge over trade tariffs and imposition of stiff penalties on several goods by the Trump administration.

Last month President Trump had imposed stiff tariffs worth $60 billion on Chinese goods entering the US which led China to hit back with similar tariffs in a tit-for-tat move.

"Without him it would have been a much longer, tougher, process," Trump said acknowledging China's role in persuading Kim to conduct talks with South Korean President Moon.

Trump's move comes as he prepares to host the North Korean leader in a summit meeting next month which is being keenly watched by experts.

On Thursday, the US president had said there are "three or four" possible dates were being considered for the landmark summit.

"We have a decision to be made. We have three and four dates. That includes five locations. That will be narrowed down," Trump said on Fox News.
