US President Donald Trump and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer addressed a press conference on Thursday (Sep 18), and both leaders paid tributes to right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk. Trump said that Kirk was assassinated for speaking his mind and described him as a great person who was passionate about helping the youth. He recalled telling Kirk that he had a strong chance of becoming President one day. Trump also confirmed that he would be attending Kirk’s memorial service on Sunday.
"Kirk was heinously assassinated for speaking his mind. I told Kirk he had a “good shot someday at being president. He connected with the youth like no other…Young people are devastated following his death,” Trump said during the press conference.
When asked about free speech and the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel's show, Trump came down heavily on Kimmel and said that he is a “terrible person” who lacks any real talent. The US President further said that his recent remarks about Charlie Kirk were completely out of line and only added to the growing list of reasons why he should no longer be on air. “His ratings were down, he should have anyways been canceled long ago,” Trump added.

He was best known as the founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), a nonprofit that seeks to spread conservative ideas to students on US campuses. He launched it at age 18. Known for his staunch support of Donald Trump and provocative political style, Kirk was often described as the "youth whisperer" of the American right.
