<p>A geoscientist at the National Spanish Research Council in Madrid and study co-author&nbsp; Daniel Pastor-Galan said that these are slow and broad-scale processes which move ahead by less than an inch every year.</p>

<p>But before that, it was difficult to create an exact model of how the interaction between the mantle and the crust happened.</p>

<h2><strong>Volcanic rocks from the Devonian period found in Mongolia</strong></h2>

<p>The researchers, in the new study, were left intrigued by volcanic rocks in northwestern Mongolia, which belonged to the Devonian period (419 million to 359 million years ago).&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Devonian period refers to the "Age of the Fishes" when the oceans were dominated by the fish and plants started to spread on the land.</p>

<p>In that period, two major continents - Laurentia and Gondwana - existed along with a long stretch of microcontinents which eventually became Asia.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a slow process, the microcontinents merged in a process known as accretion.</p>

<p>During the fieldwork in northwest Mongolia, the researchers discovered the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean which had opened up in the region nearly 410 million and 415 million years ago.</p>

FDA finds contamination in tattoo ink and permanent makeup products of many brands

<p>A recent study published in the journal Lancet Planetary Health has revealed that even short-period exposure to air pollution levels meeting the Indian standards can result in deaths. About 33,000 deaths each year can be attributed to PM 2.5 pollution levels across 10 major cities in India.</p>

<p>The study was conducted between 2008 and 2019 in cities including Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Varanasi, Kolkata, and Shimla. Delhi recorded the highest number of deaths which can be attributed to air being 11.5 per cent of the total deaths, about 12,000 every year. Varanasi recorded 10.2 per cent of the deaths, 830 every year.</p>

<p>The states meeting the national standards also witness numerous death cases attributed to pollution each year. Chennai, Bengaluru, and Shimla recorded about 4.8 per cent (2,100), 4.9 per cent (2,900), and 3.7 per cent (59) of total deaths each year, respectively.</p>

<p>The national standard set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for PM 2.5 particles is 60 micrograms per cubic metre, while WHO states only 15 micrograms per cubic metre in its guidelines. PM 2.5 particles are fine particles of pollution with diameters generally about 2.5 micrometres or smaller.</p>

<p>The researchers studied the data obtained from meteorological instruments, air quality monitors, satellites, and other sources to examine the PM 2.5 pollutants exposure over time. They compared the air quality data with the death records obtained for the 10 cities for the same period.</p>

The national standard set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) for PM 2.5 particles is 60 micrograms per cubic metre, while WHO states only 15 micrograms per cubic metre in its guidelines. PM 2.5 particles are fine particles of pollution with diameters generally about 2.5 micrometres or smaller. The researchers studied the data obtained from meteorological instruments, air quality monitors, satellites, and other sources to examine the PM 2.5 pollutants exposure over time. They compared the air quality data with the death records obtained for the 10 cities for the same period. <p>The onlookers saw the basking shark's carcass floating in the waters off Maidens Beach and eventually reaching the shore in Ayrshire, Scotland on Sunday (June 30).</p>

<p>A basking shark is the second-largest living fish found in the sea. The basking shark is also known as a 'Toothless Bruce' since it does not have teeth.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A rope was caught in between the creature's mouth and was also wrapped across its tail when it was found by Yolanda McCall. It was first mistaken by her as a whale.</p>

<p>The animal was identified by animal research and rescue groups who then moved it from the beach.</p>

<p>Yolanda McCall said it was difficult to ascertain if the animal was alive from the shore.</p>

<h2><strong>How did rescuers move the giant sea creature?</strong></h2>

<p>“It was tangled in a long loop of rope, in its mouth and caught around its tail," &nbsp;McCall said.</p>

<p>“The creature was bobbing around in the water and we couldn’t tell if it was dead or alive.&nbsp;I wanted to try to help it, if it was alive and floundering, so I put on a wetsuit and got in the water to check," she&nbsp;added while speaking to What’s The Jam.</p>

<p>"Sadly it was dead, but it looked very complete, a recent death. Maybe it got tired trying to free itself," McCall added, further stating that the shark appeared to have only recently died.</p>

<p>A man from Costa Rica, identified as Addis Miller, has gone viral after he lost weight in 21 days while trying out water fasting.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A horrific incident took place in Jakarta, Indonesia on Tuesday (July 2) when a man found his wife inside the stomach of a snake in the jungle.</p>

<p>36-year-old Siriati was visiting her brother and the two had to go to market together to purchase the medicine in Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi.</p>

<p>However, she was attacked by a gargantuan 30ft-python which held her leg by its teeth while she was trekking along a forest trail.</p>

<p>The woman was crushed to death after she was coiled by the killer reptile who then started to swallow her.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The woman's husband Adiansa started worrying about his wife when her brother called and informed him that she did not reach his house.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He found a wooden stake and killed the snake, by piercing it through the body. With the help of the villagers, he opened the stomach of the snake and found the lifeless body of Siriati.</p>

<p>They recovered the corpse and buried her in the village of Siteb the next morning.</p>

<p>Siteba Village Secretary Iyang said that the mother of five was killed by the snake around 7:30 am local time.</p>

<p>According to a report published in The Telegraph, a thief appears to have stolen the Durandal sword from its stone, even though it was wedged and chained to the stone 32ft off the ground.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The sword had remained in the tiny medieval town of Rocamadour and was one of the main attractions of the town.</p>

<p>It has been believed for centuries that the sword was once wielded by semi-legendary knight Roland who had fought wars for Charlemagne in the eighth century.</p>

<p>An investigation has been launched by the officials in Rocamadour into the mysterious disappearance of the sword.</p>

<p>Speaking to a French newspaper La Depeche, Mayor Lenfant said that the town has been devastated.</p>

<p>"We're going to miss Durandal. It's been part of Rocamadour for centuries, and there's not a guide who doesn't point it out when he visits," she added.</p>

<p>"Rocamadour feels it's been stripped of a part of itself, but even if it's a legend, the destinies of our village and this sword are entwined," the mayor said.</p>

<p>Barlow battled for three days as the weather slowly damaged his ship. With the help of a Garmin tracker, he was in touch with his family.</p>

<p>"The autopilot broke in the first storm, so we had been hand steering for three days. [My friend] had all the symptoms of hypothermia and he went down below and passed out. He was unconscious throughout all of this," he said.</p>

<p>He decided to hit the SOS button on his Garmin and was able to contact the Coast Guard in New Orleans. After which he was rescued, but had to abandon the ship.</p>

The company conducted an&nbsp;archaeological survey in 2023 in an effort to document the remains of a Spanish galleon called the Nuestra Señora de la Maravillas. The galleon got lost in 1656 and the wreckage was found scattered in a massive area. This is where the researchers found the Russian cannons.</p>

<p>"We've found all kinds of archaeology out here. Everything from gold chains and amethysts the size of your thumb to clay tobacco pipes. But imperial Russian guns fired in anger over 170 years ago? That's stunning," Allen said in a news release.</p>

<p>Among the several guns found, the barrel on one of them had a double-headed eagle—the coat of arms of the Russian tsars. A broken-off trunnion, a mounting or pivoting point in a cannon that is cylindrical in shape,&nbsp;had a unique crest -&nbsp;three lines of Cyrillic text -&nbsp;on it. Since trunnions are normally plain, the artistry on some of them led AllenX to zero in on its origin and they traced it back to 19th century Russia.</p>
