<p>A man was detained by customs officers in China as he tried to smuggle more than 100 live snakes into the country by hiding them down his pants. China Customs said in a statement Tuesday (Jul 9) that the man was detained in the border city of Shenzhen and he was travelling from the semi-autonomous Hong Kong region. “Upon inspection, customs officers discovered that the pockets of the trousers the passenger was wearing were packed with six canvas drawstring bags and sealed with tape,” the statement read.</p>

<p>“Once opened, each bag was found to contain living snakes in all kinds of shapes, sizes and colours,” it added.</p>

<p>The State Food Agency (SFA) of Singapore gave approval to 16 types of insects - species of crickets, mealworms, grasshoppers, locusts and silkworms - which they called 'edible' for human consumption.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The SFA issued a public circular in this regard to the food traders on July 8. “With immediate effect, SFA will allow the import of insects and insect products belonging to species that have been assessed to be of low regulatory concern,” said the agency, in the press release.</p>

<p>Researchers at the University of Innsbruck made the discovery while excavating an early Christian church that was once likely a pagan sanctuary. However, after Roman emperor Constantine the Great converted to Christianity, he issued the Edict of Milan in 313 AD legalising the religion. Later in 380 AD, Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The researchers pulled out a sealing stone from a depression in the area where an altar supposedly used to stand. The marble box was found broken into pieces inside the sealing stone. Scenes from the Old and New Testaments showing bearded men are depicted around the box. Experts say that this box was considered extremely holy, so it being found left among the ruins seems a bit weird.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Christian imagery on the box&nbsp;</h2>

<p>It shows Moses and Jesus Christ, although experts aren't fully sure of the depiction. They assume that it shows Moses either receiving the laws from God or parting the Red Sea since the figure is at the foot of a mountain.</p>

<p>Another imagery is assumed to be showing Jesus resurrecting from the burial chamber following the crucifixion.</p>

<p>"A second scene that we can address well is the figure being pulled up again by a hand that sticks out of the cloud, which is the hand of God again. And here we are dealing with an ascension. In addition to the hand of God, a team of horses is also shown here. You can still see two horses and a wheel from the cart," Dr Barbara Kainrath, who was part of the research, said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>There are several passages in the Bible that show two horses, so it is hard to ascertain which scene has been depicted on the box.</p>

<p>Researchers also say that the ivory pyx was likely made in a different region, considering the materials needed to make it were not available in the region. "So we're assuming an area between Alexandria, Ravenna or – the closest – Aquileia would be conceivable," a researcher said.</p>

Particles faster than light might make up dark matter, scientists suggest

<p>Firearm mania in the US has reached another peak with gun owners in three states now having&nbsp;the 'convenience' to buy bullets from vending machines in grocery shops.</p>

<p>Shops in the southern states of Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas allow customers to scan their ID on the ammo dispenser similar to a drink vending machine. After going through the plethora of options, the customer can walk away with rounds for their weapon.&nbsp;</p>

<p>American Rounds, the company which devised the ammo dispenser said its device uses Artificial Technology (AI) and that it is as easy to use as an ATM.</p>

<p>"Our smart retail automated ammo dispensers have built-in AI technology, card scanning capability and facial recognition software," the company said.</p>

<p>"Each piece of software works together to verify the buyer’s age and that the person using the machine matches the identification scanned."</p>

<p>The federal law in the US requires&nbsp;a customer to be at least&nbsp;18 years old to purchase ammunition for long guns such as rifles and shotguns, and at least 21 for handgun bullets. American Rounds claims that its&nbsp;identity verification mechanism in the bullet vending machines is able to ensure that only eligible individuals are making the purchase.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The company says it will continue the rollout of the devices in states where hunting is popular, including Louisiana and Colorado.</p>

<p>A store in&nbsp;Tuscaloosa, Alabama, however, removed the machine after its legality was questioned at a city council meeting. The legal department of the city confirmed that the machines were legal if they met proper zoning requirements.&nbsp;<br />

<p>The application, which is officially called the Digital Wallet Beta (Cartera Digital Beta), was launched this week and will make it possible for internet sites to check if the user is above the age of 18.</p>

<p>The porn viewers will have to download the application and verify their age for accessing the content. After getting verified, 30 generated “porn credits" will be given to them, which will have one month's validity.</p>

<p>These credits will be used for accessing the adult content. People are also free to request for extra credits.&nbsp;</p>

<p>People have criticised the tool for its complexity, however, the government has stated that the credit-based model is more privacy-friendly and will ensure the online activities of the users are not easily traceable.</p>

<p>“While often spotted from the ground near the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, the orbiting laboratory’s unique vantage point gives low Earth orbit crews a front-row seat to the colourful spectacle,” the space station added.</p>

<p>In an unbelievable incident, an Indian man - identified as Santosh Lohar hailing&nbsp;from the state of Bihar - dug his teeth in a snake after it bit him while he was sleeping.</p>

<p>The man, who was a resident of Nawada city, was sleeping at his base camp after completing the entire day's work of placing railway lines when he was attacked by the snake.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The man, who believed in the superstition that biting the snake helps in neutralising the venom, decided to do the same and bit the snake twice, as reported by the NDTV.</p>

<p>The 35-year-old man's unconventional response led to the death of the snake, however, he was also admitted to the hospital.</p>

<p>Also, the person after getting bitten by the snake, should immediately leave the area and remove any jewellery or tight clothing.</p>

<p>The affected limb should be immobilised and it should be kept still. Nobody should try to suck out the venom. The victim should instead be taken to a health facility quickly and safely.</p>
