In yet another alarming food incident, a resident of Jamnagar in India's Gujarat state found a fried frog inside a packet of wafers. Jasmin Patel, a resident of Pushkardham Society, said his nine-year-old niece bought the packet of Balaji Wafers from a nearby shop at 8 pm on Tuesday (Jun 18). After opening it and eating several pieces from the packet, they were left shocked upon finding a fried frog inside it.

They discarded the packet and went to the shop owner immediately to raise a complaint. After receiving an unsatisfactory response, he called up the customer care executive of Balaji Wafers. According to Patel, "A lady&nbsp;picked up the phone and she told me that I am free to take any action I want."

We are taking samples of wafers of the same batch number from the distribution agency for laboratory test," D B Parmar, a food safety officer of JMC, was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

Balaji Wafers, meanwhile, has reiterated its commitment towards food hygiene and said it will fully cooperate with the authorities as the investigation continues.

Jay Sachdev, the marketing manager of Balaji Wafers, said it was "not possible" for someone to find a frog inside the packet.

"We maintain complete hygiene while producing the snacks in our factory and it's not possible to find frogs inside our snack packet. We allow visitation of our plants to the students every week. If JMC starts an investigation we will fully cooperate," he said.

PadhAI, an artificial intelligence (AI) app launched in India is making headlines for its stunning performance in the UPSC preliminary exams 2024, reportedly scoring over 170 marks out of 200 with incredible speed and accuracy. UPSC or Union Public Service Commission exams lead to jobs in coveted government jobs like IAS or Indian Administrative Services. They are some of the toughest tests in India.

Solving the entire paper in a mere seven minutes, PadhAI far exceeded the typical score needed to qualify, which generally falls below 100, and outperformed commercially available AI models.

The educational AI app, developed by IITians, took the exam publicly in the presence of guests from the education sector, the UPSC community, and media professionals at Delhi's The Lalit hotel.

The event was also live-streamed at livestream.padhai.ai and YouTube, where the questions and answers are publicly available, the statement said.&nbsp;

"This is the highest score achieved in the last 10 years of UPSC exams. We believe that while our event is first of its kind, in a few years, such events will become commonplace as several educational institutions race to solve papers quickly and precisely with AIs," PadhAI's CEO Karttikeya Mangalam said.

This device has been instrumental in driving wild animals such as elephants, deer and bison away from train tracks and saving lives.&nbsp;

The Automatic Bar Controlling Forest Animal Accident has dual features to protect the animals from accidents. It contains a siren, a submersible motor pump and a relay device.&nbsp;

The timelapse video was posted over the weekend when the crew of the Starliner, astronauts Barry “Butch” Wilmore and Sunita “Suni” Williams were running some tests ahead of their journey back to Earth which has since been delayed.&nbsp;

After multiple delays in its journey from Earth to the ISS, the spacecraft and its crew’s return has also been delayed.&nbsp;

Starliner was expected to undock from the ISS on June 14 and return to Earth after launching its inaugural crew of two NASA astronauts from Florida on June 5.&nbsp;

However, the American space agency announced that the Starliner crew will return no earlier than Saturday (Jun 22).&nbsp;

“The extra time allows the team to finalise departure planning and operations while the spacecraft remains cleared for crew emergency return scenarios within the flight rules,” NASA said in a blog post.&nbsp;

Shortly after the complaint, the police reached the woman’s residence, rescued the child, and detained the mother for interrogation.&nbsp;

While addressing the media, the child helpline officials said that after coming across the incident, where a mother was abusing her child by making the infant smoke and drink alcohol, police were immediately informed and appropriate action was taken. The mother was&nbsp;detained and the child was rescued.

The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has taken temporary custody of the mother and child to ensure the child's safety.&nbsp;

A thorough investigation will be conducted, including reviewing any available evidence and interviewing the mother. This will help determine the best course of action for the child's future.

Social media users criticised the mother and demanded appropriate action against the woman with many even saying that the child should be given for adoption.&nbsp;

User Jasmeen Bajwa wrote, "This is so alarming. What's wrong with this woman? Extremely disturbing."

Based on the style&nbsp;of pottery fragments discovered during the excavation, archaeologists have tentatively dated the building to 2000 BC to 1700 BC, in the middle of the Minoan civilization, LiveScience reported.

A statement from Greece's culture ministry said that the building was&nbsp;unlikely to have been used as a residence.&nbsp;

The building near the town of Kastelli&nbsp;appears to have had&nbsp;two main zones-&nbsp;a circular building with a diameter of 49 feet at the very centre and an area created by the walls radiating out from it.&nbsp;

The site has been earmarked&nbsp;for a radar station to serve a new airport under construction near&nbsp;Kastelli. The airport, which is set to open in 2027, is projected&nbsp;to replace Greece’s second-biggest airport at Heraklion.

The airport will be designed to&nbsp;handle up to 18 million travellers annually.

However, around 18 minutes later elephant caretakers heard a loud thud and were shocked to see that the 36-year-old elephant gave birth to another baby, a female.&nbsp;

One of the caretakers, Charin Somwang, 31, was injured while trying to control the large elephant and reportedly broke his leg when he stepped between the mother and her offspring.&nbsp;

Somwang told the BBC he “was so happy” at the time that he “couldn’t feel pain”. It wasn’t until he reached the hospital later that he realised the extent of the injury, said the 31-year-old.

On Friday (Jun 14), Monks from Wat Traimit in Bangkok came to bless the twins as a part of merit-making ceremonies for the occasion, according to the Associated Press.&nbsp;

Speaking to NBC News, site’s director Gabriel Zuchtriegel said that this is a “very unusual thing for Pompeii". He added that blue “was the most expensive colour” because it was difficult to make this colour.&nbsp;

“You had to import it from Egypt and the eastern Mediterranean and beyond. So it was expensive, and if you wanted to have something in blue, you had to pay more. Red, yellow and black were much easier to produce because natural materials like stone and sand were widely available," he said.

The room's size was nearly 90 square feet and it was initially excavated during the Bourbon period (1813-1840) but was recently found and shown for the first time on May 27.

The room was found in block No. 10 of Pompeii’s ninth section. This is that part of the town which has not been excavated&nbsp;before after the region was destroyed in the eruption of the Vesuvius volcano in 79 A.D.

In 1967, an underground cistern known as a chultun was discovered near a sacred body of water at Chichen Itza, an important ancient Maya city on Mexico's Yucatan peninsula. Skeletal remains of more than 100 children were found inside.

Now, DNA obtained from 64 of them is offering insight into child sacrifice at Chichen Itza in the centuries before Europeans reached the New World. Those entombed were all boys - some of them brothers, including two sets of identical twins - killed during religious rituals, scientists said on Wednesday. Most were ages 3 to 6.

Most were interred in the mass grave during the pinnacle of Chichen Itza's political and cultural clout, from about 800 AD to 1000 AD, though some were buried in the centuries before and after that, covering a 500-year span ending at around 1100.

Twins figure prominently in ancient Maya religion and art, and sacrificing twins is described in sacred writings, including a book called the Popol Vuh. The Mayan Hero Twins, Hunahpu and Xbalanque, underwent cycles of sacrifice and resurrection as they confronted gods of the underworld. Subterranean structures like the chultun were considered entrances to the underworld, central to Maya cosmogony.

"Ritual sacrifice was a common practice among ancient Mesoamerican populations. However, the biological relationships between the sacrificed individuals had not been described before," said archaeogeneticist Rodrigo Barquera of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (MPI-EVA) in Germany, lead author of the study published in the journal Nature.

"We think that the people from Chichen Itza were trying to symbolically replicate the Mayan mythological stories and the representation of the twin heroes in this ritual burial," Barquera added. "For Maya, and Mesoamerican cultures in general, death is the ultimate offering, and as such, sacrifices bear high importance to their beliefs system."

Chichen Itza is known for its stunning architecture, including an impressive pyramid structure now called El Castillo. Nearby is a sacred water-filled sinkhole called a cenote, where the bodies of more than 200 people were found. And close to that is the chultun where the boys were buried.

"The original purpose of chultuns was to store fresh water. This one had been repurposed into a funerary chamber adjacent to a small natural cave. Both the chultun and the cave were filled with human remains," Barquera said.

DNA was extracted from the petrous portion of the temporal bone, which houses the inner ear. This small bone has proven optimal in preserving ancient DNA.

"We sampled only the left portion because that would make sure we sampled every individual only once. It was not preserved for every individual in the chultun, therefore we sampled only a subset," said MPI-EVA archaeogeneticist and study co-author Kathrin Nägele.

"From the genetic similarities of two individuals, we can calculate the degree of genetic relationship. In this case, we found two pairs who were so similar they could only be identical twins, and at least three more who were full siblings. They could have also been twins, but fraternal twins, coming from two different egg cells," Nägele said. "This is the first time we are able to confidently identify identical twins in the archaeological record."

The research contradicted an idea popularized in the 20th century that the ancient Maya preferred female sacrifices.

The researchers also compared the genomes of the boys to those of present-day Maya communities, including people from the village of Tixcacaltuyub near Chichen Itza's ruins. They identified genetic traits in modern Maya likely arising from immune system adaptations by their ancestors to an epidemic bacterial infection during Spanish colonization.

It remains unclear how the boys died.

"There are no cut marks or evidence of trauma, which tells us how did they not die. But we have not found a cause of death for them yet," Barquera said.

"During the Spanish colonial period, thousands of Maya books and texts were systematically burned, and there were concerted efforts to stamp out Maya religious beliefs and activities and replace them with Christianity," said Harvard University biomolecular archaeologist and study co-author Christina Warinner.

"As a result, there are many gaps in our knowledge about the specific ritual practices performed by the ancient Maya - and especially their meaning," Warinner added. "Among these, human sacrifice remains one of the most misunderstood ritual acts."

On June 12, (Wednesday) at around 5:30 pm CDT, NASA accidentally aired audio from a&nbsp;medical drill being&nbsp;conducted at the International Space Station on its live stream. This created a panic amongst the audience as they thought a crew member was in a critical condition.

Due to some glitch, NASA's live stream was interrupted by a message, "temporarily interrupted" and the audience was able to hear the audio of a medical drill which caused grave concern among the viewers.

Gauging the severity of the situation, NASA was forced to deny that there was an emergency at the International Space Station (ISS). NASA's ISS account took to X and wrote, “There is no emergency situation going on aboard the International Space Station. Audio was inadvertently misrouted from an ongoing simulation where crew members and ground teams train for various scenarios in space.”

“So if we could get the commander back in his suit, get it sealed … for suited hyperbaric treatment … Prior to sealing, closing the visor and pressurising the suit, I would like you to check his pulse one more time,” a flight surgeon working at the SpaceX centre was heard saying in the audio that was accidentally aired on YouTube.

NASA assured that the audio was from a simulation to prepare the team for any adversity they may encounter aboard and not a real crisis. Putting the viewers at ease, they said that the crew was healthy and safe and in fact in their 'sleeping period' when this audio aired.&nbsp;
