
Lina De Sousa Abreu, a woman prison officer in London has been charged with misconduct in public office after a video surfaced on social media.
It is alleged that the 30-year-old woman prison officer was involved in having sex with an inmate at the HMP Wandsworth prison in Southwest London.
"A police investigation was launched on 28 June after officials were made aware of a video filmed inside HMP Wandswoth. A woman was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office later that day." A spokesperson of the Met Police Department said in a statement.
A full-fledged investigation was launched by The Metropolitan Police Department on Friday after the video was seen online. The video clip was recorded from inside the prison premises and the police officer was in her uniform before indulging in the alleged act. Lina De Sousa Abreu will be presented before the Uxbridge Magistrates' Court on Monday (July 1).
The HMP Wandsworth prison was built in 1851 during the Victorian era. Several issues have been reported in the prison such as violence and staffing issues. It is overcrowded and currently operating beyond its capacity by having over 1,500 prisoners.

The situation at the HMP prison calls for immediate action to improve the deplorable state of the facility. Charlie Taylor, Chief Inspector of Prisons issued an "urgent notification" to Alex Chalk, Justice Secretary urging for improvements in the prison. Charlie submitted a report that described the current state of the facility as chaotic and the need for more staff to manage the inmates effectively. As a result, the prison governor, Katie Price resigned amidst inspection.
