Yuvraj Singh's long-standing record finally breached as THIS young star scores fastest 50 in T20's for India

Rohit Sharma-led India opened their campaign in the ongoing home ODI World Cup with a comfortable win over five-time winners Australia in match 5 on Sunday (Oct 8) in Chennai. Chasing 200, India were 2 for 3 before Virat Kohli's 85 and KL Rahul's sublime 97* took India home with six wickets, and 52 balls, to spare.

Ahead of India's second game, where they lock horns with Afghanistan in New Delhi on Wednesday (Oct 11), former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh opened up on India's middle-order and made a big claim.

In the last World Cup, held in England and Wales in 2019, there was immense talk on India's middle-order -- especially who will bat at No. 4. Their shaky middle and lower order resulted in their semi-final loss versus New Zealand.

This time around, India had a lot of time finalising their middle order (due to several injuries) but now have a settled line-up.

However, Yuvraj feels Kohli and Rahul have handled the bulk of scoring as No. 6 and No. 7 have not been tested yet.

Responding to WION during a presser in the national capital on Tuesday (Oct 10), Yuvi said on the middle-order, "I thought they were playing well in 2019 but pressure came in the big game (in the semi-finals). Pressure will come in big games only."

He opined, "I don't think the middle order has been tested properly so far. Virat bats at 3 and KL bats at 5. Batting hasn't come at 6 and 7. So others have not been tested. We need to absorb the pressure really well."

Later in the event, Yuvraj was asked by a fan who could replicate his CWC '11 performance, where he ended as the Player of the Tournament, and win the big prize this time around. To this, the veteran named Ravindra Jadeja.

While the superstar cricketer named Rohit, Kohli, Shubman Gill (who is currently unwell) and Hardik Pandya as well, he finally went with Jadeja.

Yuvraj feels Jadeja's spin will be handy, which was the case versus Australia where he ended with 3 for 28. Jadeja's batting lower down the order will also be crucial to India's chances.

Former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh has criticised Shreyas Iyer for getting out on a reckless shot against Australia during the ODI World Cup 2023 match in Chennai on October 8. India were two down for two runs when Iyer came to bat and lasted just three balls before getting out.

ODI World Cup 2023: 'Don’t understand why...,' Yuvraj criticises Shreyas Iyer for reckless shot vs Australia

Rohit Sharma became India's full-time captain early in 2022. Thus, captaincy came very late for Rohit. Back then, he was 34 and just a few months away from turning 35. Ahead of the CWC 2023 edition, which kicks off in India on October 5 (Thursday), the Indian captain Rohit expressed his gratitude for leading India across formats as he believes many big names missed out on becoming the national side's skipper in the past.

When India last hosted the ODI World Cup, along with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2011, MS Dhoni-led Men in Blue won the coveted title (for the second time overall in the country's rich cricketing history). Back then, Rohit was not even part of the World Cup squad. In the current scenario, Hitman will be leading India in the mega event where the hosts' campaign starts on October 8, facing Australia in Chennai.

Since taking over as India's captain, Rohit has had mixed results -- with a semi-final exit in 2022 T20 World Cup, WTC final loss and Asia Cup title last month. Thus, the 36-year-old will be eager to help India lift the 50-over World Cup once again and leave an impact as a captain. Ahead of his stint as captain in the marquee event, Rohit acknowledged the role and responsibility given to him, mentioning that some superstar players such as Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, etc. did not have the luxury to lead despite having stellar careers.

Talking to the Indian Express, Rohit said, "Obviously, you want to be at your peak for this, say when you are 26-27. But you cannot always get what you want. You are talking about the Indian captaincy and there have been stalwarts in the Indian team. Many more players deserved to be the captain of the team. I had to wait for my turn and that's absolutely fair enough. The guys before, Virat was before me, so was MS (Dhoni)."

'Yuvraj has been such a match winner for India, he should have been the captain'

"Just look at the names that missed out: Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag … these are all stalwarts of Indian cricket. Not to forget Yuvraj Singh. He never captained India. Yuvraj has been such a match winner for India, he should have been the captain at some stage but he didn’t get it. That's life. I got it now and I am grateful for it. I would rather have it when I know how to captain a team, when I know what is required and all. Rather than when I don’t know the ABCD of captaincy. So in that respect, this is good," Hitman added.

Rohit will look to create a legacy by helping India win the upcoming ODI World Cup at home, on November 19. This will be his third World Cup, and last in all likelihood, hence, he will be desperate to leave on a high.

The guys before, Virat was before me, so was MS (Dhoni)." × Also read: No Pakistan! Former India captain Sourav Ganguly predicts CWC 2023 semi-finalists 'Yuvraj has been such a match winner for India, he should have been the captain' "Just look at the names that missed out: Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag … these are all stalwarts of Indian cricket. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. 'Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj missed out': Rohit opines on his captaincy, 'grateful' to lead India in CWC '23

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 gets underway on October 5 with defending champions England taking on New Zealand in Ahmedabad. Ahead of the tournament-opener, many former cricketers and experts have shared their predictions for the upcoming marquee event in India. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has also made a bold claim by stating that the World Cup could belong to India's in-form batter Shubman Gill.

Shubman has been in exceptional form in 2023, especially in the ODI format. He has so far scored 1,230 runs in 20 innings along with as many as five centuries. Overall, he is the No. 2 ranked ODI batter (after Babar Azam) and ended as the Player-of-the-Series in the recent India-Australia ODIs, at home. Thus, all eyes are on the 24-year-old as one waits to see how he will respond to the World Cup pressure.

Chopra believes Gill will do exceptionally well and this could be his World Cup, with at least two or three hundreds.

'Gill is a quality player and this World Cup could be his'

On his YouTube channel, Chopra said, "This tournament could be Shubman Gill’s. In all fairness, the tournament will belong to the top three batters. The good ones will make a lot of records. Shubman Gill will score a lot of runs. I feel he will score at least two hundreds; I won’t be surprised if he hits three as well. One of them could be a daddy hundred if he doesn’t get tired. Gill is a quality player and this World Cup could be his."

CWC '23 could belong to THIS Indian batter: Aakash Chopra's bold claim, says 'he will score at least...'

Shubman Gill has been in exceptional form in 2023. The right-hander has had a dream run across formats, slamming his maiden T20I ton as well, but his form in ODIs made heads turn. The opener has so far slammed as many as five centuries this year and enters the forthcoming ODI World Cup as the No. 2 ranked batter in ICC ODI Rankings. The star opener ended as the Player-of-the-Series in India's three ODIs versus Australia, which ended on Wednesday (September 27), and will start the 50-over mega event on a positive note.

Shubman Gill has potential to become best player of this generation: Yuvraj Singh's BIG claim ahead of CWC '23

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has backed KL Rahul to bat at No. 4 during the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup at home. Rahul has been in superb form ever since he returned to international cricket during Asia Cup 2023 following a lengthy injury layoff. He scored a brilliant 111 not out versus Pakistan in the Super Four round, followed by a vital 39 versus Sri Lanka. In the recently-concluded India-Australia ODIs, Rahul returned with 58 not out, 52 and 26. He has batted at No. 4 in four out of the last seven games and Yuvraj has backed him to bat at the crucial spot in the mega event.

Speaking to the Week, Yuvraj suggested that India should make Rahul bat at No. 4 and give him 15-20 games at that position. “India want K.L. Rahul to bat at No. 4 now. They have to give him 15-20 games in that position. In the Asia Cup, coming back from injury, he scored a 100. On a spinning track [in Colombo, against Sri Lanka] he scored a vital 39 runs. He is looking good right now, so they need to stick with him at No. 4," the 2011 ODI World Cup winner said.

Yuvraj highlighted the important of the No. 4 spot, which has been India's Achilles heel since the last edition of the 50-over World Cup. He added, "No. 4 is a crucial position, especially if the openers get out cheaply. No. 4 batsman needs to have the technique to leave the ball, play the short ball well, and try and build partnerships.”

The 41-year-old batted at No. 4 in 108 matches during his illustrious career and understands the importance of the position. Speaking about India's batting order, it might be tough for Rahul to bat at No. 4 as Shreyas Iyer has been looked upon to fulfill the role at the said spot. Rahul, meanwhile, will most likely bat at No. 5 throughout the upcoming ODI World Cup. He has fared brilliantly at No. 4 and 5.

At No. 4, Rahul averages an exceptional 60 and 50 at No. 5. Such has been his performance at both the positions that he effortlessly fits in the middle-order. Thus, he will be an important player for India in the upcoming showpiece event.

World Cup 2023: India need to stick with KL Rahul at No. 4, feels 2011 WC winner Yuvraj Singh

Rohit Sharma-led India is gearing up for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023, which gets underway on October 5 in Ahmedabad. India will look to win the coveted trophy for the third time, second as hosts. In the 2011 ODI World Cup, MS Dhoni-led Men in Blue had a memorable campaign as they beat Sri Lanka, who were also the co-hosts, in the final to win by six wickets at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 2. However, it wasn't a smooth run for Team India, who didn't win it easy versus the Netherlands and Ireland and lost to South Africa in the group stage.

India started the tournament by beating Bangladesh convincingly in the tournament-opener, played a tied game versus England, won against Ireland and the Netherlands but not comprehensively, and lost a close game versus South Africa before getting on a winning streak to eventually lift the coveted title. Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, who ended as the Player-of-the-Series with 362 runs and 15 wickets, recalled Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar's advice after Dhoni & Co.'s three-wicket loss to the Proteas, in Nagpur, defending 297.

As quoted by Hindustan Times, Yuvraj said, "Now, distraction is a bit more because that time there was no social media. There was distraction with media and people. We were trying to focus on the game, and in the world cup, we had lost to South Africa - a game we should have won. The media started to go berserk. Sachin sat down with the team and said, 'we need to stop watching television, stop reading the papers. Use our headphones when we are going through crowds in airports. Just focus on the world cup'. The team agreed, we just followed that and it really worked."

He added, "Because there's anyway so much pressure. Problem with India is that, people think only the Indian team will win. It's a big World Cup, there are so many good teams out there, and we got to be really focussed on your tasks at hand."

'We need to stop...': Yuvraj Singh recalls Sachin Tendulkar's advice after SA loss during CWC '11

During the rain break of the India-Pakistan Super 4 Asia Cup clash, on Sunday (September 10), former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar stated that Indian all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are not in the same league as Yuvraj Singh. Manjrekar's statements came following former Pakistan speedster Waqar Younis' words of praise for Hardik and Jadeja.

"Look at what Hardik and Jadeja bring to the table. They are well equipped with both bat and ball. Especially Hardik Pandya - the way he batted against Pakistan - I think he is a really destructive batter at No. 6. Any team would love to have someone like him. He is aggressive, and now as we saw in the previous match, he is very sensitive and smart," Younis told Star Sports.

In response, Manjrekar stated that Yuvraj was on another level, referring to him as "India's best white-ball batter". In this regard, he commented, "Yuvraj is arguably India's best white-ball batter. He could win games and was in a different league. Hardik and Jadeja, with due respect, aren't quite there. These two are far better bowlers than Yuvraj Singh, but because of that, one discipline was so disciplined."

Talking about Yuvraj, he ended as one of India's finest white-ball cricketers, ending with over 8,500 ODI runs and was a key player in India's victorious campaigns in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup.

Asia Cup: Yuvraj was in a different league, Hardik & Jadeja aren't quite there, claims Manjrekar

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has said that India can't do without Ravindra Jadeja at ICC ODI World Cup. The former batter, however, said that it won't be fair to compare Jadeja to Yuvraj Singh. Notably, Singh had played a pivotal role when India last won the ICC World Cup in 2011 and had won Player of the Series award.

"There is a very good chance, it’s almost a certainty that he will play all the World Cup matches. India can’t do without him. Axar Patel will be there in the reserves but Jadeja will be the first-choice spin-bowling all-rounder. If the pitch is rough, if you have got a quality opposition, he will finish in 10 overs," Manjrekar told Star Sports.

“But the batting all-rounder we had in 2011, Yuvraj Singh. It's not fair to compare his batting with Jadeja. So I see him more as a bowling all-rounder with somebody who can be a threat at No. 7 or No.8. His white-ball career has changed completely in the last few years,” said Manjrekar.

That's a best indicator of how good a bowler you are. All you have to do is see how many times you bowl your 10 overs. That's something that you get with Jadeja now. He is a much-improved white-ball cricketer, which he was not 3- years before that," Manjrekar added.

Jadeja has been included in the 15-man squad announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on September 5. Axar Patel also features in the side alongside Jadeja.

'Ravindra Jadeja no Yuvraj but India can't do without him at ODI world cup,' says Sanjay Manjrekar

Rohit Sharma-led India are gearing up for a litmus test in the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 edition, to be hosted jointly by Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The continental tournament gets underway on August 30 with Pakistan hosting Nepal in Multan whereas the Men in Blue will open their campaign versus arch-rivals Babar Azam-led Men in Green on September 02 in Pallekele in the Island nation.

The Asia Cup holds a lot of significance as it will soon be followed by the 50-over ODI World Cup on home soil, which starts on October on 05 in Ahmedabad. Thus, the upcoming two multi-nation events will certainly define Rohit's captaincy tenure.

While India have a strong squad for the Asia Cup, Rohit-led Indian team management have a lot of decisions to make. The comeback duo, KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer will be closely monitored in the Asia Cup and their run will help the team decide whether to include them in the CWC '23 edition or not. Furthermore, it will be interesting to see if Yuzvendra Chahal makes the cut in the World Cup squad, having been overlooked for the Asia Cup.

Recently, Rohit stated that it's not about his favourite or coach Rahul Dravid's favourite to be in the squad but to get the players who will fit the conditions and team combination. Speaking to PTI, Hitman said, "Me, coaches, and selectors, take into account all factors like opposition, surfaces, our strengths, their weaknesses, and then reach a common ground. There is every chance that we will not be perfect always. At the end of the day, few individuals make decisions, and we are bound to make mistakes as humans. We won't always be right."

Hitman further opined, "'We have tried to communicate with the players after every selection and playing XI that has been announced. We talk to them face to face, one-on-one why they have not been picked. Sometimes, I try and put myself in their shoes. When I wasn't picked in 2011, it was such a heart-breaking moment for me and I felt what was left after being dropped from a World Cup squad?"

'The best thing is....': Indian captain Rohit Sharma recalls Yuvraj Singh's words after CWC '11 snub

Rohit Sharma-led India will start their campaign in the 50-over World Cup on October 08, in Chennai, when they play Australia. India is hosting the forthcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, which gets underway on October 05 in Ahmedabad. Rohit & Co. have a herculean task to end India's ten-year-long ICC title drought and replicate MS Dhoni-led India's historic run in the 2011 edition when they won the coveted title after 28 years.

Recently, former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir -- who played a pivotal role in Dhoni-led India's title run in 2011 -- schooled the social media users for being individual-obsessed as they don't give the entire Indian team enough credit for the championship win on home soil. During a freewheeling chat with RevSportz, Gambhir said, "Do we celebrate Yuvraj Singh enough for what he did in the 2011 World Cup with all the health concerns he had? Do we celebrate Zaheer Khan’s opening spell enough? To start off a World Cup final with four maiden overs is incredible, and yet he isn’t given enough credit."

"Do we celebrate Sachin Tendulkar’s efforts enough? Yes, we celebrate him and the win, but how many remember he was the highest scorer in the World Cup with two hundreds to his name? Do we celebrate Harbhajan Singh’s spell against Pakistan in Mohali, or Suresh Raina’s innings against Australia in Ahmedabad and Pakistan in Mohali? Both these innings were match-winning efforts," Gambhir further stated.

'While we celebrate MS Dhoni’s innings, we should celebrate these other efforts too'

Gambhir schooled the social media fans and pointed out their individual obsession and added, "While we celebrate MS Dhoni’s innings in the final, we should celebrate these other efforts as much. Not one innings could win India the trophy. It was a collective effort, and should be celebrated as such. It is because of social media that we don’t do it. Social media is biased and we all know that."

"But social media doesn’t make it the truth. There is always a tendency on social media to celebrate individuals more than the team. In doing so, what happens is we don’t celebrate key performers who had as much a part to play. And that’s an issue for sure. All I will say is we should celebrate the entire team. While we celebrate Dhoni, we should also celebrate the others who all played very important roles in the Indian win," he concluded.

Talking about the CWC '11 edition, India beat teams such as Australia, Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka (in the final), etc. to win the championship at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 02. Tendulkar, Sehwag, Gambhir, Yuvraj (Player-of-the-Series), Virat Kohli and Raina played a solid part with the bat whereas Zaheer Khan, R Ashwin, Munaf Patel, Ashish Nehra, etc. also had an important part to play with the ball. Dhoni, who struggled throughout the tournament with the bat, saved his best for the summit clash as he came up with a match-winning 91 not out in India's chase of 272 versus the Islanders.

Gambhir recalls Dhoni's CWC '11 final knock, schools social media users for being individual-obsessed

India's middle-order woes know no end. In the run-up to the 2019 ODI World Cup, the Virat Kohli-led Indian team auditioned several batters to take up the No. 4 slot. While Ambati Rayudu looked confirmed for the slot, Vijay Shankar got the nod ahead of the former. In the World Cup, India struggled to fix the No. 4 position, but Shankar and Shikhar Dhawan's injuries added to their woes, and the Men in Blue bowed out in the semi-finals of the mega event. Post the 50-over ICC event, India had almost finalised Shreyas Iyer for the No. 4 slot whereas KL Rahul raised his stocks at No. 5, but injuries to the duo didn't solve Rohit Sharma-led India's problems.

Ahead of the Asia Cup, the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selectors announced a strong 17-man India squad for the continental tournament which includes both Rahul and Iyer. Both the batters have been deemed fit, although Rahul is carrying a niggle, and the two will get much-needed game time as India gear up for the Asia Cup, to be followed by the ODI World Cup at home. Before the Asia Cup, which commences on August 30, India's veteran spinner R Ashwin lauded Rahul and feels he has filled the No. 5 slot with expertise ever since Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni retired. During their playing days, Yuvi and Dhoni formed a lethal batting pair, often handling the No. 4 and 5 spot respectively, and bailed India out of crisis several times.

On his YouTube channel, Ashwin said, "Ever since Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni retired, India were desperately looking for a replacement. Rahul has filled that slot with expertise. He is a definite lock at No. 5 and is also our wicketkeeper-batsman."

According to Ashwin, Iyer and Rahul will take up the No. 4 and 5 spot, respectively, if fit, for the upcoming two mega events (Asia Cup and ODI WC). Both have proven their worth batting in the middle order with the best numbers since the 2019 ODI WC, but will be eager to get some match practice and runs under their belt in the upcoming month before the 50-over World Cup kicks off.

5 and is also our wicketkeeper-batsman." Also read: 'No white-ball spinner better than him in India': Harbhajan on Chahal's Asia Cup snub, backs him for CWC '23 According to Ashwin, Iyer and Rahul will take up the No. Saiyami Kher took notes from this cricketer to prepare for her role in Ghoomer

Indian captain Rohit Sharma admitted to Team India's No. 4 issues ahead of the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup, at home. According to Hitman, no player has stepped up and made the No. 4 spot his own after Yuvraj Singh. It is to be noted that India auditioned several batters at the No. 4 spot prior to the 2019 ODI World Cup as well. Post the 50-over showpiece event, Shreyas Iyer took over the mantle and achieved considerable success before his back injury resurfaced to dent his run. Iyer has been away from international cricket since early 2022.

To add to India's injury concerns, KL Rahul -- who bats at No. 5 -- is also out of action due to a hip injury, which he suffered during IPL 2023. In Rahul and Iyer's absence, Rohit-led India have backed the likes of Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, etc. as their middle order remains a cause of worry ahead of the upcoming home ODI World Cup, which kicks off in India on October 05.

But, for a long period of time, Shreyas (Iyer) has actually batted at No. 4 and he has done well - his numbers are really good."

'After Yuvraj Singh, nobody has....': Rohit admits to India's No. 4 issues ahead of Asia Cup, ODI World Cup

From Rohit Sharma to Hardik Pandya: Top six Indian batters with most T20I sixes

Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh isn't much optimistic of Team India's chances in the forthcoming home ODI World Cup, which kicks off on October 5 between England and New Zealand. The 2011 ODI World Cup winner raised his concerns over India's unprepared middle order and feels if the likes of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are not fit in time, India might struggle in the marquee tournament, especially in high-pressure games.

'I see a lot of concerns'

Yuvraj said on the Cricket Basu YouTube channel, "I can be a patriot and say 'India will win because I am an Indian.' But I see a lot of concerns in the Indian middle order because of injuries. If those concerns are not resolved, we will struggle, especially in pressure games. Don't experiment in pressure games. The skill work to bat in the middle order is very different from that of an opener. Is there anybody there (in the team management) who is working around the guys that will be playing in the middle order? That's the question mark – the middle order is not ready, so someone will have to make them ready."

Yuvraj emphasised on the role of middle-order batters and added, "If your openers are out early, you need to build a partnership. (Middle order) batsmen are not simply flamboyant stroke-makers that occupy the crease and start hitting. He has to absorb pressure, leave a few balls, and create a partnership. It's a difficult job, somebody has to be experienced over there."

The 41-year-old former cricketer was one of the top performers for India in the CWC '11 edition, held in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Under MS Dhoni, India won the final beating Sri Lanka by six wickets and Yuvraj ended as the Player-of-the-Tournament with 362 runs and 15 scalps overall.

Talking about Rohit-led India, the Men in Blue are running against time to finalise their squad for the mega event, with Rahul and Iyer on the cusp of full recovery. India will open their campaign in the home ODI WC versus five-time winners Australia, in Chennai, on October 08.

Yuvraj Singh sends best wishes to Stuart Broad on retirement, calls him one of most feared red-ball bowlers

Veteran England seamer Stuart Broad will retire from international cricket after the end of the ongoing fifth Ashes Test in London, he announced after day three play at The Oval. While recalling both top and low moments from his illustrious career, Broad shed light on one incident that changed his perception of evolving as a professional cricketer and life. And that was none other than him getting hit for six sixes by India's Yuvraj Singh during the 2007 T20 World Cup game in Durban.

Facing each other at the Kingsmead, India batted first and following a stellar start came a point that changed T20 cricket forever. Yuvraj Singh slammed young Broad for six sixes in an over - a first in T20I cricket. Though that moment brought laurels to the attacking left-hander and India as Men in Blue went on to win the maiden T20 WC, Broad had to cope with certain pressure - something he feels changed him.

While recalling the incident, Broad said though he still wishes it had not happened, it went on to make him the bowler he is today.

"Yeah, it was obviously a pretty tough day, what would I have been, 21, 22? I learned a lot; I pretty much based a whole mental routine through that experience, knowing that I was left very short as an international performer. I'd rushed my preparation, I didn't have any pre-ball routine, I didn't have any focus," Broad told Sky Sports after announcing his retirement decision.

Record-holder Broad leads England charge in final Test

Broad, in this series only, picked his 600th Test wicket and became only the second bowler after compatriot James Anderson to achieve this feat. So far, with 20 scalps, Broad is second to Mitchell Starc as the leading wicket-taker in the 2023 Ashes.

Defending 384 against Australia in the final innings, Broad would like to help his team win the match, levelling the series 2-2 and walking away with his head high.

What really helped me was that it was a dead rubber, so I didn't feel like I'd knocked us out of the World Cup. But I think it steeled me up to make me the competitor I am to this day and has driven me forward a huge amount," Broad added. Record-holder Broad leads England charge in final Test Broad, in this series only, picked his 600th Test wicket and became only the second bowler after compatriot James Anderson to achieve this feat. So far, with 20 scalps, Broad is second to Mitchell Starc as the leading wicket-taker in the 2023 Ashes. Defending 384 against Australia in the final innings, Broad would like to help his team win the match, levelling the series 2-2 and walking away with his head high. WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

In a statement shared by the BCCI, Jay Shah -- the board's Secretary -- said, "The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), consisting of Ms Sulakshana Naik, Mr Ashok Malhotra, and Mr Jatin Paranjape, interviewed applicants for the position of one selector in the Men's Selection Committee. He still holds the record for the fastest half-century by an Indian batter in ODI, achieved with a 21-ball fifty against Zimbabwe in 2000. He also held the record for being the fastest to reach 50 ODI wickets for nearly a decade, accomplishing the milestone in just 23 matches.

Following his playing career, he was appointed as the Chief Selector for the senior Mumbai Team and undertook coaching responsibilities with the Delhi Capitals. The committee further recommended Mr Agarkar for the role of Chairperson of the Men’s Selection Committee based on seniority (total number of Test matches)," the statement read.

Agarkar's career spanned from 1998-2007. He was part of MS Dhoni-led India's 2007 T20 World Cup winning campaign. To date, the Mumbaikar holds the record for the fastest half-century by an India in ODIs (courtesy of his 21-ball fifty versus Zimbabwe in 2000). Yuvraj Singh reacts as Ajit Agarkar becomes BCCI chief selector, backs him to shape Indian cricket's future

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir is known for his blunt statements and remarks. The former batsman has come up with one more such statement where he said that Yuvraj Singh was the real hero of India's triumph in the 2007 T20 and 2011 World Cups instead of a 'certain individual' whose PR firm has made him famous.

“He (Yuvraj) always says I won the World Cup but I believe that the man who took us to the finals of the 2011 and 2007 World Cups was Yuvraj Singh, I think he was the man of the tournament in both tournaments,” Gambhir told to new outlet News18.

“I am not sure (Yuvraj did win Man of the Tournament in 2011, Shahid Afridi won it in the 2007 T20 World Cup). But it’s unfortunate that when we talk about the 2007 and 2011 World Cups, we don’t take Yuvraj Singh’s name. Why not? It’s only and only marketing and PR and portraying one individual as the biggest and everyone else as smaller than him,” Gambhir said.

Gambhir's mention of 'one individual' alludes to MS Dhoni who has been widely credited with the victory of India's two ICC silverware. Notably, it was Gambhir himself who was the highest individual scorer for India in the final of both World Cups. He scored 75 in the 2007 T20 WC against Pakistan and 97 in the 2011 ODI WC against Sri Lanka.

As for Yuvraj Singh, the southpaw had etched his name in history after hitting England's Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over in the 2007 WC. He had also scored a crucial 70 off just 30 balls in the semi-final against Australia. In the 2011 ODI World Cup, Singh won the Man of the Tournament award for his 362 runs and 15 wickets in the tournament.

“No one is underrated, it’s all PR and marketing. We have been told who won us the 2007 and 2011 World Cups [but] it was not one individual it was the entire team. No one individual can win a big tournament. If that was the case, India would’ve had 5-10 World Cups,” Gambhir further added.

Gautam Gambhir terms Yuvraj Singh as India's hero of 2007 & 2011 World Cup wins

MS Dhoni is currently involved in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 edition. He is leading the four-time champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who picked their third win of the season -- after five games -- as they emerged on top of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in match 24, in Bengaluru, on Monday evening (April 17). It is believed that this is the last IPL season for Dhoni although the 41-year-old has not given any clarity on his future.

Dhoni remains a huge name in world cricket. He retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, putting an end to his illustrious career with 17,266 runs, 634 catches, 359 sixes, 195 stumpings and having led India to all three major ICC titles. He led India to the 2007 T20 World Cup title but the Men in Blue faced an early exit in the following edition, in England, in 2009. After India's three-run loss to hosts England in their second game of the Super Eight round, at Lord's London, the then skipper Dhoni apologised to the Indian fans for their dismal show.

"We are more disappointed (than you) and we respect the emotions of our fans and the country. We are sorry for whatever happened. We gave our best and we say that with an open heart, we have nothing to hide. IPL 2023: From Mumbai Indians' 1,408 to Gujarat Titans' 79 - Most sixes hit by existing teams in mega event

A lot has been said and written about KL Rahul of late. While he hasn't featured for India in the shortest format after the T20 World Cup and his form in red-ball format led to a huge war of words between Venkatesh Prasad and Aakash Chopra, the right-hander is on a roll as an ODI batter. In the ongoing India-Australia ODIs, the wicketkeeper-batter struck a magnificent 75 not out in the series opener, helping the Men in Blue win by five wickets.

Ever since Rahul has been given the task to bat at No. 5 in ODIs, the 30-year-old has come to his own. He has played 18 innings at No. 5, slamming 742 runs with one hundred and seven fifties at an average of 53.00. Thus, India's veteran off-spinner R Ashwin shunned Rahul's critics and lauded him for performing a tough role with ease. In addition, he compared him with MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh, two of India's finest middle-order batters in white-ball formats.

"Consider everyone who is currently batting at No.5 in ODI cricket. There isn't even one cricketer at the moment who bats at No 5 and has made a mark for himself. Because it is a very tough position to bat. Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni were the only two guys who batted mostly at 5 in ODIs and made a mark for themselves. Dhoni mostly batted at 6 though. For Australia, it was Michael Bevan. It is not at all easy to bat in that number in ODIs," said Ashwin on his Youtube channel.

The 36-year-old Test specialist further asserted, "If people we like do something good and get trending on Twitter then we will start worshipping and celebrating them like anything but if they are going through a bad patch, we will not celebrate their value or the magnitude of what they are doing. KL Rahul is doing a very difficult role with ease. He has been a proper box-office in ODIs. He has got phenomenal numbers batting at No.5. GO and search if you can find anyone even close to him in terms of numbers in ODIs."

'The champion is...: Yuvraj Singh meets Rishabh Pant, shares heartfelt post for star player

Yuvraj Singh represented India in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is. He is regarded as one of the greatest white-ball all-rounders in world cricket. He was India's hero during their title run in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup. However, former Sri Lanka player Russell Arnold has made a shocking claim about the ex-Indian cricketer. Arnold compared both Yuvraj and MS Dhoni -- two of India's greatest middle-order batters -- and feels the former wasn't good at absorbing pressure.

During a conversation with former Indian cricket WV Raman, Arnold made the glaring remark. While discussing Dhoni and Yuvraj, the Sri Lankan opined that Dhoni was more adept in playing both defensively and aggressively as per the situation.

"He could play both roles, there are very few who could do that. Both roles meant that when he needed to absorb pressure, he could do it. That was my strength, but I could hit a boundary now and then but not consistently score 15 runs or more. You give me eight to 10 (runs to score in an over), and I'll back myself. But Dhoni would back himself with 15 or 20 on the board and hit those big sixes consistently," Arnold pointed out.

He added, "To be able to play both roles as expertly as he did, he is in a very different league. Not many players can play both those roles. You get players with flamboyance and come close to hitting those boundaries. Like Yuvraj Singh. But Yuvraj could not absorb the pressure when needed and play with his partner the way Dhoni did. Yuvraj had to be the boss to be extravagant and express himself. That was when he was at his best. But Dhoni was at his best at both ends of the line. He could be defensive and absorb pressure and throw those punches as well."

Yuvraj and Dhoni are regarded as two of the finest players, especially in limited overs. Both won India innumerable matches with their memorable partnerships and made the Men in Blue one of the strongest sides during their playing days.

It will be interesting to see if Yuvraj responds to Arnold's claims.
