Harbhajan Singh offers an apology

"Just wanted to clear to our people who are complaining about our recent videos of 'Tauba Tauba' on social media after winning the championship here in England. We didn't want to hurt anyone's sentiments. We respect every individual and community and this video was just to reflect on our bodies after playing continuous cricket for 15 days,” Harbhajan wrote on his Instagram.

"SORE bodies. We are not trying to insult or offend anyone. Still, if people think we have done something wrong. All I can say from my side SORRY to everyone. Please let's stop this here and move forward. Stay happy and healthy," he added.

Abhishek Sharma was all over the news for his record-equalling third-fastest T20I hundred for India against Zimbabwe on Sunday (Jul 7) in Harare; however, the mantra to his success is far from what was on display. During a chat on bcci.tv after the game, Abhishek revealed he borrowed Captain Shubman Gill’s bat for this game, and that did wonders for the opener, though not for the first time.

Abhishek and Gill are close friends and have grown up together, having played junior level and Under-19 cricket since. With both playing for India now, Abhishek admitted every time he plays with Gill’s bat, he scores runs. The left-handed batter said this has happened even in the IPL, with his outing in his second India game being the latest example.

Meanwhile, on his debut in the first match, Abhishek got out on a duck but made a stunning comeback with his maiden international hundred in the next.

“This has been going on since Under-14 cricket. Whenever I have played with his bat, I’ve done well. I want to tell everyone that even today (on Sunday), I played with his bat, which wasn’t an easy task. It’s my last option for a comeback. Special thanks to him for lending me his bat on time,” Abhishek said in a video shared by BCCI.

“It had happened in the IPL as well. Today was no exception as it went well as it usually happens,” Abhishek added.

Yuvraj lauds Abhishek

A four-ball duck in the first T20I might be disappointing for Abhishek, but not for his mentor and one of India’s greatest match-winners, Yuvraj Singh. Abhishek said after the first match, he spoke with Yuvraj on the phone, and instead of the India veteran scolding him for playing a careless shot, he lauded his beginning, saying it was a good start to his career.

However, Abhishek credited Yuvraj for putting in the hard work and guiding him to the right path, which led to his India call-up.

“Very proud. Well done. You deserve it. Many more to come. This is just a start,” Yuvraj said to Abhishek as revealed by him.

“I spoke to him yesterday, and he said, I don’t know why, but he was very happy when I was out on zero. He said that’s a good start. I think he must be very proud of me just like my family.

“I am playing at this level because of him. The hard work he has put on me. For the past two-three years he has really worked hard not only on my cricket but even off the field as well,” the 22-year-old added.

ZIM v IND: Harare hero Abhishek Sharma on using Gill’s bat - ‘I score every time when I play with it'

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh penned a heartfelt note for David Warner as the Australian batter brought curtains on his 15-year-long international career. Yuvraj took to his social media handles to share the poignant note and pay tribute to what was a glittering career, filled with individual and team accolades for the Australian.

Warner played his last match in Australian colours against India in the Super 8 stage at the ongoing T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean. He had already said goodbye to the Test and ODI format after playing the series against Pakistan, earlier this year.

“No one likes a quiet goodbye, but that’s the game of life mate. Well done on an incredible career @davidwarner31!" Yuvraj wrote

“From smashing boundaries on the park to nailing Bollywood moves and dialogues, you’ve done it all in true #Warner style. A feared batsman, a lively teammate and a true entertainer on and off the field," he added, sharing pictures of the duo when they shared the field.

"It was a pleasure sharing the dressing room with you buddy. Go well #legend and enjoy your well-deserved time off with the lovely family."

Yuvraj played under Warner's captaincy at SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) from 2016 to 2017. The duo lifted the IPL trophy in 2016 after beating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final.

As opponents, both squared off against each other numerous times but remained on cordial terms off the field.

After Australia's exit from the tournament, tributes poured in from all around the cricketing world for Warner. Legendary Australian captain, Ricky Ponting was one of the first ones to congratulate Warner on his career, adding that the country was yet to find an impact player like him.

"(I) put my arm around him. I said, 'just take a moment tonight to sit back by yourself and reflect on what's been an unbelievable career across all three formats for Australia'" said Ponting.

"We know he retired in the summer from test cricket, but you'll struggle to find a guy that's had as big an impact on all three forms in Australian cricket than David Warner has," he added.

Also read | 'You'll struggle...,' Ex-Australia skipper Ricky Ponting after David Warner's international career ends

Warner's wife, Candice Warner also posted a beautiful message saying it was a privilege to see him play up close. She also presented a fact-sheet about what her husband had achieved on the cricketing pitch.

"Congratulations @davidwarner31 on one of the best international cricket careers we have ever seen for our country. To have had a front-row seat has been a privilege. We will miss seeing you play for Australia but we are so excited to have you home more. Love you." Candice wrote on Instagram.

Well done on an incredible career @davidwarner31!" Yuvraj wrote “From smashing boundaries on the park to nailing Bollywood moves and dialogues, you’ve done it all in true #Warner style. A feared batsman, a lively teammate and a true entertainer on and off the field," he added, sharing pictures of the duo when they shared the field. "It was a pleasure sharing the dressing room with you buddy. Go well #legend and enjoy your well-deserved time off with the lovely family." View this post on Instagram A post shared by Yuvraj Singh (@yuvisofficial) × Yuvraj played under Warner's captaincy at SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) from 2016 to 2017. Also read | 'You'll struggle...,' Ex-Australia skipper Ricky Ponting after David Warner's international career ends Warner's wife, Candice Warner also posted a beautiful message saying it was a privilege to see him play up close. 'No one likes...': Yuvraj Singh pens heartfelt note for David Warner post Australia's T20 WC exit

Rohit Sharma-led India stormed their way into the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals with a 21-run win over Australia in their last Super 8 clash on Monday (June 24) in St Lucia. With this, the Men in Blue kept their winning run intact in the mega event being held in West Indies and the USA.

Ahead of their semifinal clash, where they face defending champions England on Thursday (June 27) in Guyana, former Indian pacer S Sreesanth compared Hardik Pandya with former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh and made a bold claim. Sreesanth feels in-form Hardik can do what Yuvraj did for India in their victorious run in the 2011 ODI World Cup at home, with his all-round abilities.

Hardik has chipped in with 8 wickets and scored 116 crucial runs so far in the showpiece tournament, with skipper Rohit also terming him India's 'key player'.

Sreesanth lauded Hardik and said on Star Sports, after India's win over Australia, "The last conference where he (Rohit Sharma) said Hardik Pandya is a key player in the team. What Yuvraj Singh did in the 2011 as an all-rounder, with bat, with ball and his fielding, I think Hardik is very much capable of doing that in this T20 World Cup. I think none of us will be surprised if Rohit lifts the trophy."

Is World Championship of Legends the next big thing in Cricket?

The New York Strikers, the triumphant international franchise known for their outstanding season in the Abu Dhabi T10 and Legends Cricket Trophy, are slated to resume their journey in the upcoming editions. The Colombo Strikers are also meant to return in the forthcoming LPL 2024 (Lanka Premier League 2024) following the New York Strikers' success in international format. Yuvraj Singh and Daniel Christian, two distinguished members of the Strikers franchise who have participated in international tournaments, shared their thoughts on what they hope to see from the current T20 World Cup.

Speaking on the impact of the current conditions on the T20 World Cup players, Yuvraj Singh, a member of the New York Strikers as well as the ambassador of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, shares, “I don’t think you need much experience for conditions. If you arrive early and adjust to the weather, the players have the required experience.”

In particular, Yuvraj Singh, a legendary cricket player, contributed greatly to the team's outstanding performances. During the Legends Cricket Trophy season 2 finals, Singh displayed flashes of his vintage stroke-making ability for his talented squad to succeed.

Remarking if the current World Cup can cause upsets, Yuvraj Singh shares, “A World Cup is about upsets. We have already seen a few upsets so far so no team can be taken for granted. The Super 8 is going to get interesting now and each team are in with a chance to qualify for the semis.”

Sharing thoughts about the World Cup being held in the United States, New York Strikers esteemed player Daniel Christian shares, “I think it has been a bit of a slow start for a lot of the teams to see. Witnessing the current conditions, the teams present will need to make every effort to perform well.”

“Seeing how everyone is simultaneously adjusting to the game regarding if the ball will spin and if the slow balls will hold up, the environment is incredibly fascinating. On the field, winning with a 200 or a 140 can’t be guaranteed,” remarked Daniel

The New York Superstar Strikers, who made their debut this past year, had an incredible journey as they went out with a full-out power play in the international season. To ensure they consistently delivered on the promise of maintaining an exciting game, some of the greatest legends in history, such as Chadwick Walton, Daniel Christian, Rahul Sharma, and Alviro Petersen, teamed up and leveraged their strengths to power the New York Strikers as the best.

Not to mention legendary cricketers like Babar Azam, who was the world’s best ODI batsman while playing for the Colombo Strikers, have called the New York Strikers his home. After playing in an international league for the first time outside of Pakistan, Babar Azam's fast-bowling century in the Lanka Premier League 2023 will be remembered throughout history.

Sagar Khanna, owner of the New York Strikers franchise, shared his encouragement, saying, "All team squads of the T20 World Cup have the unique ability to create memorable moments both on and off the field. We are looking forward to an outstanding T20 World Cup with exceptional performances from all the teams.”

In an incredible display of strength and persistence, the New York Strikers squad quickly rose to the pinnacle of cricket success, accomplishing unmatched success in an exceptionally short amount of time. Speaking on the impact of the current conditions on the T20 World Cup players, Yuvraj Singh, a member of the New York Strikers as well as the ambassador of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024, shares, “I don’t think you need much experience for conditions. If you arrive early and adjust to the weather, the players have the required experience.” In particular, Yuvraj Singh, a legendary cricket player, contributed greatly to the team's outstanding performances. The Super 8 is going to get interesting now and each team are in with a chance to qualify for the semis.” Sharing thoughts about the World Cup being held in the United States, New York Strikers esteemed player Daniel Christian shares, “I think it has been a bit of a slow start for a lot of the teams to see. Witnessing the current conditions, the teams present will need to make every effort to perform well.” “Seeing how everyone is simultaneously adjusting to the game regarding if the ball will spin and if the slow balls will hold up, the environment is incredibly fascinating. On the field, winning with a 200 or a 140 can’t be guaranteed,” remarked Daniel The New York Superstar Strikers, who made their debut this past year, had an incredible journey as they went out with a full-out power play in the international season.
Ahead of the IPL 2024 edition, which kicks off on March 22 in Chennai, all eyes are on Hardik Pandya who is set to commence his journey as Mumbai Indians (MI) captain. The MI management announced the big news in Dec 2023, after trading Hardik from Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of the mini-auction, that the all-rounder -- who made his IPL debut for MI in IPL 2015 -- will lead the side, replacing Rohit Sharma.

Under Rohit, MI became a force to reckon with; winning all five of their IPL titles in his leadership. He started leading the franchise midway during IPL 2013 and led them to the championship in the same year, winning four more in IPL 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. Before IPL 2024's commencement, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh -- who was also part of MI in IPL 2019 -- stated that he would've given Rohit another season as captain and made Hardik his deputy.

In a video for host broadcasters Star Sports, Yuvraj said, "Rohit Sharma is a 5-time IPL winner as a captain. Removing him is a big decision. I would have gotten someone in, like they brought Hardik (Pandya), but I still would have given Rohit one more season and let Hardik be the vice-captain and see how the whole franchise works."

Cooch Behar Trophy final: Prakhar Chaturvedi smashes Yuvraj Singh’s 24-year-old record with unbeaten 404

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has said veteran off-spinner Ravi Ashwin doesn't deserve a place in the white-ball cricket team. Yuvraj's statement comes as India is preparing for the T20 World Cup scheduled to be played in June later this year in the USA and West Indies. Notably, Ashwin was part of India's ODI World Cup 2023 squad but managed to play only one game, that is, against Australia in Chennai.

"Ashwin is a great bowler but I don't think he deserves a place in ODIs and T20s," said Yuvraj to media outlet Times of India. The retired all-rounder further expanded on his views and reasoned that the spinner doesn't offer anything with bat or fielding to get a place in the white-ball team.

Little Master Sunil Gavaskar lauded youngster Rinku Singh ahead of the start of India's all-format tour of South Africa. Gavaskar feels Rinku has grabbed the opportunities that came his way in the Indian Premier League (IPL), playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and the 26-year-old has done reasonably well in the limited chances given in T20Is. Ahead of Suryakumar Yadav-led India's three T20Is versus South Africa, in the African nation, Gavaskar stated that Rinku is being looked up on as the next 'Yuvraj Singh' and expectations are sky high from the left-hander.

Gavaskar hailed Rinku's self-belief while talking on Star Sports and said, "Talent - it's not given to everybody. You can love the game. You can play all day, but sometimes you know you might not quite have the talent, but he has the belief that he could do it, and that's what he's done over the last 2-3 years. Again here in the IPL, he was in and out of a lot of teams when he finally got the opportunity and the way he grabbed it (was amazing)."

In addition, Gavaskar stated that Indian fans are already comparing Rinku's ability with Yuvraj, who is one of the legendary Indian cricketers in white-ball formats. The former Indian opener believes that if Rinku can do even a 'fraction of what Yuvraj did', he will have done wonderfully well.

He added, "And now he's part of an India team. And now there's so much, so many high expectations of them. They are now expecting him to be another Yuvraj Singh. Rinku Singh - Yuvraj Singh. So if you can do even a fraction of what Yuvraj did for Indian cricket, then he will have done wonderfully well."

It is to be noted that the Player-of-the-Tournament started from the 1992 edition only. Another interesting aspect is that four out of eight times the player who has won the award is not from the winning team (Crowe, Klusener, Tendulkar and Williamson).

So far, only two Indians have won the coveted prize; i.e. Tendulkar (2003) and Yuvraj (2011).
