Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Shivam Dube is making headlines with his big hitting prowess in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The left-hander now has received the backing of former players including Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh to be in India's T20 World Cup squad. Notably, ICC T20 WC is scheduled to be played right after the IPL.
After Dube scored 24-ball 45 in CSK's last match against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), Yuvraj Singh tweeted: “Good to watch @IamShivamDube clearing the field with ease !! I feel he has to be in the World Cup squad. Has got the skill to be the #gamechanger #CSKvsSRH #IPLT20.”

Speaking on the same to cricket website Cricbuzz, Sehwag said: “I said before the match that the way Shivam Dube has been playing, his ticket should be confirmed for the T20 World Cup. He has put a lot of pressure on players like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul and now they have to score consistent runs to make the World Cup squad. Take the players who are in-form.”
In the ongoing IPL season, Dube has hit 148 runs in four matches at an average of 49.33 and a belligerent strike rate of 160. The lanky batter has also hit 10 sixes so far, the most for CSK in the season at the moment.
CSK have also reaped the rewards of Dube's form - winning two of their four matches to amass four points for the third spot on the points table.
As for the match against SRH, CSK were nicely placed at 119/3 in 13.4 overs despite Dube's dismissal. In the next 6.2 overs, however, they could manage only 46 runs and posted a below par total of 165/6 in 20 overs.
SRH, in reply, got to a flyer while chasing a modest 166. It was Abhishek Sharma's innings of 37 in 12 balls which eventually proved helpful as SRH chased down the target in 18.1 overs with six wickets in hand.
