Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh has formally apologised after landing in a controversy for a video posted on his social media handle on Monday (Jul15). Harbhajan, who helped India champs win the inaugural season of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) had posted a video of him limping on the soundtrack of the popular Bollywood number 'Tauba Tauba' but was met with angry reactions. Harbhajan was joined by former teammates and 2011 ODI World Cup members Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh in the video posted on Sunday.
"Just wanted to clear to our people who are complaining about our recent videos of 'Tauba Tauba' on social media after winning the championship here in England. We didn't want to hurt anyone's sentiments. We respect every individual and community and this video was just to reflect on our bodies after playing continuous cricket for 15 days,” Harbhajan wrote on his Instagram.
"SORE bodies. We are not trying to insult or offend anyone. Still, if people think we have done something wrong. All I can say from my side SORRY to everyone. Please let's stop this here and move forward. Stay happy and healthy," he added.
After India Champions won the WCL 2024, Harbhajan on his Instagram handle posted a video of him along with Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina where they would act like differently-abled players. However, the video celebration did not go well with everyone from the Indian society and Harbhajan was caught cold and criticised for his actions.
A police complaint was filed by Arman Ali, the executive director of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), against the three cricketers. The head of Differently Abled Cricket Council of India (DCCI) Ravi Chauhan revealed that he had a conversation with Harbhajan and spoke to him on how the video is hurting the people.
