Warner, who prepares ahead of the second WTC Final, scheduled to begin at the Oval on June 7th, feels though it’s great reward for the two best teams to play for the coveted trophy at a neutral venue if the contest is played across three games, it would be fair to both.</p>

<p>Warner said both teams – India and Australia have world-class bowling attacks, and with the new duke balls at display, it’s always an exciting contest.</p>

<p>Speaking on the sidelines of Australia’s training session in Beckenham, where Warner suffered a blow to his arm a couple of days ago, the left-handed batter said,</p>

<p>"I think it's great. I have been - I won't say critical - but I do think it should be at least a three-game series with Test cricket only. You play two years of good cricket, then you play on a neutral venue against an opposition. We've all played here before but [this game is] not against the same [host] nation,” Warner said.</p>

<p>"It's a great reward for the two best teams. Two world-class bowling attacks bowling with a Dukes ball on foreign land. It's great, and we're excited for that," the veteran Aussie batter added.</p>

<h2>Warner avoids injury scare</h2>

<p>David Warner, who earlier on Saturday announced that next year’s SCG Test against Pakistan, will be his last in the white jersey, got hit on the left elbow in the lead-up to the WTC Final. It was the same area where he got hit by Mohammed Siraj’s delivery during the Delhi Test. That blow resulted in a hairline fracture, and missed the remainder of the tour.</p>

<p>Talking about the latest blow, Warner said it is a bit sore for now, but it feels better, and by the time the WTC Final starts, he should be good to go.</p>

<p>"It was sore, it got me right on the same point from a different angle," Warner said. "It went numb, had to get it strapped. It's fine now, a little bit sore. Luckily it didn't hit me on top.</p>

<p>"The last one hit from above and had a hairline fracture. This one was a straight blow on the corner of the elbow which was quite sore. Just one of those things, you get hit, you get hit, can't do anything about it," he added.</p>

For me, then I have to play the IPL, some of the other franchise leagues and then get into the rhythm to play that, in June. Will be a bit of cricket around to play," he added.</p>

<p>Warner is one of the best Test openers of all time with 8,158 runs to his name in 103 matches with 25 hundreds and an average of 45.57. The player, however, has been in a rut with just two fifties and a hundred in last 24 innings since 2022.<br />

<p>“Personally enjoyed playing for CSK as I have been batting well throughout the season, even before IPL. I had a very good domestic season and I felt good. So this comeback was a bit emotional for me,” said the India batter.</p>

<p>“It was (an) emotional moment for me. When I got dropped, the support I got from my family was massive and dream was to play for India and that was massive. Playing for India matters a lot for me and I worked hard on my fitness and went back to domestic cricket.</p>

<p>“I want to bat with the same mindset and show same intent that I showed before coming here in IPL and Ranji Trophy. I would not like to think about format whether it is T20 or Tests. The way I am batting now, I don’t want to complicate things and the more I keep it simple, better it is for me,” he further added.</p>

<p>Rahane would also be looking to achieve the 5K Test-run milestone as he currently stands 69 runs short at 4,931 runs in 82 Tests at an average of 38.52.</p>

<p>Australia have two major Test series/match awaiting them - the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against India and the Ashes against England. The WTC Final is scheduled to be played in England from June 7 and Aussie skipper Pat Cummins is fully focused on that.</p>

<p>“We’ve got India in the World Test Championship final first, which I think a lot of people forgot,” Cummins said to reporters before the WTC Final at the Oval in response to a question about Ashes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Cummins also spoke about how the inaugural WTCH Final back in 2021 hit them when they actually saw New Zealand and India play the game and that every series now gave them something big to play for.</p>

<p>Former India star and commentator Mohammad Kaif has backed Ishan Kishan to make his debut for the Indian team as they prepare for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia. The WTC final, which will start at the iconic Oval Stadium in London on Wednesday (June 7), could see Ishan and KS Bharat battle for a place in the Playing XI. India are without Rishabh Pant and will like to replace his aggressive batting style with Ishan but Bharat’s experience could see him keep his place.</p>

<h2><strong>Kaif makes bold choice</strong></h2>

<p>“I would play Ishan Kishan over KS Bharat because you would want someone to play attacking shots at number six because the ball is old and Rishabh Pant used to play that role,” said Kaif in a conversation with Star Sports.</p>

<p>The Indian team has been missing the services of Pant since December, having suffered serious injuries in a road accident. His continued absence will be a major blow for India as he brings the attacking brand of cricket. KS Bharat has since taken over the first-choice keeper's tag and made his debut for the national side in February against Australia in Nagpur.</p>

<p>Pant is not the only piece missing in the puzzle for India as they also will be without Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul. With big names missing several players are on the radar and could feature in the WTC final on Wednesday.</p>

<p>Warner has since served a ban and made a successful return to the side and was a pivotal figure in the 2021 T20 World Cup-winning side. He also helped Australia win the Ashes in 2022-23 but has since been struggling with form in the last few months.</p>

<p>“So, from that perspective, it wasn't even like, 'Oh, let's stop and we'll come back to this.' It was nine months, it was launched in February (2022). I was extremely disappointed," Warner added.</p>

<p>With the conclusion of IPL 2023, Indian players have now shifted their focus to the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final where they will take on the No. 1 ranked Australian team in a bid to end their ten-year-long ICC-title drought. Switching from white ball to red ball won't be easy for the Indian players but spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel said that the WTC final-bound players practised with Dukes ball even during IPL 16.</p>

<p>"So even during the IPL, it was discussed that we will bowl with the red ball. We had red balls, so we were using them. You know when and how to play, how much time you have. This mental switch from white ball to red ball is obviously tough, but we have enough time," Patel told ICC.</p>

<h2><strong>'During the IPL, we ordered....'</strong></h2>

<p>Axar further added, "The difference is the Dukes ball remains shinier for longer. But during the IPL, we had ordered the ball, so were practising with it and have gotten used to it." It is to be noted that Indian players arrived in the United Kingdom in different batches for the forthcoming WTC final. The players who were out of the IPL left first and were followed by the ones whose teams bowed out in the playoffs. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammad Shami, Shubman Gill, etc. arrived in the last batch after IPL 2023 final ended in the early hours on Tuesday (May 30).</p>

Switching from white ball to red ball won't be easy for the Indian players but spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel said that the WTC final-bound players practised with Dukes ball even during IPL 16. "So even during the IPL, it was discussed that we will bowl with the red ball. We had red balls, so we were using them. You know when and how to play, how much time you have. This mental switch from white ball to red ball is obviously tough, but we have enough time," Patel told ICC. 'During the IPL, we ordered....' Axar further added, "The difference is the Dukes ball remains shinier for longer. But during the IPL, we had ordered the ball, so were practising with it and have gotten used to it." <p>"The fact that he has been around (in England) will mean that he will have also seen how the pitch has been behaving at The Oval. He might not have played at The Oval, and he might be in Sussex, not too far away from London, but he will have kept an eye on what is happening and his input will be invaluable as far as the batting unit is concerned or even as far as the captaincy is concerned," Gavaskar told Star Sports.</p>

<p>Gavaskar also spoke on Pujara’s stint as the skipper of the Sussex side where he shared the dressing room with Steve Smith. The former India captain admitted that his spell will help Rohit Sharma&nbsp;plan better strategies in the WTC final.</p>

<p>"He will have the captains here as far as the Oval pitch is concerned and don't forget he has also been captaining the team, so he definitely will have worked out quite a few strategies seeing that Steve Smith, the Australian is his teammate at the moment.</p>

<p>"I think they are going to look at their bat speed. Coming from T20 where the bat speed is very fast to Test cricket where the bat speeds got to be a lot more control, that is something they'll need to do," Gavaskar added.</p>

<p>The WTC final will take place on Wednesday, June 7 at the iconic Oval Stadium in London, with an opportunity for India to win a Grand Slam of ICC titles. As things stand, the WTC trophy remains the only piece missing from the puzzle. India won the ODI World Cup in 1983 and 2011, while they lifted the T20 World Cup in 2007 and won the Champions Trophy in 2000 and 2013.</p>

<p>The former India cricketer also backed middle-order batsman Ajinkya Rahane to come good in English conditions. Notably, Rahane was included in the WTC squad partly on the back of his spectacular form in the recently-concluded IPL for eventual winner Chennai Super Kings.</p>

<p>"He's got a lot of experience playing in England, having scored run in England. So, yes, I think he's going to be crucial down at number 5. And yes, I do believe has a point to prove, I still feel he's got plenty of cricket left in him, and this is a wonderful opportunity for him. I'm hoping he will be able to grab this opportunity and with all the experience that he has and make a place for him back in the Indian team," Gavaskar said.</p>

Jaiswal was in great form in the IPL and scored the most runs by an uncapped Indian in the season while Gaikwad won’t be available until June 5 as he will be getting married. In his 14 innings, he scored five fifties and a hundred against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to make a statement to the selectors. Jaiswal ended with a strike rate of 163.61 while he averaged 48.08. He was also instrumental for RR in the 2022 season where he scored 258 runs in 10 matches.</p>

<p>The 21-year-old is yet to make his debut for India, however, he has brilliant first-class cricket records. He has scored 1845 runs in 15 matches with an average of 80.21. He also has nine hundreds, and two fifties in the domestic circuit.</p>

As India and Australia will face off for the second WTC Final on June 7th at the Oval in London, the ICC listed out how much each of the nine teams, ranking-wise, will earn out of a total of $3.8 million.</p>

<p>This figure remains the same as that of the first cycle during 2019-2021, where Kane Williamson-led New Zealand took the first spot after beating India by eight wickets in a rain-marred game in Southampton.</p>

<p>While the winner of the two will also earn $1.6 million this time, the team coming second will earn $800,000. As per the ICC’s list, South Africa, who stood third, will pocket $450,000, whereas, England – the ranked-four team will take home $350,000.</p>

<p>“There have been many players who have contributed to the team. Some of them are not part of this squad currently, but it’s important that we recognise all the players that have contributed in this cycle,” Pujara said.</p>

<p>“It’s been a great team effort… the team management, captain, everyone has been looking forward to this moment where we qualify for the WTC finals and the guys are really excited to play at The Oval. We’ve got some good memories playing against England in UK. Overall, if I look at the last couple of years, it’s been a very good journey for the Indian Test team,” Ravi Ashwin added.</p>

<p>“The way he's timed the ball, the way he's looking at T20 from a different perspective. He's not looking at the number of runs, he's looking at the number of balls he's playing against that. What is the strike rate with those numbers of balls he's played, which is good and which augurs well,” Shastri told on the ICC Review.</p>

<p>“It just goes to show (what happens) when you go through the grind; you go back to domestic cricket. He's earned his place in that World Test Championship side,” he added.</p>

<p>As things stand, both India and Australia have the opportunity to complete a Grand Slam of Australian titles, having won the ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy. When Shane Warne passed away, it felt like we Indians lost one of our own: PM Modi recalls Aussie legend

<p>Royal Challengers Bangalore duo of Virat Kohli and Mohammed Siraj are among the first batch of Indian players who will fly to the UK for the 2023 World Test Championship Final against Australia, scheduled to take place in London on June 7.&nbsp;As per PTI, the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel, alongside seamer Shardul Thakur will also be on that flight to England, with Rahul Dravid-led coaching and support staff also part of it.</p>

<p>As reported by the Indian Express, the remaining two players from the first set of seven are seamers Umesh Yadav and Jaydev Unadkat - both of whom are recovering from respective injuries they suffered during IPL 2023. As per the report, this set of players and staff will leave during the wee hours on Tuesday.</p>

<p>Of&nbsp;the remaining members of India’s 15-man squad for the 2023 WTC Final, seven of them – all of whom are participating in the IPL playoffs, including captain Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill, Mohammad Shami, K S Bharat and Ajinkya Rahane, will join in later.</p>

<p>On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara, who is already in the UK playing in the County Championship for Sussex, will link up with the squad in London.</p>

<h2>India to not play tour game ahead of WTC final&nbsp;</h2>

<p>For those wondering, the Indian team will not be playing any tour game or a practice match ahead of the 2023 WTC final. As this is an ICC-related event and considering the County is ongoing, the ECB is not obliged to provide BCCI with a slot and a team for a practice match.</p>

<p>“Also, if we play against a select county XI, it will comprise mostly second-team or development squad players, as first-team players are not released during the championship. Playing against a weak opposition doesn’t help in quality practice,” a BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity.</p>

<p>"Generally, we think about the battles between India's spinners and Australia's batters. But will that be negated by the wicket at The Oval? Normally the wickets that I've played on at The Oval have started as really good batting wickets, and actually have offered a little bit to the spinners as the game's going on."</p>

<p>"That's what I'd like to see in this wicket - to have a really good contest on day four, day five, or maybe even day six, seeing how it's going," the Delhi Capitals (DC) coach added, who will be part of the commentary panel for the mega finale next month.</p>
