<p>Paras revealed India clearly went for horses for courses strategy, as looking at the overhead conditions and the green, bouncy track on offer, bowling first and picking an extra seamer than playing two spinners looked like the right decision.</p>

<p>"It is always a very difficult decision to drop a champion bowler like him. Looking at the conditions in the morning, we thought an additional seamer would be beneficial," Paras said after stumps on day one.</p>

<p>"It has also worked in the past for us. Seamers have done well out here for us. You can always look back and say that additional spinner would have been beneficial, but we took the call looking at the conditions," he added.</p>

<h2>Communicating with them ain't easy, but they understand overall picture&nbsp;</h2>

<p>When asked about how the coaches or the captain explain their call to bench a particular player, Paras detailed, saying,</p>

<p>"When team discussion happens, we talk about composition over a period of days. We trained here for three-four days before the game, and seeing the wicket, conversations happen with players. The players also understand that (the importance of team combination)," he added.</p>

<p>Addressing the situation in which India find themselves, with Australia being 327 for three as things stand, Paras feels the new ball will do something for India come day two as they have a chance to make a comeback in the Test.</p>

<p>"The second new ball did a bit. The morning session will be important. The wicket played better than our expectations in the last two sessions today,” Paras added.</p>

<p>The World Test Championship (WTC) Final got underway between India and England at the Oval in London on Wednesday and India, not to much surprise, decided to go with Ravindra Jadeja as the only spinner in the squad.</p>

<p>Skipper Rohit Sharma, who decided to field first after winning the toss, was asked by Nasser Hussain how difficult it was to drop Ravi Ashwin from the squad. Notably, Ashwin is currently the number one bowler in the ICC Test ranking, with 869 points to his name.</p>

<p>“It's always tough. He's been a match-winner for us, over the course of many years. So, leaving him out was tough. But you got to do the things that are needed for the team. So, eventually we came up with that decision,” Rohit replied to Hussain's question.</p>

Today it's looking the way it is. Tomorrow it might be slightly different, who knows. So the message to the boys has been very clear, all 15 must be ready to play at any point in time. And we'll see the conditions tomorrow as well and make that decision as to who gets into that playing 11," Rohit said on Tuesday.</p>

<p>"[He brings] experience over here, first of all, and knows these conditions really well. Hopefully, he knows the opposition, so if he can give us one little bit of insight into playing in England that we haven't thought about then it's worth it,” Cummins said.</p>

<p>"I think Andrew [McDonald] has worked with him quite a bit, and you've seen us over the years bring in different people at different times. We're pretty lucky to have someone as experienced as Andy."</p>

<p>Flower’s inclusion in the Australian team will come as a huge boost for them, having helped England win the Ashes in 2009, 2010-11, and 2013. The 2010-11 Ashes win was the last time the holy grail was won away from home. Flower was the man at the helm for the English side on that occasion. He parted ways with England after the 2013-14 Ashes when England lost 0-5.</p>

<p>It is also interesting to know that Flower is still contracted to English Cricket Board, having led Trent Rockets to the Hundred title in 2022. Unlike other domestic leagues in the world, the franchises in England are governed by the central board and have therefore kept Flower in their payroll.</p>

While Ishan is a like-for-like replacement for Pant, with both the southpaws being aggressive with the bat, Bharat is more of a steady batter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It will be interesting to see if Rohit &amp; Co. opt for Ishan and drop Bharat for the mega finale. Further, Hayden also said that India should play both R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the playing XI.</p>

<p>In this regard, he said, "What works for India is two spinners. It doesn't work for Australia, apart from the outrageous turners that we saw in India during the Border-Gavaskar trophy."</p>

<p>''I know the Australian combination will always want to have three quicks. Obviously, Nathan Lyon is our spinner and Cameron Green can play as an all-rounder. If the 34-year-old Kohli gets going in the mega clash and scores a ton, it will be his 29th in the longest format. Thus, he will equal Sir Don Bradman's tally.</p>

<p>Lastly, Kohli will also take over Virender Sehwag's run-tally in whites (8,586) with 170, or more, runs in the WTC final. At present, he has&nbsp;8416 runs in 108 Tests.&nbsp;Thus, he has a chance to become India's&nbsp;fifth-highest run-getter in Tests.&nbsp;Tendulkar (15,921), Dravid (13,288), Sunil Gavaskar (10,122), and Laxman (8,781) lead the list followed by Sehwag.</p>

He has a very low back lift, he just picks up the ball and the bat then goes behind his back in the follow-through to give the power."</p>

He added, "It's the same with Pakistan cricket as well. There is one sport and it is cricket, so it's a mindset thing."</p>

<p>Hayden advised the Indian team to focus on the process and not think&nbsp;about the outcomes. "Being cautious about looking for the scoreboard and looking for the titles and just playing and being a part of the process, something when you look at franchise setups, Gujarat Titans have done really well this year and CSK have done very well. Mumbai Indians as well believe in a certain process. So, that would be my advice to Indian cricket to forget the outcomes, but buy into the process,"&nbsp;Hayden added.</p>

<p>Facing the daunting Aussies, who have a fabulous record in ICC finals,&nbsp;the No. 1 ranked India won't have it easy. Australia's bowling attack -- especially their pace trio of skipper Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, etc. -- will be a stiff challenge for India. Rohit &amp; Co. also have a good bowling attack but they will miss the services of Jasprit Bumrah. A lot of senior players were missing on that trip and that was certainly the best we played outside India. <h2>Smith aware of Shami, Siraj threat</h2>

<p>With the Indian camp keeping the cards close to their chest about the final XI against Australia, Smith remains aware of two-seamers who will play – Shami and Siraj. Considering the use of Duke Ball during the final and how good form both these pacers are in, they will be some threat to the daunting Aussie line-up.</p>

<p>"I think they've got a good mix obviously of quality seam bowlers. Shami and Siraj, probably their two main guys who have really good skills, and I think the Duke ball suits them nicely. <p>"Not at all; we don't feel any pressure in terms of trying to win an ICC trophy. Of course, it would be nice to do it. Nice to be able to win an ICC tournament," Dravid said during the presser ahead of the WTC Final.</p>

<p>"But also, in the context of things, you look at this, and you see this is the culmination of 2 years of work, the culmination of a lot of success that gets you here. There are a lot of positives to take from that, see where you stand in the table, winning series in Australia, drawing series here. Being very competitive, this team has played in the world over in the last 5-6 years. Those are things that will never change, just because, you don't have an ICC trophy. That's really the bigger picture," the head coach added.</p>

<p>"But, of course, it would be nice to be able to lift... any game of cricket, you want to win it. This happens to be the WTC final, and it would be nice to get on the right side of the result," Rahul said.</p>

<p>Speaking during an ICC event – ‘Afternoon with Test Legends’, Rohit said to be successful in England maintaining concentration for longer durations is the key. He added that if a batter is ready to grind out in the middle, chances of lasting longer at the crease increase.</p>

<p>"In England, in general, it's pretty challenging conditions for batters. As long as you are prepared to have a good grind, you can have success," Rohit said ahead of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia, starting June 7th at the Oval in London.</p>

<p>"I am not going to try and emulate them (successful players) but it would be a bit nice to know their pattern of scoring. What I have found out at Oval is that the square boundaries are pretty quick," Rohit added.</p>

<h2>Time to cross the line</h2>

<p>Having come close on a few occasions across formats in the past decade, India failed to cross the line and win an ICC trophy. With them in stupendous form lately, India has a good chance to put everything behind them and chase the glory. Addressing the same, the Indian captain said,</p>

<p>"It keeps challenging you. You want to be in these situations. You look forward, and as a person, it brings the best out of you. In the last 3-4 years in Test cricket, we have had good success. Now it is about crossing that final hurdle and giving that confidence to youngsters so that they can play in the way they want to play," Rohit concluded.</p>

<p>Gearing up for his maiden ICC title clash, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is keen on stamping authority against India in World Test Championship (WTC) Final&nbsp;starting June 7th at the Oval in London. <p>Speaking on the same lines, Green told cricket.com.au, "The more you get exposed to it, the easier it gets. That's what I'm trying to take into it this time making the change. I kind of know what worked last time and what didn't, so I'm just trying to learn how to adjust quicker and better."</p>

<p>Sharing his views on how he wants to approach this final, given his style of play, Green admitted not being defensive can work in his favour – taking a leaf out of England’s newest "Bazball"&nbsp;approach.</p>

<p>"The way that England have been playing their cricket has been quite aggressive, so maybe you don't have to change too much. Probably starting (my innings) last year, I probably looked to defend a bit too much instead of just looking to score. Then you can defend after when you see a good ball, just making good decisions out there.<br />
"So this time round it will be looking to score, and then if it's a good ball, defend," Green added.</p>

<h2>Teammates talk about ‘new Green’</h2>

<p>Teammates Usman Khawaja and Nathan Lyon, two vital players in the Test setup, admitted watching Green "coming out of his shell"&nbsp;and grow as a cricketer. Lyon opined, following a stellar IPL 2023, Green emerged as a different cricketer, and his presence in the dressing room changed for good.</p>

<p>Lyon said, by rubbing shoulders with some of the greats at his IPL franchise, someone like Rohit Sharma, Green would benefit himself going forward.</p>

<p>"His (Green) presence around the team has definitely changed after being a part of that IPL and after scoring that hundred in Ahmedabad,” Lyon said. "He's growing in confidence and being himself more, coming out of his shell a little bit more around the team.</p>

<p>"I think that just comes from being able to hang in there and play the IPL and be around the likes of (Mumbai and India Test captain) Rohit Sharma and these guys to learn off them," the veteran spinner added.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Australia are&nbsp;up and roaring ahead of the&nbsp;extended winter in the UK, with the WTC Final and then the Ashes that begins June 16th in Edgbaston.</p>

<p>Since the Australian team has had their trouble against the turning ball, especially against spinners from India, Monty feels this move could help India sit in the driver's seat throughout the Test.</p>

<p>Speaking to the PTI ahead of the one-off game, which begins on June 7th in London, Monty said, "It is one pitch in England you tend to play two spinners. If the ball turns, there is bounce as well for the spinners. In my view, the wicket will be flat. In these conditions, it will suit India if they play two spinners. We have already seen Australia struggling against spinners, especially from India."</p>

<p>England’s one of most premier modern-day spinners, Monty Panesar, added going by the recent results at the venue in the T20 Blast, there was some spin on offer, and since ICC will want the match to go ahead till the fourth day, at least, chances of having a green pitch instead of a dry one is unlikely to happen.</p>

<p>"The weather has been hot, and we are seeing the ball turning even in some T20 Blast games in London. I also don't see them keeping grass because they would want the match to last at least four days," Panesar added.</p>

<h2>Considering conditions at Oval, Umesh might play ahead of Thakur</h2>

<p>Not only spin, history suggests the ball tends to reverse a bit at the Oval. On that note, Panesar expects Rohit to play seamer Umesh Yadav ahead of the bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur. Elaborating on this, Panesar said with Umesh offering an express speed of above 140 kmph and considering the old ball does talk, he should be the first choice other than Mohammed Siraj and Shami.</p>

<p>"It will also be interesting to see who the seamers will be as they have a lot of options there as well. India are the stronger side in my opinion on all fronts. As they will get extra batting options with Ashwin and Jadeja, I would go with Umesh as the third pacer," Monty said.</p>

<p>“He is the guy Rohit can go to and say 'I want you to bowl five overs at 140 plus and rough up the Australian batters'. You will need that extra pace.</p>

<p>"The ball does reverse at The Oval, and we have seen how good the Indian bowlers are when it comes to reverse swing. They can get the ball to move more than the Australian pacers,” he added.</p>

<p>"So, yeah, we try and take a break when we can. I've always said that we have got six Test matches in the next two months, I'd much prefer to be slightly underdone than overdone. That's from a bowler's point of view. I always feel like it doesn't take too much to kind of get ready. And then I want to make sure I'm fresh physically for the matches," added Cummins.</p>

<p>While some Aussie players, including Cummins, had a break before the WTC Final, Indians, on the other hand, are coming from the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), except middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara who played some county cricket in England for preparation.</p>

<p>The Aussie skipper also said that his team is refreshed and ready to face India after a three-day training camp in Beckenham where Cummins spoke at the event.</p>

<p>"We have had some really good training at Beckenham the last week," said the fast bowler. "Obviously back home, we did a lot of training as well. So everyone's come in, we've trained really hard, everyone's rejuvenated, refreshed and pretty keen."</p>

<p>The WTC Final starts from June 7 at the Oval cricket ground in London where both the teams will face off each other in the first ICC Final since the 2003 ODI World Cup Final in South Africa.</p>

<p>Whichever team wins the trophy will be the first one to have all the ICC trophies to their name. India are in their second consecutive final of the two editions played so far while Australia is in their first WTC final.</p>

<p>The match also saw a plethora of umpiring blunders by Steve Bucknor and Mike Benson most of which favoured the home side. Former India batsman VVS Laxman defined the umpiring in Sydney as 'incompetent' later in his biography.</p>

<p>What followed was unbelievable. Australian couldn't fathom what was happening nor did us mortal fans. Kohli scored 141 and India needed just 64 runs in about eight overs. India got all-out for 315 but Indians knew the day isn't far when they'll win a series down under.</p>

<p>That four-match series, however, ended in India losing 0-2 — the last time it happened.</p>

Umpires intervened. Smith had to walk back.</p>

<p>Later on, BCCI filed the complaint with the ICC but withdrew it. When asked about the moment, Smith admitted to having 'brainfade.'</p>

<p>"Josh was very, very close to being given the green light, but we are cognisant that our upcoming schedule [the WTC final quickly followed by five Ashes Tests] means this is not a one-off Test match of us,” Bailey said.</p>

<p>"This will give Josh an ideal preparation leading into Edgbaston. With six Test matches in a little over seven weeks, we will need all of our fast bowling assets," the chief selector added.</p>

<p>Speaking of Neser, the right-arm all-rounder played for Glamorgan in the County Championship this season, and considering the uncertainty surrounding Hazlewood earlier, Neser and Sean Abbott left their clubs and began training for Australia as backups in Beckenham.</p>

<p>"Michael's county form has been strong, and knowing that he was going to be close by allowed for him to keep playing and for us to be able to call on him," Bailey said. "He is a great strength to have as part of the fast-bowling group."</p>

<h2>Injury-hit Josh set to miss another milestone Test</h2>

<p>Josh Hazlewood has had a tough time dealing with injuries lately, having played in just four of the past 19 Tests. <p>“He is a young player who has incredible skill and determination to be one of the best players in the world. It would be unfair to compare him to Sachin and Virat so early in his journey,” Kirsten spoke in an exclusive chat with Cricbuzz.</p>

<p>The former World Cup-winning coach also praised Gill for his style of play and believes he has all the tools to be successful in all formats of the game. He added that he has the adaptability to play in the T20 and Test format.</p>
