<p>“But yes, we know that we need to score runs on the board to give our bowlers a chance. That's what we used to do,” added the coach.</p>

WTC Final: Sachin Tendulkar questions dropping Ravi Ashwin from playing XI after India's loss

<p>Australia skipper Pat Cummins isn't willing to pick out which ICC trophy he likes the most - the 2015 ODI WC, T20 WC in 2021 or the WTC Final 2023. "It's probably like trying to pick your favourite kid," he said in response to the question after winning the WTC Final against India.</p>

<p>The skipper, who became one of the four players in history to win all the ICC trophies along with Steve Smith, David Warner and Mitchell Starc, was sure that Test cricket is the pinnacle for them.</p>

<p>"They all feel a little bit different," said Cummins about the trophies. "We were just talking about that. No doubt Test matches for us are our favourite format. It's the biggest challenge I think in every way. This competition pitting up against everyone in the world, it has got to be right up there," he added.</p>

<p>"I think that's one of the most satisfying bits," he said. "Obviously the win here, but to make it to the final, you have got to win everywhere in the world. I think this cycle was 20 Test matches. I think we might have only lost three or four out of the 20. The boys were fantastic the whole way through. We adapted well and that's what makes it so satisfying," Cummins added further.&nbsp;</p>

<p>With Australia set to face England in five days' time for the iconic Ashes Test series, Cummins said they are going to savour this victory for a bit before they move on the next series.</p>

<p>"It's been an amazing two years," he said. "We've had this final in the diary for a while. It's been something that we had been building up for, so it is something we are going to savour. I know we have got a big series but we can worry about that in a couple of days' time.</p>

<p>"You only get a few of these moments in your career where you can sit back, acknowledge a pretty special achievement and that's one of these times," said Cummins.<br />

<p>Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar blasted Rohit Sharma for being a bit eager for runs and getting out in the process on day 4 of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia.</p>

<p>Rohit was batting fluently before getting out LBW while attempting a sweep shot off Nathan Lyon. He scored 43 runs and had added 41 runs with Shubman Gill for the 1st wicket and 51 runs with Cheteshwar Pujara for the second wicket.</p>

<p>“Rohit Sharma didn't put a foot wrong. T20 and Test match have absolutely no connection. He struggled in IPL, but come Test cricket, he didn't put a foot wrong unless that happened. It happened when a spinner came on after the three quality seamers went out. You suddenly felt there's a chance to get some runs and a T20 shot came out of the psyche of Rohit Sharma,” Manjrekar said in a conversation with ESPNCricinfo.</p>

<p>The former India batsman also compared Rohit to Virat Kohli and said that Kohli wouldn't have gone for a shot like that.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"With some batters, you can say there's a genuine problem of lapse of concentration. This is a guy who got two hundreds in his first two innings of his Test career. He knows how to get the big scores. Even against England in the four Tests, he got 100 and a a 80, and looked a million-dollar right through the series.</p>

<p>“This wasn't him losing the concentration. There's some difference in Rohit Sharma playing in that fashion, against somebody like Virat Kohli in his prime. The catch, which Green thought was clean, was adjudged the same by TV umpire as well but Gill and skipper Rohit Sharma along with a lot of former players had a different opinion about it.</p>

The Aussie allrounder had a troubled stay at the crease for his 25 runs before being outfoxed by Jadeja in leaving ball which landed onto stumps.</p>

<p>On the last ball of the 63rd over of Australia's second innings, Green decided to leave the ball which had landed outside leg but spun and bounced sharply to hit his pad before being ricocheted on the stumps, shattering the bails. WTC Final: 'Good luck for the batsmen...:' Shardul Thakur on Oval pitch after scoring 50 on day 3

<p>Former India coach Ravi Shastri is not pleased at all with the performance of Indian batsmen in the first innings of the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against Australia where they conceded a 173-run lead.</p>

<p>It was India's top order specifically with which Shastri was miffed and said that the players need to set their priorities right and forget WTC Final if their preference lies with franchise cricket.</p>

<h2><strong>Rahane is not a crisis batter</strong></h2>

<p>“I don't think Ajinkya Rahane can be called a batter in crisis. There's another innings to go, the crisis has to be averted in a way that you either draw or win the game. But this innings, solely on the kind of odds... he's done brilliant,” Manjrekar told ESPNCricinfo.</p>

<p>“To call him the player in crisis... he has played an odd innings, but the old Ajinkya Rahane would follow it with low scores. Who knows, the new Ajinkya Rahane could be the Test batter 2.0. Maybe, he can carry it in the second innings as well,” added Manjrekar.</p>

<p>Rahane had a pleasant outing in India’s first innings when they were struggling at 71/4 having lost Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Rohit Sharma. In the meantime, he also completed 5000 runs in the Test format and looked in good nick. He bought up his fifty with a six on Day 2, having cleared his ambitions against the Aussie attack.</p>

<p>Rahane will now have a big role to play as India are expected to chase a big total in the final two days of the Test match. If he does end up winning the match for India, they will become the first nation to win all the International Cricket Council (ICC) trophies.</p>

The former India vice-captain is a lone warrior for the Indian team in the contest after Ravindra Jadeja (48) despite the Aussies dominating with both bat and ball. India lost the skipper on 15 on the final ball of the sixth over. <p>As a result, they failed to put any pressure on the pair of Travis Head and Steve Smith. Smith, who remained unbeaten on 95 after stumps on day one, needed two deliveries off his pads to churn that for boundaries and bring up his 31st Test hundred. Head, who resumed his innings in his 140s, scored a few fours off odd bouncers to further derail India’s quest to gain momentum.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Although he got out of a leg-side bouncer from Siraj, Ponting feels, with the Indian bowlers choosing to bowl that line and length, it hampered their chance of making the most out of the first hour in these seaming conditions.</p>

<p>"I think where they let themselves down was in the first hour yesterday and bowling too short," Ponting told the ICC. "With the wicket conditions, the overhead conditions they had and the brand-new Dukes ball, they had to bowl fuller and get the ball driven back down the ground.</p>

<p>"They needed to have Australia four or five down at lunch, and they only had them two down which was a pretty good result (for Australia)," Punter added.</p>

<h2>Rahul-Rohit plan failed</h2>

<p>Being the captain himself, Ponting knows what happens behind the camera as he elaborated on the same. He said ahead of Wednesday’s start, he saw Rahul Dravid - India’s head coach having a deep discussion with Rohit, and though their plan worked in the first hour on day one, it all fell apart as Australia’s innings progressed.</p>

<p>Ponting added if India wanted to go ahead with the four-pacer attack, pitching up to the batters in these conditions should have been priority regardless of the match situation.</p>

<p>"I know the captain wears the brunt of it (criticism), but I know it’s not only his decision," Ponting noted. "I saw Rahul Dravid and him out (Rohit) in the middle yesterday morning and they had a long discussion about what they wanted to do at the toss."</p>

<p>"If they wanted to bowl first, I think they had to play the four seamers. So far you would say it hasn’t paid off — but there is a long way to go and we probably shouldn’t be too quick to judge," Ponting added.</p>

<p>As things stand, Australia scored 469 in the first innings, and India are reeling at 151 for five, 318 runs behind.<br />

David Warner (43) and Marnus Labuschagne (26) then took control of the innings as they put together a 69-run stand for the second wicket. However, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj then struck in quick succession to put the Aussies back on the back foot.</p>

<p>At 76/3 in the first session, the Indians were at the top of their game as the decision to bowl looked wise. However, it was the Steve Smith and Travis Head show that would frustrate the Indian bowlers. On a challenging wicket that had bounce, both Smith and Head held their nerves until it became old. They took the attack against Indian pacers while giving no chance to Ravindra Jadeja to settle in the conditions.</p>

<p>On the fourth ball of the 65th over, Head bought his sixth Test hundred and looked in good touch, and need just 106 deliveries. In the meantime, Smith also continued his exploits but was scoring at a slower rate than Head. He brought his 38th Test fifty in the 62nd over.</p>

<p>In the same over, Head was also checked for concussion as a Mohammed Siraj delivery hit Travis on the head.</p>

Not to forget, they need to give respect to the new ball to avoid facing the old fates of getting out early in a crunch situation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>India's top four need to weather the storm with two of them, Shubman Gill and Chesteshwar Pujara, in stellar form. Besides, the onus will again fall on veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who need to put on runs to keep India stay alive in the match.</p>

<p>With India batting deep this time in the presence of Thakur at number eight, taking some risks after settling down will not be a bad idea either.</p>

<p>"The Oval is perhaps the best pitch to bat on in England, and it will be better to bat on as the game goes on. I don't think India will have any difficulties batting on this wicket.
