Ponting, however, feels that even though Kohli has time on his side, it won't be easy for him to slam 30 more centuries at the highest level. "I still think he has got a number of years ahead of him, but I guess to still be 30 international hundreds behind, that’s a lot. That’s five or six Test hundreds a year maybe for the next three or four years. If you throw a couple of one-day ones, maybe the odd T20 ones on top of it," he opined.&nbsp;

"Look, I’ll never say never with Virat because you know once he gets on a bit of a roll, you know how hungry he is and how keen for success he is. I’ll never say never that’s for sure," Punter concluded.

"India, I thought. I mean Kohli got a hundred in the last game although he was looking good throughout. But India also had the problem that their top-three weren't in form at the start of the tournament, but found form as the tournament progressed. So those three didn't hit the ground running which meant that they lost those games, and all were close matches. And they would look at and think that now with players like Bumrah coming in and working towards that T20 World Cup they are in a better space but I reckon that because a few of their batters weren't in top gear, that was a huge issue," Bazid told in an exclusive interaction with Hindustan Times.

Rahul managed only one half-century, in the inconsequential tie versus Afghanistan (scoring 62) whereas Hitman was also slow to get going. Kohli looked in good touch throughout -- barring the Sri Lanka encounter -- but his strike rate increased considerably in India's last game, versus the Afghans, where he slammed a breathtaking 61-ball 122 not out.

Further, Bazid lauded India's aggressive approach with the bat in the shortest format, ahead of next month's T20 World Cup in Australia. In this regard, he pointed out, "That's the way forward. I don't think there is merit in playing those 20 overs and being at 150 for 5. It's just that you have wasted your resources. India have done very well playing this brand of cricket and it has actually helped them become a more dangerous and evolved T20 side. Every team has attacking players in their line-up, look at Sri Lanka, in that final they had lost 5 wickets but they kept on attacking. Their thought process was if you bat out the overs, and get to 130, that is equivalent to getting bowled out for 110. So you might as well get to 170 or 180, rather than settle for 130. And things worked in their favour."

Australia's T20I skipper Aaron Finch has hailed Virat Kohli as one of the greatest batters of all time ahead of the T20I series against India. Australia will lock horns with hosts India in a three-match T20I series starting on Tuesday (September 20).&nbsp;

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the first T20I between the two top teams in Mohali, Aussie skipper Finch said it will take a brave person to write off someone like Kohli, who has been on top of his game for a number of years now. One of the best batters in the world at present, Kohli had shut down his critics with his performances at the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022.

The Indian batter was under fire heading into the Asia Cup having faced massive criticism over his slump in form. He had gone without scoring an international century for nearly three years but managed to bounce back in style. Kohli rediscovered his form and went on to bring an end to his long-standing wait for his 71st international century.

Kohli ended the tournament as the highest run-getter for India with 276 runs from five matches at a brilliant average of 92. He also joined Ricky Ponting at the second spot on the list of batters with the highest number of centuries in international cricket and now lies behind only the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 100 international tons.

Finch said scoring 71 international centuries is a 'ridiculous' achievement and it's never a good idea to write off someone like Kohli, who has the pedigree for big knocks.

''It would be a very brave man to write Virat Kohli off. At any stage, he has shown for 15 years now that he is one of the greatest players of all time,'' Finch told reporters ahead of the first T20I against India.

''Particularly in T20 cricket, he's someone who has developed and grown his game over such a long period that you always plan and prepare the best when you're coming up against him. He is super and has 71 international centuries. That's just ridiculous,'' added the Australian skipper.

"Exactly the same fluency as what we saw in the Asia Cup. The only issue is, that when we saw him play that innings against Afghanistan it was at the top of the order. And in a T20 format, there is a huge difference in playing in the first six and after the first six. And when you go into the middle without having any scoreboard pressure, suddenly when you`re one wicket down or probably will have to continue the momentum so that`s a different ball game, but runs under your belt or no runs under your belt, there is no better feeling than scoring a hundred," Gambhir told Star Sports. 
 
"And Virat goes into the series with a lot of confidence and I hope he continues his form because he is going to be very useful if India has to play well in the world cup because it`s a very important position," he added. 
 
On the other hand, former Australia opener Hayden said that Kohli is a great player of fast bowling and also shut down any discussion on the Indian batter`s position in the team. 
 
"Virat, you know, he`s such a great player of fast bowling, and Australia`s full of fast bowling in their cricket team and they are relying heavily on Adam Zampa through the middle stages now. Pointers to take pace off the ball, Mitch Marsh as well, he`ll handle him nicely," the 50-year-old said. 
 
"And this great debate around Virat batting up, GG (Gambhir) and I have already had this over the last couple of days, there`s no way that he has to open the batting, he has to bat at number 3, simple as that. And again, it`s another one of those things that you don`t want to let the door open the discussion on this. 
 
"You don`t want to have a doubt, you don`t want to have K.L Rahul in the masterful form that he`s been in of late and Rohit Sharma who is captain of the team thinking `I`ve got to kind of watch my spot here that you know I`m an opening batsman and my job is to play with freedom` and unfortunately, when you start having these debates and you start thinking `oh maybe he, for his game, it should be him opening`, I`m sure he wouldn`t want to entertain that and put pressure. 
 
"The one thing that you want to alleviate in the World Cup is the pressure. Just let the batting order rely on its own form and Virat Kohli can handle the situation. He`s a world-class player, he can bat at three and he should bat at three in my opinion," he added.

On Monday (September 12), BCCI announced India's 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 edition. The forthcoming ICC event will be held in Australia from October-November and Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue will aim to end their ICC-title drought, since 2013. For a long time, India have been struggling with their team combination and, hence, they will like to finalise their playing XI at the earliest in their remaining T20I matches.

Due to the team combination struggles, India have paid the price in ICC events. In the last edition of the T20 WC, held in the UAE in late 2021, the Virat Kohlil-led Indian side failed to get going in the Super 12 round and bowed out of the semi-finals race. In the recently-held Asia Cup 2022 edition, Rohit &amp; Co. once again dominated the group stage but fell flat in their opening two games in Super Four round to not qualify for the final. Thus, Rohit-Rahul Dravid-led team management will have to play a settled XI&nbsp;

"My playing 11, wherever you play, whether you’re playing in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney or Perth, my playing 11 is always fixed. India will host Australia in three T20Is followed by hosting three ODIs and T20Is each versus South Africa before boarding the flight to Australia. They will like to play a settled XI from now on to not falter in the main draw of the T20 WC Down Under. They are placed in Pool B along with Pakistan, South Africa and Bangladesh whereas two more teams will join from the qualifiers.

He further analysed India's World Cup squad and said, "India could have kept Umran Malik as one of the standby players as the Indian batters would have got to practice against a bowler who can consistently bowl quick."

Former India cricketer Amit Mishra aimed a brutal dig at Shahid Afridi after the ex-Pakistan all-rounder shared some retirement advice for Indian superstar Virat Kohli. Talking about Kohli's career, Afridi said the Indian batting maestro should retire on a high whenever he decides to walk away from the game, and that it should not come to a stage where he is&nbsp;getting dropped from the team.

Reacting to Afridi's comments about Kohli, Mishra came up with a sharp response on Twitter. The former India spinner took a dig at Afridi, who&nbsp;retired five times in his international career only to return back four times. Urging him to spare Kohli, Mishra said some people retire only once.

"Dear Afridi, some people retire only once so please spare Virat Kohli from all this," he wrote in a tweet.

Speaking during a TV show in Pakistan, Afridi came up with some retirement advice for Kohli, who has a number of years left at the top level and has been going strong across all formats for India. Afridi, who backtracked from his retirement four times, said Kohli should look at quitting the game while he is still at his peak and not wait to be dropped from the team.

"The way Virat has played, the start that he had to his career, he had overcome struggles and work hard before he made a name for himself. He is a champion and I believe there comes a stage when you are headed towards retirement. At such a stage, the aim should be to go out on a high," Afridi said on Pakistan's Samaa TV.

"It shouldn't reach a stage where you are dropped from the team. Instead, retirement should be announced when you are at your peak. It seldom happens though. Very few players, especially cricketers from the Asian region make that decision, but I feel when Virat does it, he will do in a good way and probably end his career in style much like the way he began his career," he added.

Kohli was under massive pressure to deliver and bounce back to form amid his lean patch ahead of the recently-concluded Asia Cup 2022. However, the former Indian skipper rediscovered his form and looked in great touch throughout the tournament as he notched up back-to-back fifties before smashing his much-awaited 71st international century.
