US Vice President JD Vance has revealed his diet plan on Thursday, indicating that he has been following sauerkraut and high-protein foods to lose weight. His remark about his diet came after Robert F Kennedy Jr, the US health secretary, asked him for advice on giving up sugar. “I’m a devout Christian,” Vance said during a White House press briefing, and explained that he tries to practise “some kind of self-denial” during the season. Describing how he came across the diet, Vance stated that on “Fat Tuesday”, apparently referring to Shrove Tuesday, he mentioned to his wife that he was thinking of giving up sugar and social media. He said he then reached out to Kennedy for advice, and the health secretary introduced him to the "intense" diet plan. Vance summed it up by saying: “I eat a lot of high-protein stuff, and I eat a lot of sauerkraut,” Vance told the press. “And let’s just say that if that was Fat Tuesday, Fat Wednesday never came.” He concluded: “So my advice to you is that if you want to lose weight, call Bobby Kennedy, and if you want to enjoy what you eat, do not call Bobby Kennedy.” Also read: 'Nobody will do it once I’m gone': Trump admits to putting his name on everything
What is Vance's sauerkraut diet?
Known as the "sauerkraut diet" or the "living diet," the plan centres on fermented foods like sauerkraut and kimchi to support gut health, paired with grass-fed meat. The White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt on Thursday (January 8) addressed the shooting incident involving ICE officers in Minnesota. Leavitt claimed that federal law enforcement is increasingly being targeted and said the Trump administration would intensify its efforts to remove what she described as ‘criminal illegal alien criminals, rapists, and killers’. She stressed that federal agents would maintain a strong presence in Minnesota despite mounting criticism. He also announced the creation of a new assistant attorney general position with nationwide authority, starting with investigations in Minnesota. Reading from a CNN headline, he insisted the incident should be labeled an “attack” rather than an accident. “This was an attack on federal law enforcement, on law and order, and on the American people,” Vance said, accusing news outlets of misrepresenting the facts and endangering officers through their reporting. He also dismissed criticism from Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who has questioned the federal account of events. Calling Walz “a joke,” Vance accused the governor of enabling fraud and said he had no interest in the governor’s objections. Throughout the briefing, Vance repeatedly linked the shooting to what he described as a broader campaign by Democrats and activists to undermine ICE. He alleged, without providing evidence, that a network of left-wing groups aims to harass, dox, and physically obstruct federal agents. Addressing the death of Renee Good, Vance said her killing was tragic but argued it was ultimately the result of “far-left radicalisation.” He accused her of interfering with a lawful enforcement action and claimed she drove her vehicle toward an ICE officer, forcing the agent to act in self-defense. While acknowledging that “nobody wants an American citizen to be killed,” Vance insisted the blame lies with what he called reckless rhetoric from the left. He rejected suggestions that aggressive ICE raids might have contributed to tensions, instead arguing that Democrats have “rallied a mob” against law enforcement.
ICE agent has ‘absolute immunity’: JD Vance
Vance also defended the decision to sideline Minnesota state authorities from the investigation, saying that the ICE agent involved has “absolute immunity” as a federal officer. He argued it would be unprecedented for local officials to prosecute a federal agent acting in the line of duty. Much of Vance’s frustration centered on press coverage. He accused journalists of portraying the ICE agent as a “federal assassin” and described the reporting as one of the most egregious media failures he had ever seen. Although he conceded that details of the incident remain disputed, Vance stood by his broader claim that immigration enforcement has been unfairly vilified. And yes, those beliefs have many consequences, one of which is that we want to share them with other people. That is a completely normal thing, and anyone who’s telling you otherwise has an agenda.”

US Vice President JD Vance on Friday rejected criticism that he had thrown the religion of his wife, Usha Vance, under the bus in public and defended his remarks about her Hindu faith, saying she is “not a Christian and has no plans to convert.” After being criticised severely on social media for his comments, Vance responded with a strongly worded post on X and called the backlash against his comments “disgusting” and accused his critics of “anti-Christian bigotry”. “What a disgusting comment, and it’s hardly been the only one along these lines,” Vance wrote, responding to social media users who accused him of disrespecting his wife’s religion. “First off, the question was from a person seemingly to my left, about my interfaith marriage. ‘Usha has no plans to convert…’: JD Vance clarifies after backlash over his remarks on wife’s faith

US Vice-President JD Vance found himself at the center of controversy on Thursday (October 30) following a public exchange at a Turning Point USA event. Vance’s comments about his wife’s Hindu faith and his stance on immigration sparked strong reactions after a pointed question from a woman believed to be of Indian descent. At the University of Mississippi event, the woman, wearing a bindi and shawl, challenged Vance on two key issues: immigration and religion. She first questioned Vance’s view on immigration, expressing frustration with his proposal to limit legal immigration into the US. She emphasised that immigrants like her, who had invested their youth and resources in building a life in America, were now being told they ‘don’t belong’. “You sold us a dream, and now you say we don't belong here?” she questioned. Also Read: ‘Nuclear-armed bully’: Iran blasts Trump for ordering resumption of US nuclear tests The conversation quickly shifted to religion when she asked how Vance was raising his children in a multi-religious household. Vance responded by discussing his relationship with his wife, Usha. He explained that while Usha is Hindu, he hopes she will one day embrace Christianity, as he has. “I believe in the Christian gospel, and I hope eventually my wife comes to see it the same way,” he said, acknowledging that Usha accompanies him to church most Sundays. The exchange was widely shared on social media, with many applauding the woman for her bold questioning, while others criticised Vance’s comments, especially regarding his hopes for his wife’s religious conversion. The event was part of a larger Turning Point USA initiative led by conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

JD Vance faces criticism after answering tough questions on immigration and religion, including his hope that his wife will embrace Christianity

US Vice President JD Vance has said that he hopes his Indian-origin wife, Usha, a Hindu, will convert to Christianity one day and become a Christian. Speaking at a Turning Point USA event at the University of Mississippi on Wednesday, Vance said, “Now most Sundays Usha will come with me to church. As I’ve told her and I’ve said publicly, and I’ll say now in front to 10,000 of my closest friends: Do I hope eventually that she is somehow moved by the same thing that I was moved in by church? However, he promptly added, “If she doesn’t, then God says everybody has free will, so that doesn’t cause a problem for me.” He was responding to a query from an Indian-origin woman about his Hindu wife and their “intercultural household”. Vance further said that Usha grew up in a Hindu family, “but not a particularly religious family”.

Speaking to Meghan McCain on her podcast ‘Citizen McCain’, the Second Lady said, “So what we’ve ended up doing is we send our kids to Catholic school, and we have given them each the choice, right? They can choose whether they want to be baptised Catholic and then go through the whole step-by-step process with their classes in school.”
‘JD Vance wasn’t Catholic when I met him at Yale University’
Usha also divulged that JD Vance wasn’t Catholic when she met him at Yale University.“At the time when I met JD, he wasn’t Catholic, and he converted later and when he converted, we had a lot of conversations about that because it was actually after we had our first child, maybe it was after Vivek was born too,” she said.“When you convert to Catholicism it comes with several important obligations, like to raise your child in the faith and all that. We had to have a lot of real conversations about how do you do that, I’m not Catholic, and I’m not intending to convert or anything like that,” Usha added. US Vice President JD Vance on Wednesday (Oct 22) met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his second day of a trip to Israel, where he warned of the tough task ahead in disarming Hamas and rebuilding Gaza as part of the ceasefire brokered by US President Donald Trump.“We have a very, very tough task ahead of us, which is to disarm Hamas but rebuild Gaza, to make life better for the people of Gaza, but also to ensure that Hamas is no longer a threat to our friends in Israel,” Vance said during a joint press conference with Netanyahu in Jerusalem.Netanyahu added that ideas for “the day after” had been discussed. “We’re just creating an unbelievable day after with a completely new vision of how to have the civil government, how to have the security there, who could provide that security there,” he said.“It’s not going to be easy, but I think it’s possible... we're really creating a peace plan and an infrastructure here where nothing existed even a week and a day ago,” Netanyahu added. “That’s going to require a lot of work. It requires a lot of ingenuity.”Vance added that the Gaza peace deal could also pave the way for broader alliances for Israel in the Middle East.“I think this Gaza deal is a critical piece of unlocking the Abraham Accords,” he said, referring to the series of agreements between Israel and several Arab nations in 2020. “But what it could allow is an alliance structure in the Middle East that perseveres, that endures, and that allows the good people in this region, the world, to step up and take ownership of their own backyard.”Earlier on Tuesday (Oct 21), Vance expressed “great optimism” that the truce would hold during a press conference in Kiryat Gat, a southern Israeli city where a US-led mission is monitoring the ceasefire and post-war plans for Gaza. He added that Washington would not set a deadline for Hamas to disarm, despite Israeli concerns that the Palestinian militant group is seeking to reassert itself in Gaza.

Earlier this month, Israel and Hamas engaged in a hostage-prisoner swap during which the Palestinian militant group released all living survivors in exchange for prisoners and Gazans.

US Vice-president JD Vance has played down the concerns regarding the feasibility of tense Hamas-Israel peace deal which was announced on October 10 after two years of conflict. Vance is currently in Israel where he made the comments about US President Donald Trump mediated ceasefire deal. The US VP, however, declined to put a timeline on things like hostage exchange in his comments but warned Hamas of 'very bad things' if they were to backtrack on the deal. No,” he added about the deal.
Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal
The US-mediated deal for the conflict which started on October 7, 2023, was struck on October 10, after which the exchange of hostages and bodies began. During a White House press briefing on Wednesday (October 1), US Vice President JD Vance, standing beside press secretary Karoline Leavitt, launched a sharp critique at the Democrats for the government shutdown. Leavitt opened by citing a New York Times poll indicating that two-thirds of Americans disapprove of the shutdown, which she pinned squarely on Democrats’ partisan tactics. Vance, echoing her sentiments, placed blame on Senate Democrats, particularly minority leader Chuck Schumer. He accused Schumer of being overly influenced by the left-wing faction of his party and claimed this shutdown was a result of political infighting, not genuine policy disagreements. Responding to questions about President Trump’s claim that laid-off workers during the shutdown would lean Democratic, Vance rejected the idea of politicising the issue. He reaffirmed that the priority was to keep essential government functions operational. Vance confirmed he and Trump have been actively engaging with lawmakers on both sides to push for a resolution, though he conceded that some Democrats were holding firm on their demands. He highlighted that they had convinced a handful of Democrats to shift their positions, but more votes were needed to break the impasse and reopen the government.

During the White House press briefing on Wednesday, US Vice President JD Vance warned of layoffs if the government shutdown continues and also criticised the Democrats

US government shutdown: 'We can’t let Democrats hold the government hostage, says US Vice President JD Vance

The White House has issued a stark warning to federal agencies, urging them to prepare for widespread layoffs if Congress fails to secure a funding agreement before next Wednesday (September October 1). A memo from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), released on Wednesday (September 24), instructed agencies whose funding runs out on October 1 — and which lack alternative funding sources or don’t align with the President’s priorities — to begin considering reduction-in-force notices for their employees. This directive intensifies pressure on lawmakers to reach a deal and prevent a government shutdown, as it threatens the jobs of thousands of federal workers. During previous shutdowns, federal employees were typically placed on temporary furlough until a resolution was reached. The most recent full shutdown, in 2013, saw approximately 850,000 workers furloughed, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget. Also Read: Layoffs & store closure: Starbucks is changing more than just its menu—Here’s what’s coming next for coffee giant

Commenting on the matter, US Vice-President JD Vance took it to X and wrote, “Democrats are about to shutdown the government because they demand we fund healthcare for illegal aliens.” Meanwhile, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer condemned the memo, calling it a "political intimidation tactic" that serves to scare federal workers. He argued that Trump's focus on firing government employees is less about governance and more about instilling fear. Schumer also pointed out that similar attempts at firings had been reversed in the past. The looming threat of mass layoffs only escalates the ongoing budget conflict between the White House and congressional Democrats. While Democrats have called for an extension of enhanced federal subsidies for Affordable Care Act coverage, Republicans have refused to make any concessions, leaving the fate of government funding hanging in the balance.

US Vice President JD Vance does not "give a s**t" if people call him a war criminal for using US military to kill suspected drug dealers in international waters. On Saturday (Sep 6) Brian Krassentein of the Krassentein twin brothers called out Vance on X over the United States' airstrike that killed 11 alleged "narcoterrorists" and members of Venezuela-based crime group Tren de Aragua. In reply to Vance's post calling the airstrike the "highest and best use of military", Krassentein said, "Killing the citizens of another nation who are civilians without any due process is called a war crime." To this, Vance rebuffed, "I don't give a s**t what you call it".

The US claims to have killed 11 narco-terrorists
US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (Aug 2) announced that American forces had bombed a “drug-carrying” vessel in the southern Caribbean, after it departed from Venezuela, killing eleven on board. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed that the ship was run by a "designated narco-terrorist organisation" - the Tren de Aragua gang. This marked a major escalation of tensions between the US and Venezuela after America stationed three warships off the Venezuelan coast last month. The US also increased the bounty on Venezuelan leader Nicholas Maduro to a whopping $50 million - more than what it offered for Osama Bin Laden. Meanwhile, Maduro has slammed the American attempts at alleged 'regime change' in Venezuela and said that he was ready to “declare a republic in arms” if attacked by US forces.
Vance gets called out by netizens
Replying to Vance's 'don't give a s**t' statement, Krassentein noted that, "Killing 11 people in this way could be classified as an extrajudicial killing under international human rights law, potentially exposing U.S. officials to responsibility." "Good luck in 2029. Any idea what the penalty for such a crime would be?," he added, asking "Imagine if Venezuela decided to bomb a boat driving from Maryland to New York City, which had 11 Americans and a bunch of drugs in it. JD Vance labelled 'ignoramus' for saying THIS embarrassing thing about WWII while defending Trump

US Vice President JD Vance has said Russia will be part of future talks on Ukraine’s security guarantees once the war ends. Speaking to NBC’s Meet the Press, he insisted that negotiations are making progress following President Donald Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin earlier this month. “We believe we’ve already seen some significant concessions from both sides, just in the last few weeks,” Vance said. Also read: ‘For today’s war and tomorrow’s security’: Ukraine’s new Flamingo missile is the gift that will keep on givingThe interview came after a Russian missile hit an electronics factory in western Ukraine owned by a US company. Several workers were injured. Asked if he was “enraged” by the strike, Vance replied, “I don’t like it. But this is a war, and this is why we want to stop the killing. The Russians have done a lot of things that we don’t like. A lot of civilians have died. We’ve condemned that stuff from the get-go.” He then criticised former president Joe Biden, saying Trump had “done more to apply pressure and to apply economic leverage to the Russians” than Biden ever had.
Trump hopeful peace deal could be weeks away
Trump told reporters on Friday that a possible deal could take shape soon. “I think over the next two weeks, we’re going to find out which way it’s going to go,” he said. Vance also said setbacks such as missile strikes should not be seen as permanent roadblocks. “We’re going to eventually be successful, or we’ll hit a brick wall,” he added.
Pressure without troops on the ground
Vance repeated that Trump would not send US forces to enforce any deal. “The president has been very clear. There are not going to be boots on the ground in Ukraine,” he said. Instead, he pointed to “aggressive economic leverage,” including secondary tariffs on India to restrict Russia’s oil revenues. On Russia’s part in post-war security arrangements, Vance said, “We’re not talking about security guarantees until after the war has come to a close. And, of course, the Russians are going to be a part of the conversation about bringing that war to a close.” He claimed Moscow had already accepted that Ukraine would retain territorial integrity and that it would not be able to install a “puppet regime in Kyiv.”“Have they made every concession? Of course, they haven’t. Should they have started the war? Of course they [shouldn’t have], but we’re making progress,” he said.
Trump and Vance keep talks alive
Despite frustrations on both sides, Vance insisted that Trump’s direct engagement with Putin has pushed the conflict closer to a possible settlement. “There are hills and valleys to the negotiations,” he said. “We sometimes feel like we’ve made great progress with the Russians, and sometimes … he’s been very frustrated with the Russians. We’re going to keep on doing what we have to do to bring this thing to a close,” he added.

Speaking to NBC’s Meet the Press, he insisted that negotiations are making progress following President Donald Trump’s meeting with Vladimir Putin earlier this month. “We believe we’ve already seen some significant concessions from both sides, just in the last few weeks,” Vance said. Trump hopeful peace deal could be weeks away Trump told reporters on Friday that a possible deal could take shape soon. “I think over the next two weeks, we’re going to find out which way it’s going to go,” he said. Vance also said setbacks such as missile strikes should not be seen as permanent roadblocks. “We’re going to eventually be successful, or we’ll hit a brick wall,” he added. Pressure without troops on the ground Vance repeated that Trump would not send US forces to enforce any deal. And, of course, the Russians are going to be a part of the conversation about bringing that war to a close.” He claimed Moscow had already accepted that Ukraine would retain territorial integrity and that it would not be able to install a “puppet regime in Kyiv.” “Have they made every concession? Of course, they haven’t. Should they have started the war? Of course they [shouldn’t have], but we’re making progress,” he said. Trump and Vance keep talks alive Despite frustrations on both sides, Vance insisted that Trump’s direct engagement with Putin has pushed the conflict closer to a possible settlement. “There are hills and valleys to the negotiations,” he said. “We sometimes feel like we’ve made great progress with the Russians, and sometimes … he’s been very frustrated with the Russians. We’re going to keep on doing what we have to do to bring this thing to a close,” he added.
